Subject: recognizing netbios name
I have a Fedora 10 Linux system connected through a

Linux computer seems unable to present a netbios name to
the rest of the network. The Linux computer can read
files from all of the Windows computers, but the windows

samba BDC + LDAP slave Referral errors
We use sambaPDC + LDAP
On our BDC we have a replicated ldap slave.
Everything seems to work fine.
Hower, in the smbd log file we have the following messages (only on the
BDC's)

[Follow-UP] samba BDC + LDAP slave Referral errors
hi,
i see the same error message with samba 3.0.14a and OpenLDAP 2.2.23
(Debian Packages) with Master/Slave setup.
i did not set up a referral to the master, so why does samba get a
referral when attempting to write to a slave? is this an in-build samba
feature? do i have to enable referrals to get this to work properly?
any advise is appreciated!
thx!

Very slow transfers to Samba on Ubuntu
I mounted a samba volume on XP. XP and Ubuntu are connected over 100Mbps
ethernet (router).
I am writing a 4GB file from XP to Ubuntu and the transfer is extremely slow
: only around 1-1.5 MB/s.
This is not a network or disk issue since at the same time this transfer is
gonig on, I can scp the same file from XP to Ubuntu at 3-4 times faster
(around 6MB/s).
What could be wrong? Even for this

Problems with userPassword when it's base64 encoded
I'm switching from OpenLDAP to the newly released Fedora Directory
Server (formely known as the Netscape Directory Server) as a LDAP
backend for my Samba domain.
I'm now faced with a problem regarding how Fedora DS handles the
userPassword field.
Unlike OpenLDAP it encodes it in base64 so instead of reading
userPassword: {SSHA}0lP+r3Z1NVan7Caf4CG9oSgnTbQRrv/p
it reads:

smbldap-useradd -w problem
I'm in the process of learning Samba and evaluating it as a possible
replacement for Windows NT servers in our office next year. I have set up a
small test network comprised of one NT 4 (SP6a) Workstation, one Windows
2000 Pro (SP3) and one Fedora Core 3 running samba 3.0.11 as a PDC. I'm
using LDAP as the passdb backend with smbldap-tools 0.8.7-1. The Windows
2000 Pro machine can join the

ldap passwd sync only
Hello
I have exactly the same trouble as described here:
http://www.nabble.com/ldap-passwd-sync-on-3.0.25a-tf4261008.html on
samba-3.0.25b-2.fc7.
When i set "ldap passwd
sync" to "only" and I change password on some ldap samba
user, password in attribute userPassword is never changed by samba daemon
(to update NT and LM password I use smbk5pwd overlay). If i set pwd

W2K with Samba 3.3.2 problem
Hi,
We've had a problem using Samba 3.3.2 and windows 2000 workstations sp4.
After many tests, it was discovered that when the netbios name has an hyphen
the windows 2000 workstations don't see the groups on the samba domain, but
when the name is changed for one without hyphen the error doesn't occur.
How to reproduce the problem?
- Configure samba 3.3.2 as domain controller
- Fill

Samba 3.0.24 handling LDAP responses incorrectly
Hey list,
Recently I've gotten my Samba PDC to successfully use an OpenLDAP
backend, while using the smbk5pwd and ppolicy overlays for OpenLDAP.
However, Samba appears to incorrectly handle responses from LDAP's
ppolicy overlay, even though it very clearly receives them. If I enter
in a password (be it through Ctrl+Alt+Delete or when a password expires
and the user is prompted at logon)

Changing password from Windows
Hello,
I have a working samba (2.0.7) server (Debian GNU/Linux 2.2)
configured with security = user, but NOT domain. The clients are
Windows 98.
I whish windows users to be able to change their password
without logging on the server (unix account on the server are
disabled). I tried from the Password applet of the Control
Panel, but I was able only to change the password stored on the

3.0.7/LDAP/referrals...
AIX 5.2 OpenLDAP 2.2.15 Samba 3.0.7 (no winbindd)
I've got a stupid problem with referrals that I can't seem to ferret out.
Each Samba DC has a localhost-based LDAP replica for scalability (my
idea anyway). So the only way they will talk to the Master is if there is
need for an update. Ok.
If I make the updatedn the same as the rootdn of the replica, it updates
the local database;

passdb/pdb_ldap.c LBER_USE_DER undeclared
Hi all,
I can't succeed to compil samba-3.0.20b on a solaris 10 box with ldapsam
parameter.
The configure is ok:
./configure --prefix=/export/zoe/samba-3.0.20b --with-pam
--with-ldap=/usr/local/openldap-2.2.26 --with-ldapsam
--with-krb5=/usr/local/krb5-1.4.3
but when I try to do the make I have the following error:

SA_RIGHT_USER_ACCT_FLAGS_EXPIRY, which I am in the process of trying
to find out the semantics of. The source code apparently makes no
reference to it in any way to elucidate its meaning.
At this point I don't have much insight, the involved flags are things such=
as

#define SA_RIGHT_USER_SET_ATTRIBUTES 0x00000020

Problem while log on: Windows Server 2008 R2 in samba domain
Hi,
I have a strange problem with a Windows Server 2008 R2-System as a member of a samba domain (Samba-Version on PDC: 3.4.12).
Join was successfully, but when I log on Windows I got an error "Unknown user name or bad password." (Event ID 4625).
Here an abstract of logfile for Windows Server 2008 R2-System (log level 10). Maybe some of you has an idea:

password changing errors
For several versions now, we've been unable to get password changing to work
*without errors*. Now management would like to see it working fantastic so
that we can age passwords, but without errors. No matter what I do, I get a
couple of errors. The first time I try to change from a 7 letter password
to '#1password', which should be complex enough for any rule, I get:
