Samba ADS-member-server: FQDNs in /etc/hosts
(new thread, same migration project)
I see GPOs applied, but network drives sometimes mapped, sometimes not.
Found something around hardened UNC paths, applied some GPO, dunno if
that is necessary or helps (I still have to check where to apply that
GPO, computer or user ...).
While debugging that I find in log.smbd on the member server:

source /etc/profile
Hello ,
There is a way to source /etc/profile inside puppet on demand?
My problem is that I install Java, afterwards I set JAVA_HOME variable
in /etc/profile.
After Java is installed, a gem which depends on Java starts to
install ... but as it needs JAVA_HOME environment to be set, it fails.
I am not sure what can I do ...
Thank you,
Adrian

Service Winbind stopped, what could be the reason ?
Hello dear Samba users,
I recently faced an issue with samba (4.10.4) and winbind.
The winbind service was stopped, so no user can acces to my samba share.
I restart the winbind service, and all users can access to the share as usually...
But I would like to understand why this issue occured.
My samba server is a centos 7 linux, configured as domain member to a microsoft AD (windows server

Failed to set servicePrincipalNames
When trying to execute "net ads join", I was getting the following message:
"Failed to set servicePrincipalNames. Please ensure that the DNS
domain of this server matches the AD domain,
Or rejoin with using Domain Admin credentials."
A couple of tips to troubleshoot this problem:
1. Do a kinit username@KERBEROS.REALM so that you can get a ticket

Kerberos Keytab Code Update in 3.0.23
First thing - I'd like to say a big "THANK YOU" to the developers.
I just upgraded to samba-3.0.23 and I've noticed an alarming issue with
respect to my configuration.
I've been using the built-in keytab management and it looks like the updated
code no longer creates the userPrincipal in Active Directory.
Whether this is an issue for others or not, it would be nice to have

Leopard Macs using Kerberos: Failed to parse negTokenTarg
I think I've found out why MacOS 10.5.x (Leopard) clients are unable to
connect to Samba shares when authenticating with Kerberos. Basically,
the
Leopard Macs insert a few extra bytes (Padding and reqFlags,
according to
wireshark) into the security blob within the Session Setup AndX Request
packet, bytes whose start tag is 0xa1, in a spot where Samba's parser
expects 0xa2. The critical

Fwd: Re: Fwd: Re: Kerberos and NTLMv2 authentication
Hello,
On my system, nssswitch is like this :
passwd:???? files sss
shadow:???? files sss
group:????? files sss
So I assumed that it works with SSSD, I do not notice any issue with Samba.
My share is accessible, permissions acls are working.
The only thing I noticed is maybe NTLMv2 is always used by default with
Samba.

net ads join fails on W2K3 server with latest MS patches
Hi All,
For the past few months I've been running a SUSE 9.2 server here
(mostly as an app server) which was a member of an AD domain
(w2k3 domain controller.) I used winbind to enable domain members
to log into the box, all was well.
This week the w2k3 server had some MS security patches applied
and suddenly logins became impossible, because winbind was unable
to retrieve user info from the

samba-tool computer delete does not work
hi,
i deleted the accounts with pdbdel.
I did a few spot checks, none of the pc accounts had the attribute dNSHostName
there are no dns-rcords concerning the account
we use bind9 for dns.
all pc have a bind9 configured as dns server, which is a dns slave of the bind9 on the samba server.
here the requested informations:
all DC are on samba

Could not join to domain with krb5 error: Message stream modified
Hi all,
I have a situation in which my SAMBA 3.0.14a could not join the a very
large windows 2003 AD domain with tens of domain controllers all over
the world. With an error I have never seen before.
The kinit part went OK but the net ads join part failed.
What we tried is to have our SAMBA joined one of the OU in which we have
the credentials to join.
BTW we had no problem to join other
