UID - high need to lower it for a test user - active directory auth
Hi Guys, I am having some problems with Active Directory users using a bit of software on our server, my AD users are authing via Winbind this works fine and the only difference I can see between a local user and an AD user is the fact the AD user has a MUCH higher UID, how can I create a user with a low UID to test this? I don't want to change them all yet as it might not be this that

moving from nt4 to active directory
I have 2 AIX systems that run Samba. We are currently on an NT4 domain and moving to Active directory. I am trying to find out what all would be needed to make that transition. The only authenification is for users connecting to their shares. I read one site via Google that states I need to create a user (Rocky) on both Samba and the AD server with different passwords but this does not seem

Backing up Xen DomU''s - Tape Drive - LVM
Hi, I am planning the roll out of a Xen dom0 running CentOS that is going to be running two DomU''s CentOS and Windows 2003 SBS. I am planning on using LVM for the disks as this (so i have read) increases i/o performance compared to image files. I need a solution to back up these machines and I have came up with the following two ideas: Idea 1, Backup the machines as images (lvm

Problem with users (authing over Active Directory) not being about to run software, but local users can.
Hi Guys, I have a CentOS box running with Active Directory Authentication via winbind and that is working fine. When users login for the first time their home dir's are created in /home/%DOMAIN%/ which is also working fine. Now, they have installed a bit of commercial software on the CentOS server which works fine for all the local users but not the users logging in via Active Directory

Apache auth failing for Active Directory group members
On my web server, I have a .htaccess file set up to restrict access to a folder for specific Active Directory users. The Active Directory domain is imaginatively called "AD". Using 'require user ad\brian.cochrane' in .htaccess works great. 'require group "ad\domain users"' also works. However, 'require group "ad\_it"' does not work. The

[Fwd: Apache auth failing for Active Directory group members]
I sent this message to the list yesterday, but I believe it was before I had fully joined the list...so I'm not sure if it got through. My apologies if this is a repeat. How do I tell winbind to always send kerberos pre-auth to Active Directory DC
Hi List, I have reported this issue before but I did not get an answer, ill try one more time before I register it as a bug incase I am doing something wrong. I'm evaluating the use of samba/winbind to join our linuxhosts into active directory. My testsetup use win2k3 R2 with rfc2307 schema fields populated on the server side. For the most part the project is humming along nicely. However,

Samba/winbind with Active Directory auth
Hi List, I'm installing a Samba server with the intended purpose of serving files to Windows users with seamless authentication on the smb server. For that, I've been reading and following every single google search result regarding the subject, but it seems I'm stuck at some point where other people are not blocked ... To summarize, I have these commands OK: # kinit admin_user at

Active Directory group membership changes not reflected in winbind information
Hi, I?ve added an existing group (?2d3d?) to an existing user (?jschopp?) on our AD server. When I execute ?id jschopp? the new group membership is not reflected: # id jschopp uid=1333(jschopp) gid=2020(dom?nen-benutzer) groups=2020(dom?nen-benutzer),610(BUILTIN+users) This is a strange behavior. Is this a caching issue? Kind regards, Martin AD: Windows Server 2008 RC2 with Windows Services

Query re winbind, primary group enumeration from Active Directory and Services For Unix
Query re winbind, primary group enumeration from Active Directory and Services For Unix I am wondering if anyone can explain to me how the GIDs work when using winbind to extract them from an ADS server. I have Unix servers running AIX 5.3 ML-10, an ADS server running Win 2003-SP2 with SFU 3.5 installed. I have been configuring the Unix servers as domain members and using winbind to extract the

winbind name service required for active directory (ADS) authentication and group-based authorization?
Hello Samba Gurus, Is using the winbind name service required in order to get authentication AND authorization via ADS? I'll explain further. Goal: create samba share for which clients are authenticated via native ADS and access is based on ADS group membership. I've actually done this in the old Windows NT world. Worked okay. It's wasn't too hard, except for the winbind

Better way to count Active Record Data?
I am trying to get hourly counts of orders between different price ranges from my database. I''m thinking there has got to be a better way than looping through each record and checking if the created_at time fits between hour 1, 2, 3, 4, etc of the day and then returning the count. Currently I am displaying just a total of the days sales that are between different dollar amounts this

Active directory, winbind, and distribution groups (as opposed to security groups)
Greetings, This is about a samba installation plugged on Active directory. I would like to bounce on : http://lists.samba.org/archive/samba/2005-January/099472.html I understand distribution groups are not "real" groups, as Unix people mean them. Distribution groups are, by design, only related to mailing lists, or so. My question is pretty simple : Is there a way to list the

Is there have simplest way to make domain users which in remote desktop group can remote/local logon the workstation ?
What do you want: User should logon remote to windows workstations or do you want a remote login to your server? For remote logon on windows workstations you need a group policy linked to the ou of your workstations. As far as I remember - I don't have a AD at home - you will have to create a new group e.g. GGX-Remotedesktop (abbreviation for Group Global Execute). This group will become

Solaris, Winbind and Active Directory Authentication
We have not worked with Solaris much, and our contract Solaris guy has very little experience with Winbind. So, we are like two blind people touching opposite ends of the elephant and trying to come to a solution. (No comments please on which end I drew...) :-) The question involves authentication in a native mode Windows 2000 Active Directory domain. Is there any reason Samba/Winbind
