Strange OpenLDAP errors w/ samba 3.4.3
Hi all,
after an upgrade of my Ubuntu 8.04 64-bit box to a self-compiled samba 3.4.3 (Lenny backport dpkg), I see strange error messages in my OpenLDAP log:
slapd[3388]: do_search: invalid dn (sambaDomainName=,sambaDomainName=<domain>,cn=<...>,dc=<...>,dc=<...>)
Samba seems to work, though, but this message makes me somewhat nervous.
Any ideas?
Thanks, Albrecht.

Ops...I figured put: for any strange reason the ldap schema was missing from
the ldap configuration file. I guess it was a wrong update. Now the system is
working.

central PDC + remote BDCs: LDAP strategy, my lack of comprehension
Hello, I am trying to figure out how to implement a samba domain in a
number of remote offices around the world with partly bad and often
interrupted WAN connections/VPNs. The goal is to administer the directory
from the central data center.
My obvious choice would be to set up a central server with
SAMBA+OpenLDAP+smbldap-tools and in each remote office a SAMBA server with

Windows 7 + Samba domain issues
Hi all,
Earlier I emailed the list on some issues I was having with Windows 7, and one of those issues was the trust relationship breaking down after one month. I think I have some more light to shed on this topic.
First, some environmental facts
I am running Ubuntu Karmic 9.10 with Samba 3.4.0-3ubuntu5.1
I have installed the latest LDAP schema into OpenLDAP 2.4.18-0ubuntu1

Problems Migrating password and group info to ldap
Hi Samba list,
I am migrating a v3.0.9 (Suse 9.2) smbpasswd backend samba domain over
to a v3.0.9 (suse 9.2) ldapsam backend and I have been incurring some
problems I have not been able to resolve.
Intial setup:
1. samba (working) (at least any new account created can login domain
and SID properly registered in LDAP)
2. ldap (working) (server accepting logins via ldap accounts)
3. smbldap

Ferret FileNotFound error after adding counter_cache to mode
I have a model that I''ve been indexing and searching with ferret with no

I just added a counter_cache for some voting functionality to the same

model, I get the FileNotFound error as it looks for a file named
"_1c_1.del" ...which breaks my voting function.
I tried killing the server and my index

samba 3.0.7 and OpenLDAP
Hello List,
yet another OpenLDAP/Samba problem...
OpenLDAP: slapd 2.2.17
Samba: Version 3.0.7
Debian stable with 2.4.27
I am trying to do this howto (smb auth via ldap):
http://www.idealx.org/prj/samba/smbldap-howto.en.html
Even IF the user does not exits in my ldap table, why does smbd just
exit? Do i start it the wrong way?
This is the output of smbd -F -i -d 9 -S -s /etc/samba/smb.conf

The thing is that I cannot be able to get Samba and LDAP to talk as they
should and now Im really stuck.
Below are my dumps for /etc/samba/smb.conf, ldap.conf (copied its contents
to /etc/openldap/ldap.conf too), and smbldap.conf.
Excuse my long post; trying to be as elaborate as

sambaDomainName=DOMAIN for next free id
Hi,
I'm following JHT's example doc off the web. I just applied a patch for the
confiure.pl script for the smbldap-tools that John gave me. It now makes
the sambaUnixIdPooldn object default to: cn=sambaDomainName=DOMAIN whereas
the output of the configure.pl script given in Chapter 9 of the book is
shown as: sambaDomainName=DOMAIN
I now have the first version of the sambaUnixIdPooldn

continually getting the message "The user name could not be found."
I am attempting to join using members of the Domain Admins group (mapped

sambaDomainName=HOST i.s.o. ...=DOMAIN
Hello,
I'm trying to setup a standalone samba server named "alta" in a
workgroup named "TDOM". So I put
workgroup = TDOM
in the 'smb.conf' file. The netbios name of the machine defaults to
'ALTA' so no netbios name paramater is needed (I assume).
I've put the user and group accounts in an ldapsam backend and I also
