User lost domain admin privileges
Recently, something broke in Samba, my user, lorenl, is no longer an
Administrator on any local workstations. I am the only administrator
for this network, and there's nothing I've done related to any Samba
configuration changes recently. On all workstations, I've checks that
DOMAIN\Domain Admins is listed in the Administrators group. I ran this
command from the Command Prompt

Samba LDAP Tools
I am looking for some good tools to manage Samba users in LDAP. It
looks like there are several good tools mentioned on the Samba Wiki, but
I am concerned mostly with the proper addition of new users to LDAP, in
particular, generating unique SIDs. smbldap-useradd, for example,
generates the SIDs for primary user and group based off of a simple
formula based on the UID and GID, whereas Samba

ntlm_auth fails to find PDC on same computer
I am trying to get ntlm_auth working for Authentication against the
local Samba PDC which is running on the same computer. I am using samba
3.0.28a on Ubuntu 8.04.1. smbd, nmbd, and winbindd are running and
Windows clients have no trouble logging into the domain. Running
ntlm_auth --username=myusername reports No logon servers. I ran the
command as root and according to strace, it looks like

Veto files with question mark
Hi !
I would like to remove from listing the "Icon?" files created by mac
user when they customize their folder icon.
So I did in my smb.conf :
veto files = /Icon?/
ok it's working, but "Icone" "Iconx" "Icons" will be removed too. I
tried veto files = /Icon\?/ but it's not working,
Is there a way to use question mark (?) but not as a wild-card ?

Samba builtin groups and LDAP
I just set up a fresh Samba PDC using OpenLDAP as the passdb. When I
start smbd, I notice some log messages about failing to create some
builtin groups: Administrators and Users. Is Samba trying to run a
group add script which I have not setup or to create posixGroups in LDAP
which it does not have permission to do? I turned up debugging output
and saw that it complained about not getting gids

Decommissioning old PDC
I'm trying to decommission our PDC which is running on some older
hardware and migrate it's functionality to one of our two currently
operating BDCs for the domain. The three servers have nearly identical
configurations with only differences in file and printer shares and a
couple attributes like "wins support" and "domain master". They all have
identical netlogon

Dovecot stable slow
A few days ago I installed dovecot stable to replace uw-imap. The
install went well and all boxes were converted ok. When accessing the
new imap server though, certain operations seem much slower, in
particular, moving mail between boxes is very slow, and I have received
several complaints from users that the mail server has slowed down. I
can't figure out what the slow point is as maildir

vim timestamp issues on CIFS mounted shares
First: this is my first post on this list so any suggestions, let me
know.
I recently had to make the move from SMBFS to CIFS when I upgraded from
Fedora 4 to 5. Changing settings in my /etc/fstab was easy and no
errors come up but now I'm having an issue very similar to post I found
on your list that got no response back in April:

Time stamps
I am new to SAMBA and I have what I'm not even sure is an issue. I am
aware of the difference in time stamps between *nix and Windows. What I
don't understand is this: I used touch to modify the time stamps of a
large number of files on the file server from the server side to match
the time in the file name. They were video files from my Digital Video
Cam and the import program used

SMBFS files receiving incorrect timestamps
Hello all.
Our system consists of two linux machines, each running Red Hat 7.1
(kernel 2.4.9-34), using SMB to mount multiple shares hosted by a
Windows 2000 Advance Server. smbclient from Samba 2.2.5 is used to do
the actual mounting.
Over the weekend, a number of files on these SMBFS shares were created
with incorrect timestamps (modification times). In some cases, the
timestamps were off by

How to import timestamps from emails into R
I am analysing occurrences of a phenomenon by time, and each of these
timestamps taken from email headers represents one occurrence. (The last
number is the time zone.) I can easily change the format.

I have tried many escape variations for the slash but that has not
worked either.
Any thoughts?
Thanks!

timestamp OK, but not displayed correctly
Hi,
we found that the timestamp of files is not displayed
correctly, since the time switched to summer time.
The file server has the right time and under unix
the "ls -l" shows the correct time, but under windows
1h is added (all files seems to live in the future).
Any hint ?
Bye,
Peer

1 hour delay between Samba and date
Hi!
I have Samba 2.0.5a on HP/UX 11.00 (it compiled great!!). When I try
"net time \\mysambaservermachine" it replies with one hour more than
"date" on the unix shell. I have already checked timezone vars in my
unix box but I cannot find anything wrong. Should I setup something in
my samba server config? I have changed "time offset" and "nmbd as a

Problem with as.POSIXlt$hour
Hello,
In one of my functions, I need to extract the hour from a date.
For example:
as.POSIXlt("2010-03-27 02:00:00")$hour gives 2 as expected.
It works for all the dates I've tested except the following one which is in
my list of dates:
as.POSIXlt("2010-03-28 02:00:00")$hour which gives 0.
I don't understand why it doesn't work with this particular date.
