Problem authenticating from standalone servers via Samba 3.0.34 domain member servers to Samba 3.2.5 domain controller
We recently upgraded our PDC from Debian 4 to Debian 5. That entailed
an upgrade of Samba from 3.0.24 to 3.2.5. Since the upgrade we've had
a very specific problem connecting to shares on a commercial NAS
running Samba 3.0.34.
The problem happens when users try to connect to shares from
standalone servers--e.g., Windows XP Pro boxes that we use for
testing. From those boxes users should be

winbind_idmap.tdb not being updated
A few days ago I upgraded from 3.0.2 to 3.0.9, and since the upgrade, the
winbindd_idmap.tdb has not ever been modified, even after several restarts
of samba, and reboots of the system in question. It appears that the UID
mapping is still correct on the samba server, but I am just concerned that
new user additions etc are not being stored to the tdb files.
winbind_cache.tdb is being updated with

Users created after certain date are not cached by winbind
It seems that I have some users that winbind refuses to find. As far as I can tell, all of these users were created or re-enabled (had their expiration date reset) after a certain date. I have cleared my winbind_cache.tdb and winbind_idmap.tdb to no avail. Curiously, I also noticed that even when I removed the idmap, it still came back with the original mappings.
In my winbind.log, I see numerous

Help with configuration of winbind and idmap backend = ad
Hello all,
I have an interesting situation that I'm trying to get working. At this
point, I'm not sure if it's possible to do what I want with my
configuration. I will start by explaining my situation.
I have a primarily windows network in my organization. I also have quite
a few UNIX systems as build servers. All these systems share 1 file
server (currently a Netapp, but I am moving

Could not convert sid: NT_STATUS_NO_SUCH_USER
Hai,
Thank you for having trust in my packages.. :-)
Now if you use my package, i suggest, do read the howto's also...
All you need for a good setup on debian stretch is there.
if anyone find/see's improvements, please tell me... Or change it on github, thats why its there.
First is this an upgraded domain? Or a new domain?
What does `getent passwd username` tell you.
Same for `id

TDB corruptions
Hi all,
We have been using samba 3.0.33 for some time now.
We notice that many a times tdb files get corrupted.
For instance, I happen to see the following case of tdb corruption many a
times.
We have samba boxes as member server to a windows PDC.
some times I see that some users are not able to login to access the shares
on samba machine.
That same user look up was succesful earlier , but now

Could not convert sid: NT_STATUS_NO_SUCH_USER
hi all,
I can't figure out why winbind can't find ad users with wbinfo calls.
It happens on a member server, Debian GNU/Linux stretch, samba is 4.7.5

how to clear winbind cache
Hello all,
I'd like to know how to clear winbind cache. The problem is that we have
decided to change uid and gid mapping range, but changing smb.conf
accordingly didn't help. We use ldap as backend. After deleting all idmap
entries in ldap nothing changed. If we disable winbindd caching with -n
switch we receive desired effect - users get mapped to new uids and gids.
Restarting winbindd

winbindd consuming 99% CPU
Hi All,
We are currently caught up in a weird situation while using samba 3.0.28. There is a requirement from the customer that we should support ADS with 64000 objects. When we implemented the feature, we found couple of things mentioned below:
1. After joining ADS with 64k users, samba takes around 20 - 25 min to populate idmap_cache.tdb and winbindd_cache.tdb This is because we haven't

Samba bug 7818 / Debian bug 603729 RESOLVED finally (I think)
I thought I would post this in case it might be of help to someone else
who has experienced winbind crashes since moving to 3.5.x.
Back in November 2010, after upgrading to Samba 3.5.x, I started
experiencing repeated winbind crashed resulting in the generation of
"winbind_cache.corrupt" files. I was premature in saying the problem
was resolved and the bugs could be closed because
