Problems with password policy in Samba 3.0.4
Have an issue with password policy in Samba 3.0.4 with tdbsam password backend on RedHat 8.0. This issue was observed with an up-to-date Windows XP client, NT's SRVTOOLS on Windows 2000. I can set password policy (expiration, length, etc.) using usrmgr.exe from the Windows NT Server Tools. After setting policy, when I execute 'pdbedit -Lv someuser', it does not display the correct

creating users from w2k with usrmgr and samba 3.0.1
Hello everybody! New to Samba (and the list) I am trying to set up a Samba PDC for a small enterprise network on a Debian Woody (3.0) system with a vanilla 2.4.24 kernel and the Debian package of Samba 3.0.1 and Swat (Debian Versions 3.0.1-2). I ran into various problems and could solve most of them during the past two weeks (hooray!). Most of the problems were related to congestions of user

user must change password, works in ursmgr.exe but not with pdbedit
Hello After spending quite a few hours building a completely new domain with samba as a pdc for a local school I now have everything working(shares, printers, multiuser addscripts, etc). The only problem I have is that it is impossible to force user to change password on next logon from pdbedit. It is possible to set this trough usrmgr.exe but its not really convenient when adding multiple users

PDC, usrmgr.exe created user lacks profile info
I'm finally near the end (I hope) of setting samba 3.0.14a as a PDC on a debian sarge, but I (and google, and list archive) can't manage to find a solution. When I add user with the help of usrmgr on my XP box, user is created both in linux and samba (thanks user add script), but lacks profile info (I mean Home Directory, HomeDir Drive, Logon Script and Profile Path), so roaming profile

win2k usrmgr.exe returns "remote procedure call failed"
WHAT I HAVE: I've inherited a production debian system. uname reveals kernel 2.4.18-bf2.4. I am now running samba 3.0.14a with a completely "stock from source" install (as part of my troubleshooting activities). The machine acts as a PDC for win2k clients. It uses smbpasswd for the password back end. There are approx 20 users. It also serves dhcp, ntp, mysql and apache. WHAT I

Unable to change password in windows - SAMBA_LDAP_PDC - SOLVED
Hi Guys. Thanks for your help with this, when I turned up the debugging level to 3, and found: "user cannot change password now, must wait until Sun, 09 Dec 2007" When I setup the server, and was configuring policies, i set the minimum password age to 45 days (3888000) (For the other server, I used the usrmgr.exe for this, while on this one I used pdbedit, cos usrmgr did not work for

Password must change: 0
Hi all, I'm trying to create a domain user in USRMGR.EXE. The samba account will have its property "Password must change" set to 0. this results in the user not being able to access shares if he has been never logged in before. smbclient will return NT_STATUS_PASSWORD_MUST_CHANGE after logon. in USRMGR.EXE, it is impossible to uncheck the checkbox for "password must

User Primary group problem
How do I establish both a user's primary NTgroup and Unixgroup when creating a new user? Depending on the tool, I can set his NTgroup or his Unix group, but I don't seem to be able to establish both with one tool. I'm having a little difficulty with creating users with the proper groups. My login scripts are based on the user's primary group. When I create a new user with

One problem I've come across (actually I had loads but the HOW-TO, Samba archive and google solved most of them) is with usrmgr. There is one XP client that I have installed the NT 4 Server Tools software on for the school IT coordinator (note the phrase

Questions on Samba3/OpenLDAP/PDC
Greetings! I set up a PDC with samba 3.0.4 and openldap-2.2.14 and use smbldap-tools to populate ldap database. I am able to use the Microsfot's User Manager (usrmgr.exe) to add and delete users. I have a few questions that I hope you can help me with. 1. smbldap-tools maps Domain Admins group to group ID 512. I created domadmins group with ID 512 in /etc/group and added

USRMGR.EXE won't add user
Hello Tried to add user in user manager from domains, NT4.0 client, logged in as root on the NT client. Clicked "New User", filled in nick, description, full name, password1, password2 (was dead sure they were the same, carefully typed 9-chars long stupid passwd). The user wasn't in the database. Then clicked OK. Never managed to add user this way. Checked all the add user, del

(no subject)
Hi Moray, ? Thanks for your answer. It could help but only partially. ? The script name logon%u.cmd was a bad example. Actually, a user can log on from WinXP , or Win 7 workstations, and I'like to run different logon scripts depending on the OS . So having logon script = logon%a.cmd in the smb.conf generally works thanks to variable substitution. ? But for user accounts that have been

Unchangeable "Password must change: Fri, 13 Dec 1901 21:45:51 MET "
Hello Group, I've been reading many posts but i still don't have the answer to how to force a password change or set a password lifetime. I'm using w2k clients which connect to a samba PDC version 3.0.10 on a basic SunOS 5.8 system, no ldap or so. syncing the ux-passwords and the smb-passwords works perfect, but i can't get it working to force users to change passwords. Re. : scripts and pdbedit
Hi, I think that the delete user script is called only by smbd when a usrmgr or other external tools work with samba. smbpasswd and pdbedit is local tools and not use the "delete user script", it work directly with the selected sam. ----------------------------------- St?phane PURNELLE stephane.purnelle@corman.be Service Informatique Corman S.A.

USRMGR Not adding users properly
I'm having problems adding users with usrmgr. I can run the scripts from my smb.conf fine from command line and do what I need to. But, when adding users with usrmgr, the login script and path statements are not identified and I have to go in and edit them manually. Does adding a user with usrmgr not use the add user script from Samba? Or must the user environment variables be added
