nfs vs. cifs based on my usage profile
Hello, I have an interesting architecture consisting of a 3 RHEL 5.3 NFS nodes that mounts about 30 TB worth of iscsi disk and presents them as 6 different NFS shares. It is an active-active-active cluster with each node presenting a couple of shares. It works pretty well. I am doubting my decision to use NFS and am wondering if CIFS would be a better route. Here are the NFS stats: getattr

UID for CIFS mounts
Hi, Appologies if this is obvious, but the documentation isn't clear to me, and my google skills don't seem to be up tp scratch today. Basically: If I mount a CIFS share as on a linux box, and then multiple users on that machine use that share, who do they use it as? The user that mounted or themselves (users are authenticated via pam + winbind on the linux box) Is it possible to have

Hi Volker, Reaching to RedHat is not the option for me right now, could you please tell me are there any configuration parameters in smb.conf which will avoid issuing NULL or Anonymous connections or sessions. ANNOUNCE: cifs-utils release 4.1 available for download
This release is primarily a number of small bugfixes and cleanups. I wanted to do a release with those prior to the coming overhaul of mount.cifs to allow it to more safely be installed setuid root. There a couple of other noticeable changes too: - the version reported by all programs in the tarball now matches the VERSION define set by autoconf. That is, if someone runs "mount.cifs

Also added service principal in keytab file. I have added all the user and service

multi-protocol (cifs/nfs) access to same files - help please
Hello, New here, and I''m not sure if this is the correct mailing list to post this question or not. Anyway, we are having some questions about multi-protocol (CIFS/NFS) access to the same files specifically when not using AD or LDAP. Summary: Accessing the same folder from CIFS or NFS when working in a workgroup configuration (no domain authentication) works fine using cifs user

cifs.upcall not respecting krb5ccname env var?
Hello, I've been doing some extensive troubleshooting with respect to some issues mounting CIFS shares on a Windows box via Kerberos. We're using the command: /sbin/mount.cifs //whatever/whatever /whatever -o sec=krb5i This should mount the share using Kerberos & Packet-signing by using the cached credentials of the user executing the command. With judicious use of strace, it

I also tunnel the Kerberos ports to the Windows AD server 'cannonstreet' Using Ubuntu hardy, with recent updates for CIFS that are claimed to work: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/samba/+bug/236830 I tunnel like this: ssh -f -N -x -o TCPKeepAlive=yes -L88:cannonstreet:88

I got it setup and got cups installed and setup my smb.conf (included below). I can connect to the shares and copy/rename/move/etc, works
