Hello,
here's my problem :
OS: Centos 5.4 / samba: 3.5.1 (rpm from http://ftp.sernet.de )
When I try to save a document with excel to a samba share, i've got an
"inaccessible file" error message, but the file is well saved.

<earlier, David Rankin wrote to no avail:>
Mates,
I have been watching a developing problem over the past few weeks. Most
likely a M$ patch to XP that has caused problems. What happens is that XP
clients try to open the standard "File" -> "Open" dialog (like in word, or
whatever) and the file open dialog hangs and stops responding for 15 seconds
or so. I have

Poor performance getting lots of small files with WinXP/Win2k vs OS2
Hi,
We're doing some of performance tests with Linux Samba v3.
We're comparing WinXP/Win2k clients vs OS2 clients accessing a samba
server.
For one test, we're coping 10.000 small files.
Let's say, we run the command copy \\sambaserver\10000files\*.*
c:\data\10000files
With an OS2 client it takes 23 seconds to complete.
With an Windows client it takes 460 seconds to complete.

problems with DFS
Hi,
We have been a samba shop since way back and have used DFS quit a lot the
last years.
When we went with security ads instead of domain our dfs died.
We have tried 3.028(sun) in solaris wich we are leaving and 3.2.1 in linux,
our migration target.
For our 3.2.1 installation the config looks liket this and the problem
manifests itself as a empty share.

STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED with NTCreateAndX if Access Mask has System Security bit set
I've been trying to run a .NET app on Windows 2008 against a Samba v3.6.1
server running on OpenSuse x64 v12.1 but keep running into problems.
What the .NET app is doing is trying to read the ACL for a directory using
UNC path pointing to a directory below the "users" share on the samba
server. The app is running as user Administrator. On the samba side the
Administrator user has

I noticed your comments on the samba web site about the performance
issue you were experiencing with the delay in opening files. I am
having similar issues when accessing files off the server, I was
wondering if you ever found a resolution or cause to the problem. The
strange thing is that I have two identical computers and am experiencing
the issue only on one.

Long Delays Displaying Small Folders in Windows Explorer (samba-3.0.10-1 FC2)
Hi,
I'm trying to replace a windows fileserver server with a Fedora Core 2
samba server in our Windows 2000 ADS domain.
A performance problem occurs when accessing certain samba shares from
Windows Explorer on either an Windows XP or a W2K client machine. It
can take up to a minute for explorer to list files in a share folder
containing only a few files! It eventually does, but but reports

Transparent socks proxy
Hello,
I'm running Wine 0.9.10 on a Fedora Core 5 at work.
I'd like to use the Socks5 proxy we've got with application run under Wine.
The application I'm using in Wine works fine using direct connection to the
internet but this application has no settings I can change to inform it of
the socks proxy.
So I'm using Sockscap32 2.38 from www.permeo.com . It works fine under

libsmbclient question
Dear Gents,
We are using libsmbclient smbc_getFunctionRead to read from a Microsoft DFS
share. Before each 64k read there are a QUERY_PATH_INFO and a
GET_DFS_REFERRAL which slow down the transmission. Is there a way to query
these only once at the beginning of the transmission and cache it?

Logon Script is not executed: STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED
Last week we finally upgraded our servers from Samba 3 to Samba 4 and so far everything runs smoothly. For now we run 4.15.13 with an old NT-style domain while we are preparing to migrate to Samba AD-style domain.
Since the upgrade we have the issue that the logon scripts are not executed for domain users. It works a 100% for domain admins and 0% for non admin users and we have no idea why.

smb service response times + OpenVPN
Recently I had the chance to look at smb service response times over OpenVPN
using Wireshark/TShark. Here are 2 samples. In both samples a Win XP Pro
machine is connecting to a server running samba-3.3.7 and openvpn-2.0.6_9 on
FreeBSD 7.2-STABLE.

Very strange XP behaviour
I see *things* happening here.
XP. Trying to access \\host\sharea. works fine
\\host\shareb - pops up password window
shares a and ba may vary between reboots.
I spent 15 minutes scratching my head and finally tossed out
"snoop port 445"
So what I've seen.
On shares I can access wxp do:
1. Send: Tree Connect AndX Request \\host\sharea
2. Receive: Tree Connect AndX Response

Clients cannot auth to server 2012 with MIT DC
I've been playing with a MIT powered DC. There are two DCs, an existing
Heimdal based one running Samba 4.5 and a new MIT based one running 4.7.6.
There are clients running Windows 7 and 10, a 2012R2 server, and a Samba
4.5 file server.
Once the new MIT DC is brought online, clients can no longer connect to the
Windows server by hostname. Connections still work via IP address which

Extremely slow during browsing some directories
hi,
I am quite new on using Samba and sorry maybe ask a silly question here. I
set up simple Samba server on Fedora3 using the samba rpm package comes with
fedora3( version 3.0.10-1.fc3). I use the SHARE security level to make
things easier. Everything goes fine so far, except that for some windows
user, some times, on browsing some directories, it takes extremely long time
