Using rpcclient or samedit to randomise trust account passwords
when an nt 4.0 workstation or backup domain controller is joined to a
domain, the trust account password is set to a well-known initial value.
if you are concerned about internal network security, this is not really
an acceptable risk: any captured network traffic can be decoded simply
from knowing the name of the workstation, which is contained in the
network traffic itself. the initial value

Duplex printer + samba + cups
Gentleman,
In one of my slackware servers I put samba acting as a printer server
connected to a Hewlett-Packard 2420D (D stands for duplex).
In CUPS I'm using the 'raw' driver. So I let the clients to perform the
driver stuff.
On samba, I followed the procedures described on

rpcclient man page and "--help"
There seems to be some discrepancy between rpcclient's man page and
"rpcclient --help" in regards to the servername.
It seems that the proper usage of rpcclient is
rpcclient [options] server
this is the format that is specified in "rpcclient --help." rpcclient's
man page, however specifies that the servername should come directly
after rpcclient. I.E.

First thanks for your quick reply,
I may have explained myself improperly. By default - from my understanding- on any windows domain you're allowed to anonymously connect to :
- rootDSE of the LDAP with an Anonymous bind ;
-Connect to the IPC$ with a NULL session if allowed in the registry.
But indeed you're not allowed to perform any method on the IPC$ neither to list the

(Samba 3.0.21c) rpcclient getform 'segmentation fault'
Hello,
I have an RHEL 4 Update 3 machine connected to a Active Directory.
I'm running samba 3.0.21c, compiled from an SRPM:
# rpm -q samba
samba-3.0.21c-1
Does any one knows why I'm getting a 'segmentation fault' when I try to get the forms from a printer?
# rpcclient -U <user> -W <domain> -c "setform <printer> <form>" localhost

DFS queries via rpcclient to Windows 2012 Server fails
Hello,
We previously had Win2008 R2 DCs which we have begun to replace with Win2012 servers (forest is still at 2008 level however). I was able to query DFS via rpcclient but now I find that I am unable to.
I know that SMB3 was introduced in Win2012 but I believe that it should auto-negotiate earlier versions. I did however test from v4.1.9 as well, unfortunately that still fails.

AW: rpcclient setdriver fails: WERR_INVALID_PRINTER_NAME
Hi Kurt,
You are absolutely right (as always). After restarting smb, rpcclient
setdriver works fine.
May be - in the next future release - cupsaddsmb will work.
Thank you very much.
Bernhard

About rpcclient and adddriver command
Hi all!!
We have 2 printers shared via samba with good results. Nowadays, we have
the cups postscript driver in the server for windowsNT/2000/XP and it works
fine, but i want to put the hp postscript driver as we have 2 hp printers.
I put the postscript driver via rpcclient without no problem:

cupsaddsmb / rpcclient problems ...
Hi,
I'm having a strange problem with cupsaddsmb ... it fails whenever I
try to use it while using the rpcclient command ... the "addriver"
command just fails (like below). Does anyone know what is wrong with
the command cupsaddsmb is passing to rpcclient? Adding drivers
through the windows point and print works fine ... this is samba
2.2.8a, Windows PDC. As far as I can tell,

Using rpcclient to install printer drivers
Hi all,
I have just discovered docos for rpcclient in 2.2.1a, and it appears that a
solution for installing printer drivers on my Samba server may be
in-hand. I am furiously reading man rpcclient and experimenting and with
any luck, this will bear fruit. I have to date been unable to use the NT

I was trying to figure out how to add printer drivers manually for

cupsaddsmb not working after upgrade to Lenny (rpcclient -> WERR_INVALID_PARAM)
Dear list,
I've upgraded my server from Etch to Lenny and now the printer (HP
LaserJet 6P) does not work any more through Samba.
Printing a testpage via http://server:631 works perfectly so I skip
giving details about the CUPS setup.
Also lpstat reports the printer working

I tried to rerun cupsaddsmb. The driver files are copied to the
