BDC Rejecting auth request from client + Windows 7
Just some background: In our environment, we are running both a PDC and BDC. The local network setup has static ips on a different subnet from dhcp ips, thus the PDC has a static ip and the BDC has a dynamic one so the Windows machines are able to see the domain without hardcoding in the ip of the PDC as a wins on each machine. This has worked fine for Windows XP. We are also using ldap as the

Trusted domain or BDC?
Hi all! I have to join some remote offices and share the userbase. Some offices must have it's own domain (same enterprise group, but different company). For this offices I plan to make a trust relationship between domains (W2003 <-> Samba and Samba <-> Samba) and for the others (same company) perhaps I have two alternatives: + Implant it's own domain and make another

wbinfo -t not working on BDC
Hi, I just can't seem to get winbind to work on my BDC. I'm using FC3 and samba 3.0.20rc2. My PDC is RHEL4 running Samba 3.0.14a. / Openldap. I can join the BDC to the domain successfully using "net rpc join..." , but when i enter wbinfo -t to check the trust relationship i get checking the trust secret via RPC calls failed error code was (0x0) Could not check secret I

PDC/BDC Distribution Question
I'm looking for input from other institutions out there that are using the samba PDC/BDC setup. At our institution we have the potential for nearly 500 network clients on our domain and we are considering expanding that to 1,000 clients. According to John Terpstra in his Samba-3 book there should be a BDC for every 50 network clients on the domain. We are currently running a solitary

Problems with BDC authentication
Today we had a problem with our Win NT4 PDC and discovered numerous failover issues with our Samba file server. For starters, this is a Debian Etch machine running Samba-3.0.24-2. At this point, this is a critical production machine. Upgrading is on our to-do path, but is not an option for an immediate fix to this problem. With the exception of this problem, this Samba installation has been

Windows Seven
Dear all, I am sure this question was asked many times, but I read that Windows Seven should work with Samba 3.2 We have SLES 11 (SuSE / Novell) and the version provided is smbd version 3.2.7-11.6-2057-SUSE-CODE11 Is it possible to join domain with Windows Seven to this version or is it incompatible ? I also read this, but it's not clear if 3.2.7 would also work or not ? *

Samba LDAP PDC, BDC + Shared Interdomain Trust secret
Hi there, I have a Samba PDC and BDC migrated from NT4 using ldapsam with an interdomain trust to a 2k3 domain. The trust is established both ways and was made from the pdc. Using samba 3.0.14a-sernet on Suse 9.1 The trust is working. I can pull users from the trusted domain and apply them to acls on my samba DMS. Winbind adds the idmap entry correctly. What is not working, is authentication from

samba PDC & BDC
OK - I'm actually functioning but I'm afraid and I want to fill in a knowledge gap - perhaps a slight gap in the How-To Book or my ability to soak in its' wisdom. LDAP up and working on two machines, master & slave and changes made in master can be found by ldapsearch on slave faster than two up arrows and a return (gosh, it only took me 10 days but the light bulb has definitely

Prevent 'BDC' overtaking 'PDC'
Hello all, I have 2 PC setup as PDC and BDC (both Centos5, with samba 3.0.23c-2). The problem is, quite often client logon to BDC instead of PDC. I tried to tweak the OS level, but seems not affecting the problem. My understanding is that BDC will only taking charge of client logons when PDC is unavailable. Or is it that BDC will work hand-in-hand at the same time with PDC regarding domain

Samba PDC and WinNT BDC
Was wondering if samba will run a BDC on a linux machine? In this scenario the PDC is a NT box. Details: -------- We are using samba 2.2.2 with winbind in order to replicate the list of NT users/groups on a NT 4 network. There is an existing NT 4 PDC running on the network. Our software would like to know the complete list of users and groups so it can manage access to resources. To clarify:

Does the BDC need to "join" a domain?
If I configure a samba PDC and then a samba BDC, do I need a machine trust account for the BDC? That is, do I have to run "net rpc join" on the BDC? Or manually create the account for the BDC in LDAP? -- Mariano Absatz - "El Baby" el.baby at gmail.com www.clueless.com.ar

which test for seven groups with dependency in replication and discrete values
hello! My Problem is, that I want to compare seven groups, which have the discrete values from 0 to 3. These are damageclasses of plants. 0 is best and 3 is worst. Every group has 4 replications with 2 plants. The two plants were together in a cage with animals. I think the problem is that the two plants are not independent from each other. I don't know which test I can use for this

the seven.c.o blog and twitter
hi, wondering if we should setup a twitter account for seven.centos.org and have it linked into the blog code to auto tweet on new posts ? There is a lot of great content on the blog now, and I suspect its not getting a lot of air time. Could we do something similar for the centos facebook groups as well ? Samba 4.2 extremely slow with (some) XP & Seven boxes
Hi there, After an upgrade our fileservers to samba 4.2.10 (debian package), some (but no all) of our XP and Seven boxes are extremely slow. Toggling "require strong key" to no does not help. Our DC are still 4.1.17 (debian package) Is there any known issue? Regards

connect windwos 7 to linux homes
With windows XP this worked perfect. I would map a network drive to \\servername\homes<file:///\\servername\homes>, provide my linux samba user account and it would stay functional between reboots. With windows 7 I can map the network drive as in XP but after a reboot the mapped drive to the linux samba homes share breaks with the message Microsoft windows network: multiple connections to a

Help with windwos 2000 and Samba 2.0.3 / can't see shares
I reported this (or tried, I emailed the bug list with the results with debug set high). Both 2.0.7 pre1 and the CVS today won't show shares. I note that tcpdump apparently shows that it is trying to negotiate an old protocol - I can see the decode of the Win98 traffic, but not W2K. It fails on the routine that does the get next share name. Basically with W2K, smbclient -L won't show
