Samba 3.025 wbinfo checking the trust secret via RPC calls failed
I have compiled Samba 3.0.25a from source on a Solaris 10 machine. I
had previously been testing Samba 3.0.24 (from packages on

this is a clean setup, not an upgrade.
The server is configured as a PDC for my domain "SAMBADOMAIN"

Samba PDC + OpenLDAP + Samba BDC
Hello everyone,
the time for me to use a OpenLDAP server is getting closer ( :( yikes..I'm
still scared sorta) ,
I currently have a Samba PDC with tdbsam with 50 users goes fine, our
company will grow (doing our best)
in this year by a minimum of 25-30 computers, and I've stuided the TOSHARG ,
and it says that for every
50 computer a bdc is suggested.
The questions :

can connect to 2 samba servers by name but to one by IP only
I have a samba domain with a Samba 3.4.x PDC (compiled from source on
Solaris 10) and two Samba 3.0.x BDC's (Sun-bundled Samba on Solaris 10.)
XP clients use DHCP. When on the LAN, DHCP includes WINS server (the WINS
server is one of the Samba 3.0.x machines.)
We also have a VPN for remote client access for Windows XP machines. XP
machines could include home PC's (not in the domain)

Does the BDC need to "join" a domain?
If I configure a samba PDC and then a samba BDC, do I need a machine
trust account for the BDC?
That is, do I have to run "net rpc join" on the BDC?
Or manually create the account for the BDC in LDAP?

List windows clients/machines in network list (win 7)
People,
some of the machines of my network aren't been listed in (Windows
Explorer - Network icon).
I made a research and I found the following:
- try to activate some services:
SSDP Discovery;
UPnP Device Host;
Function Discovery Resource Publication.
Note: this situation happens with machines that were joined to the domain
and with others that weren't added to

PDC/BDC Problem
Hi all,
I'm rather new to samba and trying to deploy a PDC/BDC Setup for our company.
Got some books and the manpages here to help me :)
The config-files are attached at the end of this mail. Used Samba is 3.2.7-11.6
on a SLES11 system.
The PDC is running as ROLE_DOMAIN_PDC says testparm, the BDC as
ROLE_DOMAIN_BDC.
Both DCs use a LDAP (OpenLDAP 2.4.12-7) for user authentication.
The LDAP

Upgrading from 3.0.37 to 3.5.9
I am upgrading from 3.0.37 to 3.5.9 on the same server and need some advice. I am running Solaris 10 on a domain server that services 10 XP and Win 7 clients. The existing Samba directory structure is not standard. I believe the engineer who built the Solaris install transferred all Samba 2.0 directories from the old server to the current server and then created additional directories for the

FW: making BDC samba + ldap server
Is this Samba 3 or Samba 4?
If samba 3, which ldap server are you using>
What is the mail server? Does the mail server have its own LDAP server
included it or is also using an external LDAP server.
If you want replication between LDAP servers, they should be the same type
of LDAP server (e.g. OpenLDAP or Apache Directory Server or Oracle Directory
Server.) If you have one

Samba WINS issues over VPN
I am running Samba 3.4.8 as a PDC on Solaris 10. I recently made this
the WINS master- previously the BDC (Samba 3.0.37 on another Solaris 10
server.)
I also use Sonicwall ipsec VPN for remote access (Windows XP clients.)
The sonicwall client creates a virtual NIC on the client so that the
client can have an IP address directly on the company LAN (ie. the same
LAN as the samba

NT Domain Integration
This is probably a frequent problem, but I haven't been able to find an
answer.
I recently installed samba 2.0.5a on Sun Solaris 2.6 server. There is only
one share on the server that I want to be accessible. I have set up the
share using the following smb.conf file: (obviously, the specific info has
been changed).

xp clients can't auth after reboot without smb restart
I currently have several fresh installs of XP that will connect to shares,
but will not reconnect after a workstation reboot. These are workstations
that are not joined to the domain. Only accessing shares from a local
profile, but using the same user/pass to login as to connect to Samba. I
get various errors at that point.
Upon reboot, attempting to access the share generates:

PDC, BDCs - how do you synchronize roaming profiles?
Hello,
I'm about to deploy Samba PDC and several BDCs.
As far as I understand Samba and domain logons, this means that a user
will be able to log onto any server, with his workstation choosing a
domain controller that is probably the closest/fastest etc. one.
As a consequence, this also means, that on each server there has to be a
copy of a profile of a given user, right?
If so, how can

nss_winbind.so delivers first group only on Solaris 10
Hello,
I'm trying to integrate some of our Solaris 10 10/09 hosts into Microsoft AD running on 2003/2008 R2 servers.
After some compile trouble I finally managed to get the whole thing running including winbind in nsswitch.conf
for users and groups and PAM for authentication.
The problem is that winbind only reports the primary group of an AD user. 'wbinfo -r aduser' only reports

Samba 3.0.23d
Good Morning
I am looking to download the Samba 3.0.23d binary for Solaris. When I go to the area that is set up for binaries, there is nothing under the Sparc folder. Is there another place I can get the binary?
Thanks in advance for your help.

WINS names intermittently unregister after 5 days
Hi,
(I posted this question about 6 months ago and never really got anywhere
with it so I thought I'd try again.)
We're using Samba as a WINS server. Windows servers appear to correctly
register themselves and I can look them up e.g. with nmblookup.
However some servers lose their registration after 5 days. And it's the
same servers, about 4 (of about 25 servers and 200

everyone who sent in log files to get this fixed)
- various modes tested and confirmed as working:

encrypt passwords = yes
domain master = no
domain logons = no
