Cupsprinter over samba won't work for w2k clients
Hallo!
I installed Samba 3.0.1 on Deb Woody 3.0 with Cups 1.1.19 and joined to an
NT4 Domain without problems, after solving the "Umlaut" problem.
Unfortunately the System was installed in german...
I read a lot in the Samba HowtoCollection and installed the printer
following to it step by step. Added the printer driver via APW, then
connected from the Client and changed some

force user statement ignored, BUG in 2.2.8?
Hi,
I have trouble with the "force user" statement in 2.2.8. I'am using a small
perl script to print into a PDF file via a printerdriver on a Win-client.
It's basically a ps2pdf. This script must run as root, or it'll crash (don't
know why, looks like a Ghostscript error, but thats not the point). Therefor
I inserted a force user = root in my conf. Then I have a strange

Cannot access samba users from Windows Server 2008 r2 trust
Hi,
our setup is
Samba 3.3.12 as the Trusted Domain (Domain name: SAMBA)
Windows 2008r2 as the Trusting Domain (Domain name: W2008)
The trust itself works quite well, users of the SAMBA Domain are able to
log into the workstations of the W2008 domain and even roaming profiles
are working.
However, when I try to configure permissions on a share of the W2008r2
server to users from the SAMBA

security = domain and Mac OS X
I've set up Samba on Mac OS X to do pass through authentication to
the nt domain in AD several times now. No big deal, it usually just
works.
Now, however, it doesn't appear to be working. Note the relevant part
of the transaction below (loglevel 4).
Steps to replicate:
a) Add pre-Win2K account with AD Users and computers
b) sudo smbpasswd -j EXAMPLE -r WINSERVER -U

CIFS in fstab
Hi, folks,
I have a difficulty using a cifs connection...
O/S: Mandrake 10.0, updated kernel, at 2.6.8.1-12mdk, running Samba 3.0.7
packages.
I'm trying to mount, via CIFS a share on a Windows 2003 server. I have no
control over the use of smb signing, so I need to use cifs, not smbfs (the
organisation as a whole has over 25000 users, using numerous servers, almost
exclusively Microsoft

Changed UIDs from winbind after server reboot!
I set up a samba 3.0.2 server as member server in a NT4 Domain.
Winbind works great and I can "use" the NT Domain users for all I need.
At the moment I'm testing different shares with their permissions.
The Samba will also be our printserver, so I set up also cups and added
the printers to samba with cupsaddsmb - Great tool! . Users could
connect and all worked fine.
After a reboot

mystified by interaction between krb5.conf, smb.conf, and winbindd
I am stumped here. I am a novice at using samba to do MS Active
Directory stuff, but I have read everything I could find in the HOWTO
collection and on the linux.samba cache of the list and am still stuck.
A bit of background... I have set up a Windows 2003 server as a domain
controller here and configured it to be the DNS for a ficticious domain
for internal use only. The domain functional

For some reason unknown to me, I'm completely unable to change

net use z: \\sambapdc\share1 <file:///\\sambapdc\share1>
However I still get prompted for a user name and password. I don't seem
to have a way to force the "net" command to connect anonymously.
If I can force an anonymous connection from Windows, then I should be OK.
(Again, this share does not contain information that needs much protection.)
Thanks

%a switch for windows7 und w2008 server?
Hi
I have found this switch for seperating profiles in a mixed windows
version environment
You can also take full advantage of Samba's Variable Substitutions and
further separate User's profiles, such as by architecture. Using the
directive:
* logon path = \\%L\profiles\%U\%a
will separate the user's profiles relating to each version of Windows,
such as WinXP, WinNT, etc.

We discovered that the the patch for BUG 9817 (https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=9817) which was first included into Samba 3.6.15 breaks our cross-domain setup:

AD DC Domain "D" [WinServer 2008 R2]

Newbie Problem: need Windows Printer Driver?
Hi friends
I just started using wine on my Linux-machine. Mostly because I want to
switch finally from Windows to Linux on my computer at work. There is just
one single application I want to "take with me" and that is "GraphPad
Prism" (http://www.graphpad.com/prism/Prism.htm).
So I installed wine0.9.20 on my Mandriva2007. Then I used wine to install
Prism in its most recent
