centosplus kernel packages and compiler versions
I just installed the updated kernel packages for centos 4.4 from the
centosplus repository.
When I run vmware-config.pl to rebuild the vmware modules, it warns me
that the kernel was compiled with gcc 3.4.6, whereas my compiler is
gcc 3.4.5, and recommends that I not rebuild the modules unless I have
exactly the same compiler version.
I ignored this and built the modules anyway and they work

high load printing with 3.2.15
Hi,
I am still struggling with the printing in a AD2008 R2 environment I
changed to 3.2.15 by now. Still very slow, I am running on solaris 10. Not
sure if my clients are so chatty by now but it is really killing any
performance. Using truss I see loads of:

19702: fcntl(17, F_SETLKW64, 0xFFBFE150) = 0

3.3.10 <-> AD 2008 R2 very slow
Hi again,
I changed from 3.4.5 to 3.3.10 after an AD upgrade to 2008R2 and prinitng
is working mor ore less but it is incredibly sloooow. My server has no
remarkable load so it is not due to hardware bottlenecks. Are there any
ways to 'tune' 3.3.10 or any tricks to make it faster ?
cheers

file locking question
Hi all,
If I have a linux server running samba for filesharing and I use NFS to
make these shares available on another linux server that also runs samba
to share the same shares will the locking still work properly?
I can use this to get around an issue with multiple authentication
domains and I suspect NFS is less chatty than SMB anyway so will mean a
peformance win as well across the WAN.

[LLVMdev] Chatty C++API code generation
Hi all,
when I have c code like

No Logging for most VFS Operations with full_audit on smbd 4.9.5-Debian
Greetings,
I am running audits on a restricted file share for smbd 4.9.5-Debian. Messages go to syslog via local5. I am mostly interested in file access and modification, plus the occasional failed connect. The only operations that yield any results appear to be 'opendir' and 'open'. Unfortunately, 'open' is chatty to an extend as to render logging useless. I am getting

fluxbox, ess and redrawing r windows
Hi,
I'm running Lenny with Fluxbox, interacting with R via Emacs + ESS. An
ongoing aggravation with this setup is trying to get R graphics windows
redrawn.
For example, I may have 8 or 10 R graphics windows open, and I switch
between them using Alt-tab. The problem is, sometimes the windows remain
blank. Sometimes I can get the display back by moving the window with
the mouse, or switching

2.6.11 / IPSEC / Netfilter
Hello,
Having combed through the changefile from kernel.org it seems to me that
policy matching is still not in the 2.6 kernel. Is that a sadly correct
statement?

Samba server visibility
I must be missing something somewhere. I can't get our Samba server
to show up when I look in Network Neighborhood under XP. If I type in
\\servername\path, it won't find it, however if I use the IP, it works fine.
Now, experience tells me that I'm having to type the IP because it's
not resolving the name. Well fine, I can fix that, however I don't
recall doing that

Lightscribe
I just bought an HP DVD Writer 1040r (as identified by k3b), an external
USB-connected CD/DVD burner. The drive gets assigned /dev/scd0. I can
burn CDs and DVDs, read from CDs and DVDs, boot from DVDs (and, I
assume, CDs) but have been unable to use the lightscribe software to
label a disk. I have lightscribe-1.18.11.1-0 and
lightscribeApplications-1.18.6.1-0 installed, can run the GUI at

I was doing updates on a server and I think that the network connection
got reset. So I guess the yum update didn't complete and I now get this

Grandstream Ringtones
The about-to-be-released Grandstream firmware now supports multiple
ringtones, but (so far) I haven't been able to unearth any documentation
as to how one uses them.
Anyone out there know anything about this? I've googled, read the
firmware READMEs and combed the GS site without any luck.
Thx.

Voicemail Password Changes Lost on Asterisk Restart
Ok I have googled and googled and combed through the wiki for an answer to
this and have come up empty. What I'm finding is that when a user changes
their
VM password, it is saved somewhere like maybe the CSV database or something
because when you log in, the new password works fine, but it's not saving to
voicemail.conf. So new passwords are lost when asterisk is restarted and
people
