OS X Clients Can't Create Sub-Directories
I'm running samba on a local linux server, with a bunch of shares. Over the last several years, this has worked perfectly in our heterogenous network of OS X and Windows. All my windows clients still work perfectly - my users can mount the samba shares and create, rename, move etc files and folders.
However, recently (starting yesterday) my OS X clients are unable to rename any sub

winbind and local groups
Hi, I have been setting up samba and winbind on a Debian Linux box to
allow access to shares authenticating from a Windows 2000 Active Directory
Domain.
I have got almost everythign I want to work, but I am stuck with one
thing. I would like to add domain users to a local unix group and then
add that group to the valid users line to a share. Enclosed is my
smb.conf and my /etc/group files

Directory Permissions?
Hello,
Running Samba 3.3.10 on FreeBSD 7.3.
Cannot copy a folder with a subfolder and 10 files in the subfolder from
an OSX 10.6.4 client to a folder on the Samba server. What happens is
that the folder gets copied but not the subfolder and its files.

Odd Mac OSX 10.6 error on Samba share
Hi All,
I've done quite a bit of research on this one and if I'm honest about the
cause of this "fault" it's probably because I'm trying to do too much
"outside the box" :) Nevertheless I enjoy the challenge so here is the
scenario:
I have a Samba Service (v3.2.5) providing file shares running on Debian 2.6.
The samba server uses a Windows Domain server for

Trying to preserve UID and GID when backing up with rsync
Hi all
I am trying to use rsync as part of a backup solution for a machine with multiple users. The intention is to run rsyncd on a different server with typically different user IDs. I also intend to run rsync from the client as root and essentially back up the following:
/etc/passwd
/etc/shadow
/etc/group
/home
In the event of a disaster we would reprovision the machine then restore the user

XP not obeying Samba file perms
Hi List,
I have an unusual problem concerning the Windows XP "Rotate" image
explorer shell extension. I have a share called "Archives" defined with
a number of sub-directories. Whilst I have read/write permission to all
directories, I am unable to use the Windows XP "Rotate Clockwise" or
"Rotate Counter Clockwise" image command on JPG's contained

why does --size-only not detect change only is size (but also time)?
Hi,
I'm wondering why when I use --size-only on the same file, except the
modification time, rsync transfers the modification time?
I was under the impression that --size-only caused rsync to transfer files
based upon differences in the size of the file.
For example:
#cp Untitled.pdf Untitled-2.pdf
#touch Untitled.pdf
#rsync -ani --size-only Untitled.pdf Untitled-2.pdf

vfs_streams_xattr and create mask = 0640 don't play well together
Hi everyone,
We are working on the deployment of samba 4.2.3 on Solaris 11.1 with ZFS backed storage. We plan to use the new vfs_fruit in order to better support our OSX clients out there. Everything seems to be working fine so far, but one operation:
If the user on an OSX client sets (or modifies) a tag (the colour flags or a custom tag) on a directory *AND* the share is configured with

Generating file names
I read a data set into a data.frame. I then operate on the set, add
columns to the frame etc. and now want to output the frame into a file.
Trouble is, I want the file to have a name based upon the original data
set name.
I cannot figure out how to cat strings together and use that new string
as the output filename...
Example:
original data name: D08a
desired output name: Analyzed_D08a

Clients send tons of Notiftication requests
I am still fighting with this issue.
I did the following: I connected to the NAS with a read-only account called kodi. I traversed various folders and I finally opened an image.
Everything went fine.
Looking at the logs, the get_entry mask file only shows the final folder:

sub-directory permissions and active directory group membership
I'm not sure where the problem is, but security group membership and
access to sub-directories is giving me fits.
Take 2 unique security groups as example, group1 and group2. If within
my top level share there is a directory labeled marketing and a second
directory labeled legal, where group1 and group2 are assigned to
marketing and legal respectively, then the group1 members should not

samba 2.2.7a and multiple logins...
Hello
I use a new samba server with LDAP support as PDC for some Windows2000
and WindowsXP machines.
All is working nice. The useer can login with a user/password in the
domain, we have remote profiles, the user can access the samba shares
and print etc.
But after some time (< 1 day) we get a smbstatus output like the
attached file. Users are connected multiple times with the same share

data import (on macintosh)
I think the problem is the way files are named on the Macintosh.
On the Mac, the file separator character, which is "/" on unix
and "\" on dos/windows, is ":". Also, the root directory doesn't
start with the separator character, but instead just starts
with the volume name, which is the name of the hard disk icon
on your desktop, so if your file is in the top
