Is there a way to allow empty user (NULL) to connect to samba3 as nobody/guest from W2K/XP workstations?
Hi,
After switching to samba3 I've noticed that it doesn't allow
connections with empty usernames with security = user anymore.
Samba2 mapped empty user to nobody, is there a way to achieve such
behavior? It is needed for compatibility - we still have lots of W2k
workstations that allow passing empty usernames in login prompts (as
opposed to XP).
Adding null/NULL to

Windows XP sees fedora14/samba3 shares but not fedora20/samba4 shares
Hi,
isn't it possible, that your new Samba4 server uses higher SMB protocol,
than the old MS windows XP machine can understand/handle?
Not sure about this, but might be worth checking?
cheers :]

Win XP on Samba3
Hi,
I have eventually got my Server to work, win2000 is happy and loads
profiles., win98 is ok., BUT winXP recons "Cannot log you on.: "the
procedure number is out of range" please try..." This happens
irrespective of username/passwd entered or not. Does anyone know what
is going on? Or how to fix it? I could not find this in FAQ's.

XP stops nearly all networkservices after joining Samba3 domain
Hello list,
I setup samba3.0.1pre3+ldap as PDC. NT and 2k Workstation work.
I can add xp clients to the domain. But when then the user logs in, the
xp stops nearly all services after the authentication:
login-, workstation-, browser-,audio- etc. service
When I login as domainadmin,go to the Services, switch the logonservice
from automatic to manual,
then login again as domaiadmin, start manual

IT WORKED!!! THANK YOU.
Now the XP machine can see both the f14 and f20 shares. (It was not
even necessary to restart nmbd or smbd on the f20 machines.)
Now, if I'm not asking for too much, can you please explain why this
worked. :-)
Many thanks

Samba3 ACL problem with Windows XP
Hello!
A good day to you all. i seem to be experiencing a
quirk with my test setup, as i am unable to delete
files/folders even with the proper ACL entries.
i am using the stock samba 3 package on
FC4(samba-3.0.14a-2), and have set up winbind
authentication against a Windows NT 4 PDC. i've
created two users, user1 and user2, which have their
primary group set to group1(gid=16777221) as

Very slow network after Samba3 upgrade with 2k clients.
anyone having, had, or even have any thoughts on the issue described
below? its killing me....
The short description of the problem is: using direct to server UNC
type paths, we see 'normal' speeds. Going threw a DFS (re)director,
we see very bad performance from any machine running 3.0.*, but not 2.2.3a.
We make heavy use of DFS. This service is on a machine named

Can't access shares from Windows Clients (Win2003 AD & Samba3 as Member Server)
This is my first venture into the world of Samba 3. I have a Win2003 AD
domain in native mode (no Win2000, NT4 domain controllers.)
My samba server successfully joined the domain. The problem I'm having is
when I try to access shares on the samba server from a windows client, I get
a Username/Password prompt. Giving my AD username/password doesn't work.
Tried all variations of my

The system has 1 gig of RAM and a CDROM (not DVD). The on-board network

Samba3 in W2k AD, W98 clients need password for Samba share
Hello everybody,
I've setup a file server with Debian GNU/Linux (Sarge) and Samba v3.0.10
with ACL, Kerberos etc... so I can join the Windows 2000 domain. I can
use users from domain on file server without problems and Windows 2000,
XP clients can access Samba shares.
But when I try to connect to \\fs from Windows 98 client (in domain) it
requests password from me (\\fs\IPC$). I have

mandatory profiles, group policies, Samba3 PDC winxp Clients
Hello all,
I've been trying to figure out what the best way of doing the group policy
thing is. We are running samba 3 on slackware 9 with winxp clients. We are a
school. i'm unclear on how much AD is actually supported... OU GPO all that.
so i decided to go the "administrative template" way (used to be .pol files)
I'm thinking of having the students run off of a
