Given up on Fedora Ubuntu is 1000-folder simpler
I spent several days (at least 20 hours) tying to get Fedora 11 Samba server
going. I consulted every resource that I knew including this list. When I
discovered that Fedora 11 Samba could be browsed immediately upon
installation, and a simple reboot disabled this, I gave up. I decided to try
Ubuntu. After intallation it took only five minutes of editing the smb.conf
file to make my share fully

I can't get multiple interfaces to work
I've looked through all the doc and searched the list archives, but I just
can't seem to get it to work. I have a Linux box with 5 ethernet
interfaces, 3 of which have winboxes I'd like to include in my little Samba
network. I'm able to get it far enough for each winbox to see the linbox,
but they can't see each other.
Here's my setup:

Double DTMF digits
When dtmfmode is set to inband for SIP, and i originate a call from sip
out to the PSTN, I can hear the DTMF digit twice in the audio stream.
Once very briefly and once for normal duration.
Our Theory: While Asterisk is parsing the DTMF, for a fraction of a
second, while the end user generated DTMF is being detected, the DTMF is
passed inband. Once the DTMF is detected Asterisk silences it

plot() and points() precision control
Hi all,
I have a problem in that when I plot points that have a high degree of
precision, some significant rounding seems to occur, resulting in
uneccessary overlap of my points. Is there a way to specify the
resolution or precision in plotting functions? Is there an underlying
grid I have to modify somehow?
Many Thanks,
Jon

Realtime Queue Status for Agents
Hello,
I am having a problem which stems from the fact that the Agents that
handle my call queues are unaware if there are are people waiting in the
queue. I have found the following configuration options but they are
not very helpful.
in queues.conf:
announce=xxx
The "announce = XXX" option in queues.conf makes Asterisk play the XXX
announcement to the member of the queue who

Forensics CD Toolkit for FreeBSD
Hi,
I'd like to build a toolkit CD specifically for conducting
forensics on FreeBSD. I'm not talking about a bootable
CD but rather one that I could pop into a CD ROM drive
and run trusted commands like ps, netstat, ls, etc., from.
I'd like to build a CD that would work on -RELEASE versions
of FreeBSD like 5.1 and -STABLE versions of FreeBSD too.
Can anyone give me any pointers

Fedora 11 can't browse local LAN for file shares
I spent some time looking through some of the recent archives and didn't
find exactly what I was looking for. There is a lot to look through so I
quit after while. My answer maybe there but I didn't see anything that
looked like it was relevant to the problem I'm having.
I have samba 3.4.2 installed on a Fedora 11 system. The problem I have is

I've installed the singseal registry patch already.
Anybody think of what is causing this? Any help is

R 14.0, ggplot2: could not find function "initRefFields"
Hi,
I have a problem combining R and SPSS (21). I do not know whether the
solution is in R or in spss, so I will post both in the R group and in the
SPSS group.
I use the R plugin in spss(21). The most important reason to use this
plugin is ggplot2 (spss does not have a decent graphical system). This
plugin requires R 14.0 (14.2 or 15 does not work).
When I install R it gives an warning:

well, here's what I found out about the 32-bit integer conversion.
If the original 16-bit sample is 0x52F3, it goes through floating
point, then comes

Is FLAC fully cooked for OS X yet?
OK, so I've been trying for a day now to get FLAC implementation in
our apps. Suffice it to say that due to the "interesting"
documentation and the inability to compile this thing from the
source, I'm not sure we can do it yet. I am writing in to see if
there's anything I'm missing before I make the conclusion that we
have to wait...

perception of graphical data
Hello,
I apologize that this is off-topic. I am seeking information on
perception of graphical data, in an effort to improve the plots I
produce. Would anyone point me to literature reviews in this area? (Or
keywords to try on google?) Is this located somewhere near cognitive
science, psychology, human factors research?
For example, some specific questions I have are:
