XP Pro client cannot access stand-alone linux samba server
Hi, I am trying to set up my internet connection sharing linux box as a stand-alone samba server. When i try to access the server from a Windows XP Pro client using \\192.168.0.1 i get a dialog box asking for a username and password. I duly enter this and the dialog box immediately re-appears without connecting me to the share. There exists both a samba and linux account with the same

SAmba 4.9 and Win XP Clients
In the process of upgrading my whole samba setup. I've setup a server as an active directory controller, I created a stand alone member server, I've gotten win10 to join the domain and drive mapping via group policies seems to work with win 10 clients. I still have a few winXP clients that have usefullness. They seem to connect to the domain ok, but they can't see any of the

Thanks. Will check. I should have added that everything was working fine on the old winNT style samba domain setup. Its something related to the new samba AD setup On February 17, 2019 8:17:03 AM EST, Rowland Penny via samba <samba at lists.samba.org> wrote: >On Sun, 17 Feb 2019 07:51:24 -0500 >Marco Shmerykowsky via samba <samba at lists.samba.org> wrote: > >> In

win2k/xp clients cannot copy files after samba upgrade
I have a linux server that I'm preparing to migrate our samba services to. It has been running as a stand alone server and I intend to set it up as a PDC - we have another old system working as a PDC now. Because of some problems during samba testing (quite awhile ago) I decided to upgrade the samba version running on the server - the original packaged samba was 3.0.20 and I downloaded

Samba 'stops' access to a file
I am running Samba on Solaris 2.6 and am connecting to it from Windows NT4.0. Whilst running some Access software the database is initially accessed without problem but part way through processing I get the report that the database file cannot be accessed since it is exclusively opened by another user. I cannot then read the database at all until I log out of Windows then back in. All is

XP SP1 Clients wont print to Samba / Cups Server
Hi All, I have gained my basic Linux / Samba knowledge from using SME server (www.contribs.org) More recently I have started to use Trustix Linux to build servers for specific things for example as a print server. I installed Trustix and the most recent Cups/Samba rpm's from the repository (I am pretty sure they are the latest stable releases) but I can check version numbers if this helps.

Samba works only with ROOT & Samba Client can't access Windows XP Shares
I just started learning to use Samba. I just have the default shares it starts with. When I try to access them I can only use the ROOT account to do it. How can I use my normal account, that I have on the system, to access my shares from another networked computer? The other computer is running Windows XP and I setup shares on there as well. When I browse for host I can see it but it wont

File access rights and usernames from Windows XP client
Hi, I have recently set up a small network containing a Debian Samba 2.2.3a-12 server and Windows XP pro and Windows ME clients. The Linux box acts as a domain master, and this seemingly works flawless with XP. However, I'm having trouble getting writeaccess and translating the usernames on the XP client to the corresponding ones on the Linux box. What I'd like to accomplish is this:

Problem mapping to public share from XP
I have a stand alone RH ES 3 server which handles student email and a home directory for each student. It is not linked to the Active Directory side of my house and it does not need to be. No student accounts are in Active Directory. They exist solely on this Server. I am running Samba 3.0.4 (The upgrades after this have caused problems with how I create accounts and set passwords) Within

Guest Share Access Fails for Win XP Client
Hi, I'm trying to set up a transfer area between my RH9 box and my WXP box. Preferably no password would be required on the WXP box, but I'll take anything after the ridiculous amount of time I've spent on this. If anyone can help I'd really appreciate it. At this point I'd be willing to offer my first born child as a reward. And I'll throw in my mother in law free. :)
