Sorting directory lists (again)
Hello list, I know this has been discussed before (June 2007 looks to be the most recent time), so apologies for covering (sort of) old ground. The lowdown is that samba uses readdir to get its directory listing and this is returned in whatever order the filesystem sees as appropriate (using ext3, it seems to be related to mtime). I have a device which accesses a share using CIFS and presents

3.0.7 - NT Create AndX Response, Error:, QUERY_PATH_INFO, Error:
<earlier, David Rankin wrote to no avail:> Mates, I have been watching a developing problem over the past few weeks. Most likely a M$ patch to XP that has caused problems. What happens is that XP clients try to open the standard "File" -> "Open" dialog (like in word, or whatever) and the file open dialog hangs and stops responding for 15 seconds or so. I have

WinXP3: NBNS query: non-exist; Wireshark: "'NB ?'<00>" & "'NB ?'<20>"
I'm getting some odd queries from a WinXPSP3 client to an older samba (3.2.0-24) Domain & File server running on linux kernel (2.6.27.19). The client seems to be querying for a netbios name <literal-question mark> followed by binary 0 (<00>) to the DomainServer, or Broadcasting the query with the '?' followed by a space <20>. This is from conversation over wire

protocol question
I'm trying to understand odd behavior in my LAN. I'm running Samba 2.2.5 and trying to run it as a PDC. I have 1-2 win98 clients, 1 XPSP1 client, and 1 Win2kSP3 client. I've managed to add the XP and 2K machines to the domain successfully, but still haven't finished configuring logins to work correctly -- something about my user not having permission to write to

SAMBA replies SAM LOGON request from different ip alias
Hi all, we have got 4 Samba Servers. All BDCs for "MYDOMAIN", except by SERVER3 that is a PDC. All of them have 3 physical Network interfaces, from which 2 are used by samba. Each of them has a several ip aliases, except by SERVER1 which has only primary ip numbers on its interfaces. When I try to join a new Windows client (XP SP3) to the domain. It asks our wins server for

name query returning all ip addresses for server instead of primary one
Our server is multihomed, and I've been finding that sometimes clients doing a NetBIOS Name Service (NBNS) query to our samba server sometimes end up getting and using one of the non-primary addresses. I used ethereal to look at the actual NBNS response from the server and notice that all of its ip addresses are listed, with the primary one first but all the others as well. I guess the

Does this tell me anything? Traffic report
I'm trying to get Samba up and running and having a terrible time. It says that I should be able to run nmap and see that 137 and 139 are open - which they are not. I have not added any restrictions in smb.conf, do not have a firewall running and I have increased the log level to 5 to see all of the messages. It says that it is talking on 137 but it kind of looks like it's not talking

samba server does not appear in network neighborhood
Hi all, I've recently setup samba 2.2.5 on a solaris 8 workstation and configured it to be a member of an NT domain. Everything is working correctly, with the exception that the samba server does not appear in the network neighborhood of the rest of the PC's in the domain. However, if you choose to "search for computers" and enter the netbios name of the server it is

NT4.0 + SP3 reports can't NetServerEnum from DMB using Samba
Dear Ladies and Gentlemen, I am writing to ask your help with a problem whereby 3 NT4.0 + Sservice Pack 3 servers frequently log (in their event lists) that the browsing service cannot get the list of domain resources (the reply to NetServerEnum2) from the master browser (when the boxes are functioning as backup browsers). The situation is :- . NT machines browsing on both NetBUEI and NetBT

couldn't find DC from other subnet
Hai , I am new to samba . I would like to setup samba as DC for my local LAN. I have configured samba-3.0.7 in Mandrake and win2k clients(within the same subnet) are able to login to this server by using NBNS protocol. But the clients from other subnet are not able to find the DC. My understanding is that, first the clients try to find the DC using NBNS and they couldn't get any response

Server 2003 Domain Controller Search w/ Workgroup Setup
Hi, I hope someone might understand the problem I am seeing. I will simplify the setup that I have which reproduces the problem: 1) Computer 1 is running Server 2003 with 2 NICS. One is a "WAN" link with IP address 192.168.1.12. It has a "private" link with IP 10.0.0.12. 2) Computer 2 is running Centos OS 5.1 with 2 NICS. "WAN" is at 192.168.1.11,

Re: Win XP 'Network path was not found' Error when connecting to Samba s
Sorry, for the resend, but I found out another piece of information that may be helpful. I did a Ethereal check and then tried accessing the Samba Serve from my XP box. The Linux box got 3 NBNS Name queries on the Share Sambaserve and the response from the linux box was a ICMP saying Destination unreachable. Then 3 more NBNS broadcasts for the name query which Linux did not respond to. Thank

Multiple Netbios name queries on ports 32944, 33169 and 33171
I've had to set up an iptables filter to drop packets originating from ports 32944, 33169 and 33171 on a samba 3 server as broadcast 'storms' lasting ~3seconds have intermittently been taking down all net communication. Can anyone shed any light on this? The packet capured in ethereal is below. Lee Baker Sorry for not trimming - not sure what's important: No. Time

NetBIOS wildcard queries repeated by wireless access points
I am trying to resolve a problem with NetBIOS wildcard broadcast queries being relayed/repeated by around 50 US Robotics wireless access points. The APs only re-broadcast wildcard queries from our samba3 server - our numerous windows 2003 servers do not appear to use wildcard broadcast queries (if they do, they are not causing the same problems). Any help would be appreciate as this problem is

samba 3 keeps trying to authenticate with the nt4 pdc using port 445
Hello, I'm running redhat enterprise as 3.2 with the included samba 3.0.2-6.3E. I'm trying to make this a domain member server in a nt4 domain. I've successfully joined the domain only after using the net join -p 139 option to force samba to use port 139, otherwise it kept trying to communicate over port 445. (I was watching the syn packets with tethereal). Typing wbinfo -g comes

Windows 7 samba 4 domain join problem
I stood up a samba 4 (4.0.9) Active Directory domain controller on a Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.3 server, configured in accordance with the Samba AD DC HOWTO <https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Samba_AD_DC_HOWTO> , and tailored to the domain name I want. I'm trying to join a Windows 7 Enterprise Edition client to the domain. Windows responds with "Your computer could not be joined
