Samba LDAP SID and Local SID
Hi All, I am running Samba - 3 using a ldap backend, recently I have needed to change the domain of the computers as I am migrating to other server, I have the ldap database and populated the ldap database on the new server, but I am facing a problem with SID's as the SambaSID in the ldap backend is from the old samba server which is different from the current SambaSID(net

3.0.2a: SID, User Enumeration
I'm runninng samba 3.0.2a on a few machines, ADS security mode, domain member roles. I throw nessus at it, and it can fetch the SID and then list all of the users on the system. I view this as a security problem, is there a way to prevent this?

W2k to W2k3 winbind enumeration issue?
I've been in the process of decommissioning a W2k domain controller and moving the whole show to a new machine with W2k3. Everything has moved along quite well except changing the samba setup to use the new system. A little background: Samba 3.0.10 on gentoo KRB5 ver 1.3.1-r1 using winbind/kerberos to integrate the samba server as an AD member server. The Samba server holds departmental

Openssh use enumeration
Hi, sorry I don't know if I send this to the correct channel. I have notice that OpenSSH has recognized the presence of the user enumeration as a vulnerability, http://seclists.org/fulldisclosure/2016/Jul/51 (CVE-2016-6210). I want to make an appreciation, this is a old vulnerability already announced three years ago.

rid_idmap_get_id_from_sid: no suitable range available for sid
Hello, I have the following message posted on the linux.samba newsgroup, but so far no response. Therefore I try again in this group, hoping that there are other people reading this group, and yes, that hopefully somebody can help me with my samba winbind problems. I'd be interested in helping too. I'm pretty new, but I think that JNI would be the easiest way to go. of course, never having done anything with JNI, what do I know :) Dave -----Original Message----- From: Josh Coalson [mailto:xflac@yahoo.com] Sent: Wednesday, November 28, 2001 5:19 PM To: Cain Brian-BCAIN1; dev Cc: Cracauer, David D. The clang for centos6 are need GLIBC_2.14, but we only have GLIB 2.12 by default.
It is possible to statically link against libstdc++, yes. I don't quite know all the pieces to the recipe in order to get that to work. It would require changes to the release script in order to get those configuration changes all the way through the third phase build. I don't believe any other tarball release does this, so it would at least be an unconventional release. On Wed, Jun

Account Unknown: SID not resolvable
Hello, When viewing the Security tab of a user object I find 2 username/groups that display their SID as opposed to their username with Account Unknown. I tried to use 'wbinfo -s' with the SID but it's unable to return a result. Using a well know SID works without issue. At one point this domain used 'idmap_ldb:use rfc2307 = yes' in the smb.conf file when it was

Group SID problems?
Have a site where the network users are connecting to most shares through group usage. Unfortunately, access to Samba is sporadic. Sometimes they connect okay, sometimes they can't connect at all. Looking at their system config, I notice that the SID's for the groups look..... odd. The users group ends in 3005.... but each user's PrimaryGroupSID is a group with a SID that ends in

DFS enumeration on a Samba hosted DFS tree.
I've translated a Windows based DFS tree to a Samba based (3.0.23c) one and it seems to work quite well from Windows Explorer and cmd.exe. First off, I have a relatively big tree. grep dfscmd /root/dfs.cmd | wc -l 1614 One issue I've noticed that tree enumeration and manipulation from a Windows machine to a Samba based DFS root just doesn't work at all. For instance dfscmd.exe

Access Based Enumeration
Microsoft has an add on for Windows 2003 SP1 that will do access based enumeration. This is great because of "out of sight, out of mind". If the user doesn't have privilege to access the directory or file it doesn't show up in the directory listing. http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserver2003/techinfo/overview/abe.mspx Any idea when samba will be able to do the same (if it
