smbcontrol smbd ping also answered by nmbd and winbindd
Hello,
with samba-3.0.x an "smbcontrol smbd ping" was answered by all running
smbd processes. With samba-3.2.x it is now *also* answered by nmbd and
winbindd:
[root@cs00 ~]# smbcontrol -V
Version 3.2.5
[root@cs00 ~]# for i in `smbcontrol -t 1 winbindd ping | grep PONG | awk
'{ print $4}'` ; do pstree -p | grep $i ; done

Has anybody got ACL to work w/ debian, winbindd in a w2k mixed domain?
Im seriously thinking about changing dist. due to acl won't work as they
should with debian woody. Ppl also tell me this is because of some bug in
debian. So, as the subject says, anybody got acl to work w/ debian 3,
winbindd in a domain? If not, hello redhat..

pam_winbind: user needs new password
Hi,
I just upgraded from Mandriva 2009.0 (Samba 3.2.3) to Mandriva 2009.1
(Samba 3.3.2), keeping all the same config files I had before. I use
pam_winbind to authenticate users against MS Active Directory.
Everything was working perfectly prior to the upgrade, and now
everything seems to be fine except for one thing: no user can have
access due to the following errors (taken from auth.log):

winbindd ping failing
I've followed the steps on
http://us4.samba.org/samba/docs/man/winbind.html for setting up winbind.
I was able to add my machine to the domain as specified using
smbpasswd (though I did not do it using the AD tool on Windows, do I
need to?), the smbpasswd cmd said it joined successfully. I verified
that the machine account was created on the AD. I then restarted smb,

Certificate problems
Hi all,
I''m trying to set up puppet 0.24.5 using the packages provided for
Mandriva 2009.0. After installing the packages and starting the
puppetmaster service for the first time, the relevant CA certificates
and keys are generated automatically and placed in subdirectories of
$ssldir. However, when I then run puppetd on the same machine thus:
$ puppetd --server myhost.mydomain

BUILTIN-Groups break winbind_idmap
Hello,
i want to migrate from samba 3.2.6-37 (sernet-built on sles9) to
3.3.12-25 (sernet-built on debian lenny). It's a domain member server in
an w2k3 ad with all company files on it. I migrated the smb.conf and
moved the winbindd_idmap.tdb to the lenny server. The winbind idmap
options are still the same with tdb as idmap backend and don't conflict
with entries of /etc/group and

Close without saving crash apps
In all Office 97 applications if I try to quit the application after modifying a file, wine crashes without showing the expected "save the file before quiting?" dialog. It seems that the dialog itself causes the crash.
The only error message that I got in cosole is:
XIO: fatal IO error 11 (Resource temporally unavailable) on X server ":0.0"

FW: authenticating using winbindd against NT4 domain fail s (URGENT)
Hi folks,
Can anyone shed light on this issue? I haven't heard from you guys. Is there
anything else I could do to expedite resolution of this issue? I've read the
WHATSNEW.txt and reviewed the release notes. I am not sure if I've fully
grasped what needs to be done. Can someone point me in the right direction?

winbindd: socket dir
Hi List,
Hunting around Google I've found a couple of references to using "winbindd: socket dir" in smb.conf to allow multiple winbindd instances to run but can't seem to find any doco on this feature.
I have tried adding this to my smb.conf file but when I try to use ntlm_auth with this configuration any authentication fails and it returns:
ntlm_auth --username=testusr

Failing identification of users in trusted domains?
Hi all.
I'm getting mad at this.
I use winbind to authenticate users in multiple domains from AD. The
config worked well, before upgrading from 3.5.3 to 3.5.10 in Mandriva.
Now, if I 'winbind -i user.name' (so using the joined domain PERSONALE)
I get the correct info, but if I do a 'winbind -i
STUDENTI\\another.name' the answer is a 'Could not get info for user

Winbindd on a pdc??
Hello,
I'm learning Samba with the aid of the excellent "Samba by example".
I've used Samba for years in my home network, but only to share home
directories and few extra shares with tdbsam with manually entered
passwords.
Having worked myself through domain control, member servers and the
working of pam, nsswitch and LDAP (and posix accounts in LDAP!) I
reached the point (in

- need forcing of user who access that share
- need forcing of file/directory create mask

Winbind crashes on SOME users
Hello all.
I'm having big troubles setting up AD integration.
I think prerequisites are OK (machine is joined and many users from both
our domains can login).
But with some (fixed) users I get:

Dovecot, pop3, mBox
I have to migrate some old system to new one with installed dovecot (It's my
first time using dovecot). I have all mails inside /var/spool/mail folder
(mbox files). I can connect and receive mails via POP3, but problem is that
dovecot doesn't clear mbox file (everytime when I make send/receive in
mailclient program I get all mails again).
If I look into log file I see (when I do

net ads join, machine password non-expiring
Hi,
I have a question about the machine account when one does "net ads join -U

when I join a machine to the domain, the machine account that gets created
has a non-expiring password. This is only a problem for the security team
that monitors our domain, they frown on any accountt that has a
non-expiring password..
Is there a switch that I can throw that will create the

Fatal: imap-login: io_loop_handle_add: epoll_ctl(1, 4): Operation not permitted
Hello,
I'am following the beginning tutorial on the Wiki, but actually, I
can't even start the server correctly so far. The imap-login child dies
immediately. What I can guess from the log is that it tries some
unpermietted operations on some files but I can't find out which files
are concerned.
Google is not my friend at all either on this matter. How can I know
which files are

winbind problem, have workaround but...
Greetings list,
I have a member server in a w2k3 AD domain that has been happily spinning
for a couple of years. As of yesterday morning, we've been having some
issues with it. I've had it configured correctly, and haven't touched it.
I'll provide the configs if needed.
I've kept it updated as time's gone on for security updates etc..
