Experimental FreeBSD ports / packages for test61
Hello,
If anyone would like it I have provided a Dovecot 1.0 test61 port and package
for FreeBSD 5.3 here. I made them for my own experimentation but thought they
might be interesting to others I suppose.
http://www.helenmarks.co.uk/~dom/dovecot/
These deviate from the stock test61 because I've updated and added a patch I
wrote a long time ago for ioloop kqueue/kevent support in

Smbget 3.4.7 Permission Denied in Crontab, Not in Interactive Console Session?
Assembled Wisdom,
I was trying to help this poor guy on the intertubes who is having some
bizarre issues with running smbget (version 3.4.7) from a cron script?
Is there are some weird environment variables or something I am missing
that is off-limits to the sh in cron that prevents this from working?

mget timeout
hello
I am trying to download a large file (9 Go) with smbclient on a linux
machine from a NAS. Apparently, smbclient mget has a timeout that prevents
me to download this large file.
smbget is a possible solution.
Also I'm doing this over an ssh tunnel. So I need to proxify smbget. Yet I
cannot specify another port than 445 on smbget.
I am stuck.
can anyone help me?
thanks

small security-related rsync extension
Included below is a shar archive containing two patches that together:
1) make backup files get their setuid and setgid bits stripped by
default
2) add a "-s" option that allows backup files to continue to have
these privileges
This means that if you update a collection of binaries with rsync, and
one or more of them has a local-root security problem, the backup
file(s) created when

Regularly being asked for username/password
I'm a bit of a noob w/ samba and I set up a small samba shar (v. 3.4.0)
on my ubuntu machine which hosts a shared drive for a single vista
laptop (my wife's machine).
My question is .. is it normal for her to regularly be asked to enter
her username and password or is it something that I've done in my
configuration.
Note: I used the configuration guide from Linux Journal

FreeBSD trusted execution system: beta testers wanted
All,
I have written a trusted execution module and would appreciate if anyone could
help in testing. This module provides a functionality similar to NetBSD's
verified exec mechanism. Once the design details of this security policy has
been solidified, I will be releasing a white paper which describes the
technical implementation in greater detail.
The mac_chkexec policy logic can be found

Yes, I mean smbclient.
I input a command like?
smbget -U guestshare -R smb://localhost/share
The version option says that version is 4.13.13-Debian.
Computer is irrelevant, because you are developing it for a certain operating system, not a computer.
Dolphin worked.

Multiply each column of array by vector component
Hi,
I've got an array, say with i,jth entry = A_ij, and a vector, say with jth
entry= v_j. I would like to multiply each column of the array by the
corresponding vector component, i,e. find the array with i,jth entry
A_ij * v_j
This seems so basic but I can't figure out how to do it without a loop.
Any suggestions?
Michal.

linking object files
Dear friends. I would like to link an object file made in C. Dyn.load rather wants to link a whole library and I only wanted to link this small object file. I followed instructions given for S - by Clive Loader in his software for changepoint handling and it is his object file I made from http://cm.bell-labs.com/cm/ms/departments/sia/clive/smcp.shar
Any dirty tricks or easy oversights ?

Runnable R packages
I don't think anyone denies that you *could* make an EXE to do all
that. The discussion is on *how easy* it should be to create a single
file that contains an initial "main" function plus a set of bundled
code (potentially as a package) and which when run will install its
package code (which is contained in itself, its not in a repo),
install dependencies, and run the main()

ISOdate returns incorrect date?
Dear all,
I have found the following (for me) incomprehensible behaviour of
ISOdate (POSIXct):
> ISOdate(1900,6,16)
[1] "1900-06-15 14:00:00 Westeurop?ische Sommerzeit"
> ISOdate(1950,6,16)
[1] "1950-06-16 14:00:00 Westeurop?ische Sommerzeit"
Note that in the first case I get the 15th of June back, not the 16th as
I would have expected!
This happened under R-1.7.1 on

fast code
Hello,
I have two vectors x1 and x2 both in increasing order.
I want to select the x1[j]th entry which is the max min of the x2[i]th
entry. I can do this using if and for statements but is there a quick way
to do it without running a loop?
Thank you in advance,

lme parameterization question
Hi,
I am trying to parameterize the following mixed model (following Piepho
and Ogutu 2002), to test for a trend over time, using multiple sites:
y[ij]=mu+b[j]+a[i]+w[j]*(beta +t[i])+c[ij]
where:
y[ij]= a response variable at site i and year j
mu = fixed intercept
Beta=fixed slope
w[j]=constant representing the jth year (covariate)
b[j]=random effect of jth year, iid N(0,sigma2[b])
a[i]=random
