Fwd: Vista laptop in Samba 3.3.4 domain suddenly trying to use roaming profiles?
Paul, Thank you very much for your information. I, too, had noticed that the ProfilePath and CentralPath values could be altered to point to the proper local path, and that technique at least fixed the immediate problem. Unfortunately, further review of my setup has revealed a very frustrating migration issue that I had not yet realized. The issue is very subtle and very frustrating, but I believe

roaming profiles for XP RPO Vista 2000 and automounted home directorys
Background on setup Here is some basic background of my setup I have 3 domains setup running over a IPSEC tunnel over the Internet with one PDC BDC and some file servers at each location all running samba (I am sorry I do not have the version number in front of me for samba) from SUSE enterprise 10 using the LDAP backend. There is a trust setup between all the domains and the IPSEC tunnels is

Vista roaming profiles...
Hi everybody, after many weeks of searching/trying, I still can't manage to get vista to use/save roaming profiles with samba as PDC... It has apparently worked a few times in the beginning since the profiles directories are populated. Could it be related to a Vista update or SP1? Here's what I did so far: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\System]

Help needed with Windows7 roaming files.
Hi all, We've been trying to setup/upgrade a samba PDC (version 3.56) with OpenLDAP as backend and roaming profiles for Windows7 (32bit) Clients. windows7 has no problem with login after applying the reg patches, however, it seems to always load a temporary profile as opposed to roaming one for users, no local profile is created. this has caused Outlook 2010 to function improperly

roaming and local profiles on same domain
I have samba 3 configured and running fine as a PDC with LDAP as the back end user database. I have most users using roaming profiles but there are a few I would like to be able to only have local profiles. Is it possible to configure samba to use both types of profile rather than one or the other. I have the profile path set on each user account in LDAP as the field

Windows Vista roaming profiles "access denied" forced local profile (samba PDC), but Windows XP OK
Hello, I'm having an "Access denied" issue using roaming profiles for Windows Vista Ultimate RTM (patched to current). The actual login is successful, the full name is set properly and the password is handled correctly, however only a temporary profile is created. The interesting thing is that all else being the same, I do not encounter the same issue for Windows XP roaming

Vista roaming profiles
Hi All, I've happily had Samba (3.0.24) operating as DC for my Win2k/XP network for years. I've just upgraded to Vista and eveything seems to be working fine (shares, domain logons) apart from roaming profiles. Just after logging on, the following error appears in a bubble from the system tray: "Your user profile was not loaded correctly! You have been logged on with a temporary

Vista won't copy roaming profile to server
Hello, fresh installed Samba 3.024 o Debian system as PDC with roaming profiles. Vista only creates user.V2 in [profiles] but not copy profile after logoff. Directory is writable and XP works good. Any ideas? Thanks. -- View this message in context: http://www.nabble.com/Vista-won%27t-copy-roaming-profile-to-server-tp21910084p21910084.html Sent from the Samba - General mailing list archive at

profiles reverting from local to roaming
Hello, I have a shiny new RHES4 box running Samba 3.0.10-1.4E (as included in the Red Hat distribution) which is set up as a domain controller, using openLDAP and the IdealX scripts. User PCs are Windows 2000 and XP. We would like to avoid roaming profiles altogether, so we set "logon path =" and "logon home =" (with no argument to the right of the equals sign) in smb.conf.

Roaming Profile problems
Hi, we are using samba 3.0.10-17 with openlddap 2.2.6-37.22 as backend. We use roaming profiles, but because of problems with different operating systems and the profile size, we want to use locale profiles. I tried to change logon path in smb.conf in an emty string, but no changes, if I delete this entry in smb.conf, samba use a default value and this is on the server. So I tried to change

I have it configured as a PDC, and all the roaming profiles work, the management, etc. it's all fine. now, the client that I'm working for, told me ( after some days of making it all work ) that he sees that the use of roaming profiles in his network is useless. ok now, he says no roaming profiles ! I have searched around the network

temporary profiles problem - don't want roaming profiles
I have a Samba PDC (Ubuntu 12, OpenLDAP 2.4.28, Samba 3.6.3), and at two remote sites, I have some Samba BDCs. For now I've manually entered the DCs as WINS servers on the workstations I'm using for testing. At the remote sites, I can log in with an account that has no logon path or logon home specified, and it works perfectly. But at the main site, when I try to log on to one of these

Samba Domain and Vista Profiles
Hello. I've googled around, but I couldn't find anything really like my problem. I've got a newtwork with a Samba PDC and BDC (both running 3.0.25 on FreeBSD with ldapsam_compat backend). Everything works fine with Windows 2000/XP with roaming profiles in //PDC/user/profile (it even worked with 98 back when there was a few), but now I had to add a Vista Business laptop. This joined

Is there a way to support both local and roaming profile with one server / domain?
Recent list messages got me thinking... Is there a way to support both local and roaming profile with one server / domain? As I understand it, the "magic" line that tells Samba not to do roaming profiles is the smb.conf line: logon path = Which the line must exist, and must be set to null. But that is in the global section. So is there a way to support both local and roaming...

Laptop and local vs roaming profiles/users
Hello, When a notebook joins a domain, it creates a new (roaming) profile for the domain user. XP sees this user (Domain\User) as someone different from the local user (Hostname\User) which existed before. Is there a way to reconcile these two personalities, while keeping the profile as roaming, so the user can both use different computers in the domain with his roaming profile, and also use

recommended procedure for mandatory roaming profiles for win7 with samba 3
Hello, I have a PDC and a File (member) server for homes and profiles (Samba 3.4.17). For XP clients I have mandatory profiles with all user shell folders redirected to their respective home share. Now I'm adding win 7 clients to the mix and I want the same thing. It's (almost) working but I think my procedure is a bit dirty (i.e. I use "windows enabler" to build my ntuser.man

Problem with roaming profiles
Hi After changing from samba 2.2.7 to 3.0.rc2 I can't get roaming profiles work. Clients Are W2K and XP. I've also switched from smbpasswd backend to ldap. Logon path is only set in smb.conf, not in ldap. Storing of profiles is working but it takes very long. I've tried logon path = \\wilma2\profile\Win2K and \\wilma2\profile. But the clients are always storing profile in
