Auth fail on Samba standalone server with LDAP backend
Hello,
My apologies for my bad english, this is not my birth langage and I'm still learning it.
I'm trying to configure a Samba server to simply use LDAP backend for authenticate users. Just that, I don't care of PDC/BDC, etc.The samba schema is present in the LDAP, and in the users profile.
The samba server have the same SID as the domain.
I can log to my samba server using LDAP

as I continued exploring Samba 3.0.4 as a PDC, I managed to get
roaming profiles up ...
Saving changes worked out fine.
I logged in as TheUserWithUID=0 ... and tried to add a user.
Access denied.
The logs for the XP-client contain:

problem joining computer to domain
I cannot join my WinXP workstation computers to the Samba domain. Using
the Computer Name / Change on the XP computer gives me an error saying
that the username or password is incorrect - except very occasionally when
it works although I do nothing different!
I have noticed that on when it works there is a machine record set up in
LDAP with Samba data as follows:-

[Follow-UP] samba BDC + LDAP slave Referral errors
hi,
i see the same error message with samba 3.0.14a and OpenLDAP 2.2.23
(Debian Packages) with Master/Slave setup.
i did not set up a referral to the master, so why does samba get a
referral when attempting to write to a slave? is this an in-build samba
feature? do i have to enable referrals to get this to work properly?
any advise is appreciated!
thx!

[BUG] Re: auth_bind with "()" in username not working
Hi guys,
I had a look in the sources about this problem.
the problem seems to be the ldap_escape function that is called from
ldap_verify_plain_auth_bind_userdn(..)
I dont really know if this escaping is needed at this point, but with
this change it works for me. No other problems discovered so far.
could somebody, who is deeper in the sources give me a hint if
this will make some troubles?

Samba LDAP troubleshooting
Hello
I'm hoping someone can provide some insight, sample snippet from smb.conf
and the samba log.
Password authentication is working & succeeding, complains about an invalid
SID which I know is the trust relationship that is formed between server and
client, this is a duplicate ldap database from a samba domain controller.
On the topic, anyone have a good book to recommend on Samba, I

Problems with userPassword when it's base64 encoded
I'm switching from OpenLDAP to the newly released Fedora Directory
Server (formely known as the Netscape Directory Server) as a LDAP
backend for my Samba domain.
I'm now faced with a problem regarding how Fedora DS handles the
userPassword field.
Unlike OpenLDAP it encodes it in base64 so instead of reading
userPassword: {SSHA}0lP+r3Z1NVan7Caf4CG9oSgnTbQRrv/p
it reads:
userPassword::
