Error joining domain "The specified account already exists"
I have reinstalled samba from scratch and copied my previous smb.conf.
My main desktop was logged on in the domain. When I try re-add my main
desktop to the domain I get:
"The following error occurred attempting to join the domain
"MYDOMAIN": The specified account already exists"
I tried completely removing and re-installing samba which didn't work
either. Removing and

force re-authentication when accessing different shares
hello & thx for your fast response!
i need a way to create samba shares without creating system user accounts:
- add users via smbpasswd with unique password
- no need for a corresponding useraccount in /etc/passwd
- access to the corresponding shares should be independent from any domain
(i.e. the share should be accessable
via windows client)
to come around the useraccount-restriction (as

windows 7 machine account fails to authenticate against samba PDC
Hello all,
I've added my windows7 client to the domain (samba running as pdc),
having applied the registry changes identified here
(http://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Windows7).
Partial success - domain users can login and see shares etc, BUT:
1 - the registry settings in ntlogon/NTConfig.POL are not applied. Am I
right in thinking that windows 7 ignores this policy?
And if so I therefore

Moving a domain to new Linux install - Win7 ok but WinXP not ok
Hi all,
I am migrating a Samba 3 domain from an ageing server to a new server. I've
exported all users from the old server and imported them on the new server
using the following command (LDAP to TdbSam):
pdbedit -i ldapsam:ldap://127.0.0.1 -e tdbsam:/tmp/tdbsam.agix
scp /tmp/tdbsam.agix new.server.local:/etc/samba/passdb.tdb
I've set the same SID on the new server. Windows7

Samba + Terminal Server issue *SOLVED*
I am writing this here because I did not get a reply to my help requests
earlier and managed to solve this by myself.
I have a Win2003 server and a Linux box running Samba 3.0.5 as PDC. The
problem I had was that domain users could not log in through Terminal
Services. Local users could use TS just fine and even domain users could
log in locally, but not through TS. In addition, there were

RHEL 4.0 / Samba 3.0.10 Domain Controller
Hi all,
I have been trying to get my RHEL 4.0 machine to act as a Windows NT
domain controller so that I can get rid of some old NT 4.0 servers. I
have the shares and permissions working without issue. The only problem
is that I cannot get a Windows 2000 workstation to register to the Samba
domain controller.
I have gone through everything that I can think of, and have gone

Member server plus local accounts - can it be done?
Good morning list,
due to several changes we have to move from a pure local-users scenario
to a member server scenario for our "public" data servers ("public" in
terms of "all members of the chair" and "all machines").
The member server is running, managing access via group memberships
works. We can't add any account to the ad, as we are only a user

How to create users accounts with already encrypted passwords ?
Hi, i need to create users accounts into Samba with already encrypted
passwords from a file. I use tdbsam backend and Samba 3.0.24 (Debian Etch)
The file format is quite easy :
login1|Unix_passwd|Lanman Password Hash|NT Password Hash
First, i create the unix users with their already encrypted password :
useradd -p Unix_passwd login1.
Fine.
But can i do the same thing with smbpasswd or pdbedit

What is the recommend method to give users local admin access?
What is the recommend method with a samba pdc to give users local
administrator access to their workstations? In Samba4 / Active Directory I
can use a group policy. For Samba I can add 'Domain Users' to the local
administrator group following these instructions.
http://www.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba3-HOWTO/groupmapping.html#id2598630Is
there a better way to do this?

samba3 + ldap pdbedit machine trust account problem
Please help,
I am experiencing a weird error when trying to join a winXP Pro
workstation to my samba3 + LDAP Domain.
When I specify the account to on my system that has uid 0, I receive a
user account cannot be found error.
Now I know this isnt the case since I can browse the samba server with
this account. Note: it is in tdbsam not ldap

Pittfals Windows 7 and samba 3.3.8 (centos 5.5), LDAP BE - joining domain
Hi,
recently I got my samba/ldap/pdc setup up and running with xp clients.
Server: centos 5.5, openldap-2.3.43-12 and samba3x-3.3.8.
The new challenge: adding Windows 7 Clients and upgrading to samba 3.3.x
I followed a posting from the centos forum (1) which worked so far for
the samba update breaking nothing for xp.
Than I installed a windows 7 client with the latest patches, changed the

R looks for a folder not specified
Dear R community,
I have been getting this warning message after running a function sourced
from an R script, and can't seem to work out why R is looking for a folder
that wasn't even specified (it attaches a \NA to the specified directory,
where assess_rev has not asked to do so at all. R code has been tested by
another user and that works fine).
I have tried saving the files in a new
