pre/postexec
Running system: SuSE 7.2 (kernel 2.2.4) & samba-3.0.0beta1. There is coexisting Win(Millennium) system at the server (reason: many win partitions MUST be directly available at the central unit under windows after rebooting to windows). People connect their laptops (with small HD and Win2k SP2) to central unit and samba offers shares with Linux accounts. However, there are many win

root prexec/postexec & login scripts
I have a perl script that I'd like to use to create windows 9x login scripts at login time but I cannot get the process to work right. I have RedHat 7.3 (actually the k12ltsp v2.1.0 which is a modified RH7.3) set up as a domain controller which is working well. Manually created login scripts run fine on the workstations at login. I'm using a netlogon script I found at

pre-/postexec in printers-section
Hi, after updating our printserver from Samba V2.0.6 to V2.2.7 I encountered the following problem. Samba does not execute the (root) pre- and postexec within the printers section. If you are using these command in another section everything works fine. Does anybody know if these command are not supported in the printers section anymore? smb.conf: [global] ... load printers = yes lpq cache

Openvpn and samba: play nice together?
You definetly need a TAP connection to make samba work over VPN. We use OpenVPN host2net-accounts created with IPCop here since quite a while and it works with samba without problems. However, the speed is of course not as fast as in local net, but this is rather related to the way the SMB-protocoll works. ;-) ________________________________________ Von: samba [samba-bounces at

postexec umount /cdrom doesn't work
Hi, Dear All This is my section of [CDROM] in smb.conf: [cdrom] comment = Samba server's CD-ROM writable = no locking = no path = /cdrom public = yes ; ; The next two parameters show how to auto-mount a CD-ROM when the ; cdrom share is accesed. For this to work /etc/fstab must contain ; an entry like this: ; ; /dev/scd0 /cdrom iso9660

can "root" still connect clients to a domain?
Hallo, samba, when I connect a Windows client to a Samba domain I am asked for the user's login name and password on the Linux server who has the rights to do this job. Under Samba 3.0.22 and older I could use "root" with a password defined via "smbpasswd" (must not be the Linux password). Under Samba 3.0.28 and newer this way seems no more possible; I have to use

DC Upgrade from 4.1.7 to 4.6.7
I did a similar DC upgrade from 4.1.13 to 4.6.6(like your option 1, upgrade on existing AD servers, I have two, first upgrade on none-FSMO). and I don't have any issues with the DC upgrade itself. But be careful with your member servers. After the upgrade, I have to change some default values on file servers: 1. samba 3.5.10 member server(rpm from CentOS 6.2) lost connection to samba

root preexec & 2.0.7
I a have a problem resulting from a neat tool I developed through the use of the "root preexec" option: This is done in the [homes] section of smb.conf. I launch a shell script with the user name (%u) and machine name (%m). The shell calls a C program to check the users quota and returns a code as the percentage of quota used. Meanwhile, all output of the C program has been captured

Cannot get shares to show up
I apologize if this is a really silly question but I've been messing with this for awhile now and cannot see any typos that would prevent these shares from showing up. I'm trying two things I've never done before so I want to make sure to point them out: 1) I am using groups in the "valid users" section 2) I am using preexec and postexec on each share Example: [Media]

Slow login to Samba domain
Hi, I have noticed that the Windows 7 machines that I have recently installed and joined to our domain take about 40 seconds on average to go from sign in to the desktop displaying. I can't find any explanation for the delay. When the machine are in a work group they login very quickly and the XP machines login at a normal rate. I have searched and not found any articles that are relevant.

Roaming profiles errors and shares not disconnecting
Hi, We are using Samba 3.0.22 on FreeBSD 5.5 PDC with ldap backend and roaming profiles. We meet some difficulties when users logout from some Windows 2000 SP4 clients, and storing their profiles back to the Samba server. The file NTUSER.DAT seems to be uploaded and stored in lowercase, as ntuser.dat. Then, when users try to reopen a win session, they get a corrupted new profile. This new

Log user log-offs
Does anyone know of a way to log when a user logs off using Samba as a PDC. I have Samba 3.0.2a and can log log-ons using root preexec on a share all users mount, however I do not know of a way to log log-offs. We need this data for record keeping purposes. We don't use roaming profiles, so using root postexec is not an option as shares disconnect when not in use. Thanks for any help,

AD, multiple DC, some DC without DNS at all
Hi all, How to configure Samba to remove DNS service from DC? I thought there was an option for samba_dnsupgrade command to tell "remove all DNS service from current DC" but I don't find it anymore. This question is because we are about to deploy an AD with 20 or more DC and there is no need they are all DNS servers. In fact having them all DNS servers make design more complex and

How can I find my files in a shared folder?
Hi, there I have a Samba(3.0.22) PDC and 100 XP users. This configuration works perfect for me. Thanks for Samba team. My question is: Is there a way to show an XP user all files belong to her/him on a Samba shared folder? The reason I'm asking, is I want to find all my file on the shared Samba folder. Thanks, Allen
