Ubuntu clients can acces to the [homes] share
Hi, I have a server with Debian Lenny, and I installed samba on it. I do two shares, one, a normal folder with auth, and this share worjs fine in all the computers (Windows XP and Ubuntu Karmic). But the [homes] share only works in the XP machines. When I try to acces to the [homes] share from a ubuntu machine, I can't authenticate, I mean, the auth box don't appear. ?Anyone know why?

UPS shutdown - always the thing to do?
Hi, In an instance where the system is in a sometimes-unattended facility, are there different implications to shutting down the UPS from a script, as compared to not doing so? My goal is to have systems recover ASAP when the power comes back. My UPS is a Cyberpower 1500AVR. The two servers connected to it boot fine when power is restored to them. But I'm ignorant on how the UPS itself will

bug in `pmatch' (error with too long 'choices')?
I observed the following: match.arg("white", colors()) yields 'white', but match.arg("whit", colors()) yields: `Error in match.arg("whit", colors()) : 'arg' should be one of "white", "aliceblue", '... this message actually comes from `pmatch'. using a suitable subset of `colors()' works OK. the precise length

How do I diagnose what's going wrong with a Gluster NFS mount?
Hi, Has anyone even seen this before - an NFS mount through Gluster that gets the filesystem size wrong and is otherwise garbled and dangerous? Is there a way within Gluster to fix it, or is the lesson that Gluster's NFS sometimes can't be relied on? What have the experiences been running an external NFS daemon with Gluster? Is that fairly straightforward? Might like to get the

any suggestions to deal with 'Argument list too long' for a R CMD check?
Since, gcc was using upwards of 2gb of ram to compile my package, I just split all the functions into individual files. I guess I'm too clever for myself, because now I get hit with the "Argument list too long" error. Is there a way to deal with this aside from writing my own configure script (which could possibly feed the gcc commands one by one). -Whit RHEL 5 [whit at

It's fairly easy to link against the libraries from rwinlib: https://github.com/rwinlib/zeromq. I'll send you a pull request later this week to fix the binary

smbclient error message interpretation
Hi all, For sure I'm dense today. I use smbclient rarely - every few years just to test a new setup. I'm building a replacement server, and want to go from an smbpasswd setup to an ADS member setup. The smbpasswd setup has worked just fine for the Windows workstations, but we'd like the convenience of just maintaining the users in one place through Windows. So I'm going through

R 2.11.0 for Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx on CRAN
Dear Ubunutu R users, Vincent Goulet and myself would like to announce the availability of R 2.11.0 for Ubuntu's latest release, Lucid Lynx. The packages should be on or arriving soon to your favorite mirror. R 2.11.0 packages also exist on CRAN for all Ubuntu releases going back to hardy. As Johannes Ranke pointed out for the Debian release, R packages installed under R < 2.10.0

allow_duplicate_certs = true not working?
I saw this feature became available in 2.7.0rc1 and wanted to try it out. I entered ''allow_duplicate_certs = true'' on both my master and agent systems in the puppet.conf (not sure if its need in both, saw it in genconf for puppetd and puppetmasterd though ...). I also have autosign.conf configured to allow autosigning for our domain (*.domain.com). I had my agent register with
