chmod/chown on receiver
Hi there,
I'm pushing a directory tree from a samba server with notificytion via
fileschanged (FAM) to a webserver for procession images into an
image-database. These files have to be rw by wwwrun on the receiver.
If the receiver woul pull the files, the script could chmod after transfer,
but how can the sender do a chown/chmod on the receivers side? Maybe -o -g
-p can be enhanced or

nfs-server in centos 7 - no error message from chown/chmod commands on clients
Hi,
we are using centos 7 as an nfs-server.
Chown / chmod on all linux clients (RH5,6, Ubuntu 14.04) don't get any errors from unallowed chown/chmod commands. Return-code is 0.
e.g.
ls -al test.txt

chown otheruser test.txt

chmod and chown
Hello guys,
does anyone of you have problems with chown and chmod operations taking
extremely long time to complete. For example chown on 200 MB folder is
taking minutes. The MDS is not loaded at all. All other operations (file
read and write) seem to be doing fine.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

chmod / chown settings on /var/www/html
I'm setting up a new CentOS 4.4 server to work with Fruity (a frontend
program that operates Nagios). For security purposes, what chmod and chown
settings do you put on the /var/www/html folders?
Also, can anyone recommend any good LAMP hardening guides? While I'm not
planning on putting this into production, I'd like to cover all my bases
before that's an issue.

Tar with smbclient
Just created a new backup server using CentOS 5.0. I am using a auth file
to access windows shares for backups. When connecting like this
smbclient //server/share -A=/auth/file
it works.
When I try to tar with smbclient like this
smbclinet //server/share -A=/auth/file -Tc /backup/tarfile.tar
I get the following message.....
session_setup_failed : NT_STATUS_LOGON_FAILURE

smbclient oddness
I forgot to mention that using the smbclient option
-A /etc/cred/authfile
behaves the same way as attempting to manually enter the password on
the command line; failing in 4.12.2 and working in 4.11.0
Thanks, Grant.

Not possible to chown as guest?
I run Samba server on my OpenWRT router. I normally access the share
as guest from my Linux box. Here's the relevant line from my
/etc/fstab:
//192.168.1.1/T_Drive /mnt/r cifs
guest,rw,iocharset=utf8,uid=1000 0 0
Recently I harnessed rsync to backup a number of photos from the Linux
to the Samba share mountpoint but rsync said that chgrp failed when it
tried to change group

smbclient oddness
Hi all.
I have had this apparently inconsistent behavior in smbclinet
since, around 4.11.(6?). 4.11.0 seems fine.
I am on fedora 31 so I have just been keeping smbclient at 4.11.0 but
that is not an option in stock fedora 32 which I would like to use now.
My main problem with it is that it seems to be stopping automount
working on samba shares of Fed32 clients.
Any suggestions welcome...

rsync-3.1.0 --chown, --usermap, and --groupmap ignored?
The man page describes options --chown, --usermap, and --groupmap, but
these seem to be silently ignored beyond validating that the user and
groups do indeed exist. Is the following supposed to work?
$ touch a
$ rsync --chown=http:http a b
$ ls -l a b
-rw-r--r-- 1 jed jed 0 Oct 14 02:44 a
-rw-r--r-- 1 jed jed 0 Oct 14 02:45 b
$ chown http:http b

chown/chgrp for winbind users doesn`t work
Hello,
I have two Samba Domains and each trust each other (PDCs run 3.0.22). Also
I have a samba member server (3.0.24) that runs winbind. When I use wbinfo
I can see the user and groups of both domains. I also can chown/chgrp
files with users of the domain the server is member of. But I can`t
chown/chgrp with accounts of the trusted domain. chown doesn`t work at
all. chgrp works, but then only

sftp-server and chown
Hi,
I've already discussed this issue in SSHSCI's SSH 2.2 context on
ssh at clinet.fi list. My standpoint is that it's wrong and meaningless
to perform chown in sftp-server as the file is most likely copied
between systems with distinct accounting system where user is not
necessarily (and even unlikely) has same numeric user id. The original
bug report was that user couldn't

chown and AD users
Hi everyone,
I want to set ACL's on some directories for AD users with chown command,
but it doesn't work.
wbinfo -u is ok and return all users. i.e :
DOMAIN\administrator
DOMAIN\user
...
if I try :
#chown -R "DOMAIN\user" /my_dir
I obtain this :
chown: incorrect user : "DOMAIN\\user"
chown systematically "adds" a backslash, but I don't

virsh vol-create-as failing on NFS automount for chmod (dynamic_ownership = 0)
Hi Everyone:
I am trying to create a volume using the vol-create-as command but it
fails with an "Operation not permitted" error. It appears to be caused
by an attempt to run chown on an NFS mounted file system but I have set
dynamic_ownership to 0 in /etc/qemu.conf.
Is it possible to disable the chown operation? If not, is there a guide
that describes how to create storage

Win and linux shared filesystem with chmod support for linux side?
Hello :)
I have a current setup of apache serving websites for users, apache is
using cgiwrap for all scripts so the filesystem needs to support chmod
and chown stuff.
This would all be good and dandy if everything was linux based, however,
.. the whole setup needs the ablity to parse asp files as its needed for
teaching !
I setup apache with something like this (ignoring all the php, perl,

Doubt on usage of rsync for chown of existing folders
Hi
I would like to have changes (chown) in the destination.
However, some files did not changed size or rights. All files should have new owner.
Thanks,
