getent passwd problem
Hi,
I am having a weird issue with samba where once a week approximately at the
same time users will lose connectivity,
if i run
wbinfo -u all users are displayed
wbinfo -g all groups are displayed
However running getent passwd only shows local-users, no remote users are
shown..
To fix the issue I have to change the name of my idmap config and restart
samba and winbind and everything works

winbind and samba 3.3.9
Hi,
We have a small cluster of 4 webservers running iis 7 (windows 2008 64 bit)
with an AD domain controller and a samba server.
Recently we have had issues where a webserver will randomly lose the network
share, the only way to fix this is to restart winbind or samba,
When we restart winbind this fixs the problem with the server in question
however each of the other web servers servers lose

Winbind fails to refresh Kerberos tickets (3.0.25b - Fedora Core 5) - 2nd Try
This is the second attempt at sending this. Apologies for any duplicates.
I've got Winbind up and running to authenticate our users against our AD
and to save kerberos tickets. I have used the "winbind refresh tickets =
yes" setting expecting this to renew these kerberos tickets before they
expire. This does not appear to work. Gnome will pop up a dialog box
saying that the

Samba 3.0.33/3.2.15 AD joined slow initial connect with LDAP backend
I'm hoping someone can help me with the following. I currently have 2
Samba fileservers version 3.0.23d joined to our corporate Active
Directory. Clients currently are Windows XP. I'm asked to prepare to
migrate XP to Windows 7. From testing it looks like Samba 3.0.23d is not
compatible with Windows 7. Therefor I started testing with the latest
RHEL5 version 3.0.33-3.1e.el5 on RHEL5.

BODY { font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:12px; }Hi,
I've seen many people complain about this error message by Googling
around, but I've never found a satisfactory explanation as to the
cause and resolution. I'm hoping someone on the list will be able to
point me in the right direction?

winbind initialization: GetDC got invalid response type 21
Hi all,
I'm running Samba 3.0.28 on CentOS 5.1 as a PDC. I'm having problems
with winbind taking a long to initialize or reconnect to the domain.
For example, starting winbind and then checking the trust secret takes
~30 seconds:
# time /usr/local/samba/bin/wbinfo -t
checking the trust secret via RPC calls succeeded

RPC fault code DCERPC_FAULT_OP_RNG_ERROR
I'm testing out a new Samba setup to hopefully replace my aging Win2k
domain. I've got some of it working:
- My PDC (shadow) seems to be working on the CASA domain with an LDAP
backend.
- nss_ldap and pam_ldap are working on shadow
- I can run wbinfo -u and get the user info from LDAP on shadow.
- I can run wbinfo -a username%password and authenticate a user on shadow.
I can run

3.0.25a && rfc2307
I'm receiving the errors listed below. It also seems unable to map the root
user uid 0 with this filter. That's not that big of a deal.
Wbinfo -u and -g return output but getent passwd does not. This is Ubuntu 7
using debian packages.

Problem with Samba-3.0.25rc3 & idmap_ldap (winbind dumps core)
In an effort to improve my lot, I'm trying to move to a ldap backend
for idmap synchronization when I deploy the new 3.0.25 version on my
systems. In preparation for this, I've set up some test systems --
where I'm having some problems that I think others may be
encountering (according to a few comments I've seen recently).
In a nutshell, I believe I have set up my ldap

idmap ad group lookup
Whe have a Active Directory with the SFU2307 Unix extensions running.
The user authentication is running fine against the Active Directorty, for this why are using the "ad" idmap backend.
The only problem that are not running is, that "getent group" are only shows the local linux groups and no Actvie Directory Groups with a GID.

winbind normalize names = yes disable winbind cache mechanism and cause LDAP heavy load / poor performances
Context :
client linux Ubuntu 12.04 SSO authentification against Microsoft 2008 AD
server, Winbind 3.6.3 (Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, Linux 3.2.0-27-generic, winbind
2:3.6.3-2ubuntu2.3 )
I'have discovered that setting option "winbind normalize names = yes"
cause winbind client to send LDAP search for each username/group
resolution even those in cache. Setting this option to

"net lookup sid" fails to get user's domain
When I run the following "net lookup sid" command, I get:
# net lookup sid S-1-5-21-1908027396-2059629336-315576832-12220
S-1-5-21-1908027396-2059629336-315576832-12220 1 (User) \fhess
This is wrong in that "\fhess" should be "NIST\fhess". The other direction
works fine:
# net lookup name "NIST\fhess"

DFS not working on Win XP
Hello,
a heave a share on a samba server 3.6.3 that is used as a DFS-Root.
The DFS Links a working on Client with Windows 7 but not on Windows XP clients.
Searching on the internet gives me a hint that it can be a problem with "security = ADS".
The Samba server is member of a windows 2003 R2 Domain, and the Unix user info (uid, gid) are stored on the domain in der RFC 2302

Cannot browse domain user list with 3.3.9
Hi,
I am trying to upgrade Samba from 3.3.2 to 3.3.9 for Win7 compatibility
issue.
It is running on Redhat 9.0 (I've planned to upgrade to Centos 5.5 in a
second setp) and without any ldap backend (tdbsam actually).
As I have already done in the past for upgrading, I have done the following
procedure :
1) Compile 3.3.9 . My configure option are :
./configure --with-acl-support

FARFON lives!
Some of you have been following our progress on
http://farfon.convergence.com.pk as we blundered our way through the
development of a low-cost ethernet IP phone that does IAX and augments the
client options currently available for the kick-assterisk server.
With help from the denizens of #asterisk and kind words of advice from Mr.

Problem with ADS idmap backend
I'm running Samba 3.0.28a on a CentOS 3.9 box as a member of an AD
domain whose PDC is a W2k3 server (Standard x64 R2 SP2).
Using wbinfo -u and wbinfo -g I can see domain users and groups from
the CentOS box, but getent (passwd|group) fails to display them. The
nsswitch is setup correctly, as far as I can tell. When I tail -f the
samba log file during a getent query, I see that winbindd is

Attempting a trust between Samba and Windows AD DC
Hi all,
I didn't have much luck getting SSSD to work so I'm currently testing out
the following:
Built a new member server from source on Ubuntu 16.04. I used the following
./configure statement:
./configure --enable-fhs --prefix=/usr --sysconfdir=/etc
--localstatedir=/var --libdir=/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu
This seems to install nicely onto Ubuntu and puts everything in the right
