samba 3.2.5 + ACLs - read/write permission become read only
IN SHORT: - READ+WRITE becomes READ ONLY - OWNER ACL Permissions for "another User" affects Group ACL Permissions Hi Experts, we recently figured some strange behaviour on our Debian 5 (Lenny, uname 2.6.26-2-686) + Samba 2:3.2.5-4lenny14 server that i would like to discuss here. I cannot tell apart if its a bug or just lack of understanding. Here is the Scenario: I got a samba

Shared drives not writeable
I am running Samba 3.6.6 on a Ubuntu 12.10 Samba domain member server. Users are authenticated against a Samba DC running 3.6.9 over an LDAP backend. I have a share configured as show below. Members of the 'staff-faculty' group can browse the share, but cannot write files to any subdir for which they are not the owner. It appears that the only reason they can read/traverse is because of

Incorrect group name is displayed in folder permission list in Windows
> OK, the only real problem that I can see is that you have: > > ea support = no > > This turns off the required EA. > Hmmm.... I thought this had resolved the issue, because the group names did update in the ACLs. However, I changed another group name about 20 minutes ago and it still hasn't updated in its associated ACL. I thought perhaps there was some lazy update or

write only permissions
Hi, We've just put in a Samba fileserver to replace our windows box for our School District and it seems to be working great. I have a question about defining some specific permissions though. We set up 'Drop boxes' for teachers that kids can drag files into, but they don't have read permission so they can't read each others submitted work. Here's what is looks like on

Samba + ACLs: Can’t add group write permissions
Hi there, I?ve been trying to get my head around a problem I have with Samba. I?ve set up Samba 3.6.13 on a Raspberry Pi with Arch Linux ARM on it and let it serve a couple of folders from an attached external ext4 drive mounted to /srv/cifs (of course with the "acl" option enabled). I?ve been trying to create a share that is read-writable for all members of a particular UNIX user

mac os 10.5.5 and symbolic link to www
We have a new server running Red Hat 5.2EL. Windows machines can samba to the linux server with no problems, including symbolic links to the www directory. Our Mac OS 10.5.5 machines have a problem with symbolic links to the www directory. On the Mac computers, the symbolic links show up as an alias that cannot be followed. These same MAC computers can samba to the www directory via a symbolic

file permissions with inherit permission + ACL's
Hi, I have a share (testshare) where different unix groups (testgroup1, testgroup2) should have access to. But I want that new files are only created with 660 permissions. Here are the ACL's of testshare: # file: testshare # owner: ralfgro # group: ve user::rwx group::rwx group:testgroup1:rwx group:testgroup2:rwx mask::rwx other::--- default:user::rwx default:group::---

changing owner and group
Is there a way to prevent a samba connection from changing the file owner and group? Users connect to the website on a linux box from windows desktops with Dreamweaver. Each time a user edits a file that file's owner and group is changed from apache and developers to username and username, thus preventing other users from editing the file. Can I set an option in samba to leave the owner and

Modify permission not available unless group permissions are set to write.
I've been wrestling with a problem on newer versions of samba with a configuration that "used" to work in samba 3.0.33 (RedHat Enterpise 5 packages) This maybe due to changes in the may samba maps NT permissions, but i'm not sure so I thought I would ask. I have a samba 3.3.8 (RedHat Enterprise 5.5 Samba3x packages) and samba 3.4.4 (Redhat Enterprise 6 beta packages)

Clients can't write to group-writable files
Hello, Really stumped on this issue. I have samba 4.4.7 running on a new server. Users cannot write to files to which they have write permissions via group. Example: Here's the local filesystem on the samba server. I'm logged in as jmalone : jmalone at canis; cd /home/www.nrao.edu/content/logs/ : jmalone at canis; ls -l total 4 -rw-rw-r-- 1 jmalone nraoweb 0 Nov 10 10:02

Retaining Permissions on a share
Hi all, Sorry to repost about this same issue once again, but I'm really at a complete loss as to how to solve the problem with ownership being changed after I've set it. I've set ownership as follows... ( set this by chmod -R 0770 HR, as well as chgroup -R HR-Group, I then signed into a Windows PC that was part of the domain, went to computer management as per the WIKI and chose

AD Member Server and 'vfs objects recycle' permission problems
Hi, on our samba 4 domain member server we use the vfs objects module 'recycle'. Unfortunately we ran into a strange permission problem with deleted folders. The newly created folders in the recycle folder have the wrong permission. The deleted file(s) itself has the correct group (rw) permissions. The shares correct permissions: getfacl Papierkorb/ # file: Papierkorb/ # owner: root #

group write permissions not being respected
Hi We have just migrated our data to a new file server (more space, old server was showing its age). We have a volume for collaborative use, based on group membership. In our new server, the group write permissions are not being respected (e.g. the owner of a directory can still write to that directory but any other member of the associated group cannot, even though the directory clearly

Domain Member Server: Domain Users cannot access shares
*Another reply that was accidentally sent to the wrong address...* I ran another test of a share on the raid array after making the changes you suggested Rowland. I reset the ACLs on /mnt/md0/samba_shares/test as outlined in the wiki and set the default group to domain admins. I executed setfacl commands g=rwx and chgrp domain admins, then added the directory to my smb.conf and ran
