Authentication issues with Samba 4.3.8
Hi Rowland/All,
I have tried upgrading our Samba from 3.0.28 to 4.3.8. I didn't wanted to remove my old working version, so I just stopped my samba service and installed new version.
I have overwritten the new smb.conf with our existing smb.conf and tried restarting with the new startup scripts.
4.3.8 is having three startup scripts smbd, nmbd, winbindd and I tried restarting all of them.

There was an HL demo, downloaded from Sierra, that was a completely new
episode - more like a taste of things to come. I enjoyed playing it, even
after I had finished the full game, but was a little disappointed with the
ending of the demo. Can't complain for free, though.
I suggest you go and buy the 'battle pack' or whatever it's called - HL,

Authentication issues with Samba 4.3.8
Hi,
The users are created locally, each user have their own workstation. The workstation id and the unix id are different.
Users will try to access the share with the unix local account only.
All the VM's are part of domain, so users will first login to their stations using domain id and then will access the share using unix local id. Thank you.
Regards,
Krishna

Authentication issues with Samba 4.3.8
Hi Rowland/All,
I want to sync the local /etc/passwd to smbpasswd database in Aix. Can someone please help with any tools or scripts available to proceed further.
Setting up a domain level user for all the samba users is tough for us right now.

Krishna

nmbd fails to start - permission denied
Hello all,
I have a new RHEL5 host, with nothing installed that falls outside of
the Base package group (that I selected) plus the CUPS 1.2.4 and Samba
3.0.28 packages.
All I've done to date on this host is perform yum updates to installed
packages and set up configurations for Samba and CUPS.
Once all of that was in place, I started up Samba via the Red Hat
startup script, but

Authentication issues with Samba 4.3.8
Hi Rowland,
Sorry I missed your previous mail.
Our servers are not having any ldap or AD for authentication. It is using tdbsam option as password database, and yes all the users and groups are stored locally in the /etc/passwd and /etc/group.
I will try removing the "encrypt password = no".
Below is the whole old smb.conf file.
bash-4.2$ cat /usr/local/samba/lib/smb.conf

Winbind/AD/NFSv4: can't `ls/cd` private directory?
Hello everyone,
We have a CentOS 6.3 NFSv4 server and client, and we've run into a situation where the client is unable to list "private" (chmod 700-ed) directories, even if the current user owns the directory in question.
A bit more background: we're also using Samba 3.5+Winbind to provide authentication and UID/GID mapping against a Windows 2008 R2 domain controller.

Looking for AIX Users of Winbind -- Authorization and SSH Problems
Hi all,
I've got Samba with Winbind working on AIX 5.3 and 6.1 fairly well with
Active Directory 2003. In fact, I'd say short of 2 very important services,
it's working almost perfectly. Unfortunately, these 2 services are quite
critical, and without them I'm afraid we'll have to resort to some sort of
proprietary identity solution like Novell, which I'm not crazy about.

CVE-2017-7494 patches
Hi Rowland,
Thanks for the update.
The setup we have is unaltered from long time. Now we are asked to install the patch for CVE-2017-7494, since we are not running the affected version its fine for now.
But can you please let me know what are vulnerabilities in 3.0.28 and any patches available for it. I will try to update it to the latest version on our dev servers first.
Moreover we have the

Authentication issues with Samba 4.3.8
Hi Rowland,
Thanks for the help.
Could you please let me know what would be the passwd database if I update my smb.conf.
I have created the user locally and in samba using the steps given by you. And it seems it's working fine.
The authentication is successful, but I was wondering why it was working in earlier version without adding user in samba database.
I'm having around 100+

samba 3.4.2 centos with ldap 2.4.11 stucks - The workaround
Hi!
As I said, I the smbd daemon stucks if you use Samba 3.4.2 on CentOS 5.3
with ldap 2.4.11.
(You start the smb daemons, then you have to wait a few minutes before
the daemon states "waiting for connections" and then after you try to
connect to a network share the daemon stucks" - all that behaviour when
you use the local ldap)
I found a workaround - if I use winbind nested
