I asked about this a few days ago, but none of the suggestions have made any difference... asking again in the hopes I'll find more things to try....

Samba version: 3.4.0
OS X 10.6.2
I'm running samba on a local linux server, with a bunch of shares. Over the last several years, this has worked perfectly in our heterogenous network of OS X and Windows. All my windows

Guest access to share, user-level security issues
I'm having issues getting samba configured such that a guest can
browse a share when using user-level security.
I am running debian lenny amd64, should that matter, using version 3.2.4.
Here is my smb.conf:

server string = %h
map to guest = Bad User

XP not obeying Samba file perms
Hi List,
I have an unusual problem concerning the Windows XP "Rotate" image
explorer shell extension. I have a share called "Archives" defined with
a number of sub-directories. Whilst I have read/write permission to all
directories, I am unable to use the Windows XP "Rotate Clockwise" or
"Rotate Counter Clockwise" image command on JPG's contained

why does --size-only not detect change only is size (but also time)?
Hi,
I'm wondering why when I use --size-only on the same file, except the
modification time, rsync transfers the modification time?
I was under the impression that --size-only caused rsync to transfer files
based upon differences in the size of the file.
For example:
#cp Untitled.pdf Untitled-2.pdf
#touch Untitled.pdf
#rsync -ani --size-only Untitled.pdf Untitled-2.pdf
.f..t......

Trying to preserve UID and GID when backing up with rsync
Hi all
I am trying to use rsync as part of a backup solution for a machine with multiple users. The intention is to run rsyncd on a different server with typically different user IDs. I also intend to run rsync from the client as root and essentially back up the following:
/etc/passwd
/etc/shadow
/etc/group
/home
In the event of a disaster we would reprovision the machine then restore the user

Winbind and user-mapping
Winbindd can see the NT-user, but samba can't work with the NT-user.
My System: SuSE Linux 7.2 Enterprise Server

4. cp /tmp/samba-2.2.3a/source/nsswitch/libnss_winbind.so /lib
5. ln -s /lib/libnss_winbind.so /lib/libnss_winbind.so.2

rsync stoped syncing
Hi,
I want to keep the home-Directorys of 2 machines in sync.
Therefor I start rsync every hour with cron.
In the Beginning all worked fine, but now ...
I searched, but can't see the problem.
The home-directorys on the "master" change very often, but the
changes are no longer replicated to the "slave". Both run Linux and
rsync 2.5.5.
The master calls (the long line may be

I already successfully configured shadow copy service without a delimiter and regex. But as soon as I try to get this to work with regex, nothing shows up on the win client.
My config looks like this:

shadow: sort = desc
shadow: format = _%FT%T
shadow: delimiter = _
shadow: snapprefix = ^\(monthly\)\{0,1\}\(weekly\)\{0,1\}\(daily\)\{0,1\}$

How to create a chromosome location map by locus ID
Hi,
I'm trying to make a chromosomal map in R by using the locus. I have a list
of genes and their locus, and I want to visualise that so you can see if
there are multiple genes on a specific place on a chromosome. A example of
what I more or less want is below:

The genes and locus are here:

Permission denied for volume create in raw format
Hi,
I'm facing similar problem to described here:
https://www.redhat.com/archives/libvirt-users/2016-February/msg00033.html
I got Libvirt pool mounted over netfs and I'm trying to create new volume,
with pool.createXML. When format is qcow2, everything works fine.
Unfortunately, for raw images libvirt raises error Permission denied. Whole
pool is owned by root. Libvirt starts as root user

Can't create any VPS using KVM template due to the error with libguestfs
Hi,
I'm using SolusVM control panel to create KVM VPS. Suddenly, I can't make
any VPS on Host-Node. Their build log says the SolusVM can't read the
libguestfs in server.
During the debug, I've tried to mount existing VPS using guestmount command
and I can't mount the KVM image.
Please check here.

mounting win2003 server shares fails
I emailed about this before but didn't get any response. I am desperate.
I can mount the share of any computer in the domain. XP (even with sp2), 2000, etc... everything works no problem.
When I try to mount a share on a win2003 server, the command completes successfully, but when I try to view the folder, it is not showing.
I have tried several variations of commands:
mount -t smbfs -o

Hello Everybody,
I was searching for an answer myself for quite some time without success, so
I hope somebody can clarify...I use rsync to sync webcontent from one server
to another.
Apache-details:
* Apache runs as nobody:nogroup.
* Source-Server-Rights htdocs: The rsync-user gains access via o+rx
* Destination-Server-Rights htdocs: The rsync-user is in the group
'nogroup', gains

Samba domain with non-domain Win98
I have a samba domain. Also there are some machines which are not in

I've tried this:

browseable = yes
writeable = yes
guest ok = yes
force user = ftp
force group = ftp
But when I'm trying to connect to this share I've been asked for
password to IPC$.
Can anybody help?

I am trying to share an NTFS flash drive with samba.
If the drive is not mounted, I can do what I want
from Windows 7 and XP on the mount point. I have
full access.
But, when I mount the stick to the
