'Administrator' account (UID 0) on Samba member of a Samba4 AD DC
Hi all, I have a samba server as member of an AD DC. In said AD DC there is the 'administrator' user which has the default UID of 0 (the same as root) from the ADDC: # id administrator uid=0(root) gid=513(SMC\Domain Users) groups=0(root),513(SMC\Domain Users),3000005(SMC\Group Policy Creator Owners),3000009(SMC\Enterprise Admins),512(SMC\Domain Admins),3000007(SMC\Schema Admins) from

DNS Domain Name vs Samba4 Domain Name vs NT4 Domain Name
Hi, I am unclear on the relationship between the hostname, DNS domain, server's FQDN, NT4 domain name, etc. Quoting the HOWTO: "For the rest of the HOWTO we will assume that your DNS domain name is samdom.example.com, your short (also known as NT4) domain name is samdom, your Samba server's hostname is samba and the IP Address of your Samba server is 192.168.1.2." Samba4 + Kerberos cross-realms + ldap
? ? ?Quick and easy question: I have a network which already has its own kerberos + ldap servers running and I want to setup a samba4 box as AD. So, from conversations here and on irc, the best thing to do is to setup the samba4's built-in kerberos to do cross-realm authentication with the other kerberos server. Now, how would those crossed users look like in samba? Or, how would they be

Samba4 for AD using existing LDAP, Kerberos, and Bind Setup.
We run Apple's OD to support our Linux, Mac, and Windows clients and servers. We are under pressure to use AD because more and more software coming out for Windows requires it. We don't want to use AD, so Samba4 looks good. However, we don't want to pull apart our directory to implement samba4. Is there a way to get Samba 4 running so that it is able to use the existing LDAP and

ADS mode - differences between W2K and 2003?
I'm having a bizarre problem doing authentication via winbind against a Windows 2003 server. Aside from changing the hostname information, etc. as appropriate for krb5.conf and smb.conf, the configuration I'm using is one that I copied from another server that is successfully authenticating against ads. The two systems I'm having trouble with are running Suse Linux Enterprise

Samba3 to Samba4 migration: Databases and backend.
Hi! We're currently in the process of evaluating an upgrade from our current setup (Samba3 with Kerberos/OpenLDAP and Bind), to Samba4. When we started reading about the migration process, we were led to believe that OpenLDAP wasn't fully supported in Samba4, and thus decided to use Samba4's builtin solution. Then upon reading the How-To on the Wiki, the "Migrating from LDAP

GPO Permissions _AGAIN_
Hi all, I'm afraid I'm back to my old issue of GPO permissions. I have two ADDCs providing an AD Domain (internal.stmaryscollege.co.uk (short-name 'SMC')). Servers are called 'ad-01' and 'tainan'. ad-01 is 'Version 4.0.10' and tainan is 'Version 4.1.0rc4' (the latest version in the package repos of the respective OSs (arch and gentoo)) I have

using paste and "\" to create a valid filename
Sometimes even the easy stuff is difficult (for me)... I want to get input from different places to paste together an excel filename (so you know I'm using windows) that I can open with RODBC. I know about using double "\" since its an escape character, but I get either 2 or none, I can't get just one "\" where I need it. See example code below. I am using R 2.1.0,

[OT?] Strangeness on clients migrating NT -> AD...
Yesterday we have done our first trunk of migration from our Samba4-NT4 domains to our new Samba 4 (2:4.5.12+dfsg-2+deb9u2~bpo8+1) AD domain. Main shares are kept on old server, so we have migrated computers and users (homes and roaming profiles). We have done in the past some tests, without many troubles, so we are confident. Alla computer are Win7 Pro, alla configured in the same way via

change uid/god below 100
Hi. Only indirectly related to zfs. I need to test diskusage/performance on zfs shared via nfs. I have installed nevada b64a. Historically uid/gid for user www has been 16/16 but when I try to add uid/gid www via smc with the value 16 I''m not allowed to do so. I''m coming from a FreeBSD backgroup. Here I alter uid using vipw and edit /etc/group afterwards. -- regards Claus

Bluetooth, palm, ppp and shorewall
Hi Folks! I''m new to shorewall (in the process of switching from Bastille), and I have a question as to how to address using Bluetooth enabled Palms with a BT dongle on a linux box protected by shorewall. Basically I followed the directions located at http://www.metacon.ca/bcs/view.php?page=bluetooth to get things working strictly with iptables, specifically: echo

[LLVMdev] Secure Virtual Machine
SVA looks very promising. It would be great to be able to run unmodified C safely! However, it does not seem to address my original question: how can I ensure that code cannot DoS either the memory subsystem, or the CPU? In my proposal, I could execute said code in a concurrent process with a memory quota. How would SVA address that problem? Sandro On 6/2/07, Vikram S. Adve <vadve at

Samba4 and DNS
Hey Everyone, I've been reading through the Samba4 docs, but I am a bit confused, so please forgive me if I have missed anything obvious. I am trying to setup Samba4 as a Domain Controller for our department. We do not control our DNS; that is done through campus IT. All of our workstations (soon to be members of the domain) already have entries in campus DNS. If I were to
