Samba 3.0.33 ACL rename/delete issue
Hello,
I have noticed some ALC issues with files and directories. I use samba
server 3.0.33 on CentOS 4.8 joined to Windows 2003 domain. Everything
works fine, all users are authenticated to domain controller. My aim is
to give FULL ACCESS (open/read/write/rename/delete..) to directory
"testdir" to two users, john and mark without using groups because I
have no permissions on domain

Open file error....samba 3.0.28a
When I try to open a specific file from a samba share (LSP), the application (on WINXP) says that it could not open the file.
The errors pasted below (from the smb client) show something different from anything I've seen before. Usually these kinds of problems are straight forward. In other words, usually this is a permission issue. In this case, it is not.

nsswitch groups confusion
Hello,
I just recently migrated our samba fileservers to be members of our
corporate AD domain, which seemed to work out so far. Now, I experience
problems with group membership of groups that are defined on our old ldap
server. To avoid recreating all these groups in the AD, i thought it'd be
nice to use the old groups with the new user accounts via nsswitch.

Update 4.10.2 to 4.10.4: Cant create files in subdirectorie anymore
Hi everyone,
since i upgraded from 4.10.2 to 4.10.4 i can't write into subdirectories
of a share anymore.
This worked perfectly fine before i upgraded and also works again if i
downgrade.?
I think either something is fishy with the 'filename_convert_internal'
function of ".../source3/smbd/filename.c"
or my configuration needs to be adjusted for 4.10.4. I tried several

large file pre-allocation causing Windows error
I'm trying to copy a 400 MB file from a Windows 98 host
to a FreeBSD 4.5 Samba server providing access to a FAT32
filesystem. I've got "strict allocate = no", but from
what I can see with debug set to 10, it is doing a
ftruncate which takes about 50 seconds to complete.
It appears that Windows gets impatient and generates
an error (while Samba is still waiting for the

samba problem: Multiple Heap Overflows Allow Remote Code Execution
Dear Jeremy: We use samba 2.2.12 as our samba server, and it worked perfectly before, but now there is one security problem found in samba 3.0 now, so we worry about our samba server, but for some reason we can't update to samba 3.0.25, so can you tell us whether the problem be existent in samba 2.2.12, or how can I test our samba server with some tools software?

Msdfs
Hi!
I'm trying to set up a msdfs to complete the move of our id-department
fileshares from a win2003 server to samba.
But it doesn't work and from what I can understand when reading the logs
Samba doesn't make any attemt to connect the share on the other server.
So, my question is, how can I confirm that msdfs acctually are compiled into
my samba-version?
I add a trace from the

Can't follow DFS link

I am using 3.0.22 on Ubuntu 6.06. I'm trying to setup a DFS root. Here
is the smb.conf share section:

The /var/test contains a single symlink:

On a Win2K client I can connect to \\cladms004\pdf successfully. I

Samba-3.0.x: Strange problems with roaming profiles
Hello
I've got some strange problems with Samba-3.0.4. When using roaming
profiles, keyboard layout is set to english (instead of norwegian) and a
lot of programs wont load correctly. Setting log level = 3 revealed a
lot of errors after the netlogon-script had executed (and all shares
correctly set up). I switched to log level = 10 to get a more detailed
view of these errors (show below).

Intermittent ACCESS DENIED
In a follow-up to a previous post a couple weeks back, we've implemented a
Samba 3.0.20 (Suse packages on 10.0 - recompiled to include idmap_rid)
server to replace the Windows 2000 file server in our Win2003 Active
Directory. For the most part things have been going well, but occassionally
people will get access denied errors to things that they were accessing just
fine minutes before. With

saving from word & excel
hi,
we're using a samba-server over DSL using openVPN and the speed is very
good at browsing directories and quite OK at loading/saving files except
for word & excel where it takes about 20-30 seconds to save even a small
file.
which is no wonder because the following happens in log.smbd when i click
"save" in word, it obviously checks for a bazillion tmp- and lockfiles (

Problem with large files
Hi
we have samba 3.0.14a on FreeBSD 5.4.
We tried with different kind of locking and oplocks (both enabled and

If we try to copy from a Windows XP client a file larger than 3g, we get
these error:
Cannot copy XXX. The specified network name is no longer available.
We traced this problem in the logs (log level 10) and we got this error

The exclude option of Rsync not work right.
Hello,
Can someone explain why my exclude option is not excluding filles as
instructed in my script below.
I have tried multiple methods and still have been unsuccessful in
excluding the one file "test.sql".
The methods I have tried are:
1. Removing EXTRAFLAG variable -a
2. Removing using -a
3. Option --include infront of --exclude and behind of --exclude.
4. rsync /software/testdir/

ZFS & small files
First - many, many congrats to team ZFS. Developing/writing a new Unix fs
is a very non-trivial exercise with zero tolerance for developer bugs.
I just loaded build 27a on a w1100z with a single AMD 150 CPU (2Gb RAM) and
a single (for now) SCSI disk drive: FUJITSU MAP3367NP (Revision: 0108)
hooked up to the built-in SCSI controller (the only device on the SCSI
bus).
My initial ZFS test was to
