Patronizing the exclude * option
I need to get around the requirement of --exclude=* to have all the
parent directories of the files and directories that are to be
included. So given the file..
/startdirectory/subdirectory1/subdirectory2/filetobecopied
I need to include
/
/subdirectory1
/subdirectory1/subdirectory2
I could just include the entire directory structure , but
alternatively just include the needed paths. So the

vfs objects
Is the ?important" vfs objects parameter documented in a man page anywhere? It appears in the man pages of several vfs modules, but never fully documented that I could find. Apparently it once was from a now dead link https://www.samba.org/samba/docs/old/Samba3-HOWTO/smb.conf.5.html#VFSOBJECTS <https://www.samba.org/samba/docs/old/Samba3-HOWTO/smb.conf.5.html#VFSOBJECTS> .

acl_xattr vs acl_tdb
Hi!
Does anyone know how many ACLs can be stored on file system (xfs) using acl_xattr module and in file file_ntacls.tdb?
Best regards

idmap GID range became full without reason
Please excuse my ignorance: I have been running Samba for a little time, and I've very little experience with it.
I'm running Samba 3.0.37 on FreeBSD 7.2/amd64, configured as member server of a domain whose PDC is a Samba 3.0.25b-apple (the default Samba instance running on a Mac OS X 10.5.8).
The member server is sharing a couple of folders for 5 users (most of whom are using Mac OS

Well, not exactly :-) Only 5 months and 5 days :-) However, this specific
thread is only 9 days old. I had a few mails in january, february,

NTFS ACL on database and vfs_acl_tdb
Hi,
we are migrating our fileserver from an old novell netware system to a
samba4 system. With netware all ACL were stored in a database, so that
it was possible to quickly find which files one user or group had access to.
I'm investigating the possibility of writing ntfs ACL on a database with
samba. The module vfs_acl_tdb is able to do this, but values are hashed
so that the db is not

In your last post there was this:

ADS member server to 2008 R2
Hi all,
I have a strange problem, and I can't seem to solve it.
I have set up a Ubuntu 9.10 server with samba+kerberos to be an ADS member server. The PDC was a 2003 SBS server, and all was well.
Recently I added a 2008 R2 server standard to the mix, and promoted it as a domain controller. Ever since I did this, the samba server stops working daily.
I have updated to 3.4.7 out of the

frequent core dumps (invalid lock_order?)
Hi,
I'm hoping somebody can point me in the right direction. My samba version
is samba-4.2.10-6.2.el7_2.x86_64. I have lots of daily core dumps (~20 on
each machine daily) and I have no clear idea why. I'm including the stack
trace below. It looks like the problem is related to "invalid lock_order".
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Sergei
