Samba 4.4.16 %g translation fails for some users
Hi all,
Just migrated users to a samba 4 server on built on Solaris 11 samba pkg. Some users are mapping all required drives (G:, H:, and I:) but some are not able to map them. The affected users user log files indicate that the %g variable is being translated to '-1' instead of the users Unix group.
I would welcome any feedback or suggestions on how to resolve this issue.

Unable to join domain
I am attempting to have a Samba3-0.10 server join an NT domain with no
success. Samba has been installed (./configure --with-syslog
--with-acl-support) on a SunFire V240 with Solaris 9 as the OS.
>From what I've read if the machine account exists on the domain then I should
not have to provide a password. I am however being prompted for a password

Problem with "force create mode" et. al.
Hi, folks. I've got a weird situation here. I'm sure it's something
small, but, well, either I've been cursed by a witch doctor, or my
eyesight is getting too bad to find small problems.
Either way, I'm more than willing to be pummeled for asking such a
stupid question, as long as it helps me get it solved.
I'm replacing an NT file server with a Samba box (hooray!).

RHEL6 implementation running slow
I am running Samba 3.6.15 on a RHEL6 server. The server has been joined
to the campus AD.
The complaint I am getting from users is that this is much slower than
other, earlier versions of Samba. We have older versions running on
both RHEL4 and RHEL5, but this version on RHEL6 seems to be running much
slower.
One thing to note is that I had first installed and had Samba 4
working. But,

name_query failed: Samba 2.0.3
I'm stumped on getting Samba to work again on our small network. I've
got one Windows 95 machine that started to refuse to talk to Samba last
week. I *was* running one of the 1.9.18 releases, but when it stopped
working, I figured I would delete the old release and do a clean
install of 2.0.3. I've done that, and used SWAT to configure the
smb.conf file (which can be seen below).

All works except MS Office 2003 Pro navigation of win . shortcuts to shares
Hi,
That 4. a.m. periodicity is logrotate restarting your samba in order to
rotate it's logs...
The "Processing section..." appears everytime a new smdb starts ( every new
client connection to server, samba restarting, etc).
If you want to force it, just restart your samba. Remember that windows
caching may get in the way. So if you really want to be sure, restart also

Intermittent failure
Hello.
I'm in need of some help to shed some light on a strange problem.
The box is running Samba 4.1.7 on FreeBSD 9.2/amd64 and I suspect
(though I'm not sure) all troubles started after the upgrade from 4.1.6.
The setup is quite simple: no AD, no LDAP, only one server.
A command as simple as "smbclient -U user //SERVER/SHARE", if fired up
several times in a row on the

Multiple daemon log files.
Hi there,
Been around Linux a while, new to Samba, know nothing about Windows.
Installed Samba on vanilla Debian Lenny, the package manager gave me
Samba 3.2.5, and it didn't work. Searching revealed that there are
problems with that release so I tried a source install. Never did
like Debian-out-of-date-and-patched-to-hell stuff anyway. The source
install default locations are everywhere

samba inconsistent printing behavior
Hello all. I've set up a Samba server on a Sun E280 box running Solaris 8. The
server is part of a domain. I am having some problems printing. I can setup
the printers on the Windows NT workstations using the Add Printer wizard.
However, when I try to print I get inconsistent results. After installing the
printer the workstation has to be restarted (sometimes more than once) before

After update to 3.6.1 -> smbd dies often ? massive brl and lock database cleanup scheduled log entries
Hi !
We updated our NT4 domain-server samba from 3.0.27a to newest available 3.6.5 version this weekend.
I've done various testing in a VM to make sure that everything is working under 3.6.5 and it all seems to run well.
After updating the live system to 3.6.5 the following log entries occur really often, but users don't have any noticable problems.

Domain member (2k8R2) server, problem mapping Kerberos/NSS users
Hi list,
I'm trying to set up a simple fileserver (Samba 4.1.6 on Ubuntu 14.04)
as domain member, which delegates user authentication to AD (2k8R2) via
Kerberos/NSS ? SSSD without using Winbind.
I have SSSD up and running and things like
getent passwd some-domain-user
getent group some-domain-group
chown some-domain-user:some-domain-group /tmp/foobar

I'm having a problem with files locking so that every time the are
opened up they are opened as Read-Only. Windows doesn't see them as

saved or deleted.
I've included a log, my smb.conf, and a getfacl of a user's home

Samba 3 Unable to join domain
I am currently running Samba 2.2.8a in a production environment on a Unix
box with Solaris 8. I am hoping to migrate and upgrade to Samba 3.0.10 on a
Solaris 10 box. I am however having difficulties joining the NT domain with
my new (still test server).
Initially I provided the administrator with the ip address and the netbios
name of the samba server so that a trust account could be created.

ssh authentication issue
I am trying to ssh from one samba server (linux OS) to another samba server (Solaris OS). The keys and authorized_keys files are set up correctly with proper permissions but I keep getting prompted for a password. Has anyone had to deal with this before? Any suggestions for resolving would be appreciated.
