Solaris nss_ldap vs PADL nss_ldap
Hi All, Any thoughts on why, while everything seems ok at the OS level (getent , id -a ) Samba doesn't pickup any supplementary groups when Solaris is configured with 'group: files ldap' in nsswitch.conf and using it's own native nss_ldap.so.1 but does when using PADL's nss_ldap? Everything else is equal. Do they use/accept different calls or could it be an

udevd can't reach LDAP-server during boot
Hi! I'm using CentOS 5.1 (x86_64) machines which authenticate using LDAP. At the start of booting I get messages like this: udevd[1158]: nss_ldap: failed to bind to LDAP server ldaps://ldap.server.example.com/: Can't contact LDAP server udevd[1158]: nss_ldap: reconnecting to LDAP server... udevd[1158]: nss_ldap: could not connect to any LDAP server as (null) - Can't contact LDAP

Multiple samba servers with LDAP
I was wondering what the best practice is for setting up several SAMBA servers in a SAMBA domain all on the same LAN. Here is what I am looking at PDC: LDAP, Samba, nss_ldap, pam_ldap Member1: Samba, nss_ldap, pam_ldap Member2: Samba, nss_ldap, pam_ldap Member . . . . Should I set the member servers up with: Security = domain and join the severs with net rpc join or, whould it be better to set

dovecot-auth leaves zombies
Hi all, I have installed and configured dovecot on two different machines, so I don't have much experience with this server. One installation is giving me serious problems, that I have a hard time tracing. From the beginning: the machine is a debian mix (stable/unstable) dovecot 0.9.11, real users authenticated via pam_ldap/nss_ldap. It serves ~70 users, all of them using Outlook, Outlook

"nss_ldap" make fails on Slakware 12.1
Hello people, My difficult is get "nss_ldap" compiled and running on my server. I download the tgz file from PADL Software Pty Ltd website, decompress/untar, and then run "./configure" . ./configure runs just fine with no error message. Things go bad when I type: make This is the output after I try to do "make": root@ldap:~/nss_ldap-262# make make all-am make[1]:

Mysterious new problem: nss_ldap: could not soft reconnect to LDAP server
Suddenly as of this morning, none of my users can authenticate to samba because nss_ldap is producing cryptic errors. Nothing has changed on either the LDAP server or the Samba server. Looks like this in /var/log/messages: Aug 11 11:19:29 edgar smbd[8394]: nss_ldap: could not soft reconnect to LDAP server - Server is unavailable Yet, the LDAP server IS available, and happily chirping away

Problems with nss_ldap - where to start?
I've been unsuccessfully trying to get nss_ldap to work. I've chased down hundreds of google searches over the last 3 days, and I can't seem to get a centos system to authenticate against ldap. Every daemon on the system is running into the same problem: nss_ldap: could not search LDAP server - Server is unavailable sshd, nscd, httpd, you name it.. slapd is clearly running, telnet

Installing port on FreeBSD
New user trying to get a port to compile: I tried searching but all I get are links to the FreeBSD port of puppet. Easier to find a needle in a haystack. A class has: exec { "port-sudo": cwd => "/usr/ports/security/sudo", environment => "BATCH=yes", command => ''/bin/sh -c "/usr/bin/make

Issues with Dovecot/Pam/nss_ldap
Hello all. I have experienced an unusual behaviour from dovecot which I believe to be related to some interaction between dovecot and nss_ldap/Pam. Centos/Postfix/mbox(es)/Openldap/dovecot. The box is using PAM with ldap, and is also running BIND, SAMBA, and DHCPD. Dovecot 1.0rc2 from source. I left dovecot at the default, to use PAM for authentication and guess the mailbox. This worked

Samba PDC & ldapi://
I've seen several references on the web to setting up the LDAP SAM to communicate with the LDAP server via ldapi (IPC) verses ldap (IP). This should theoretically much faster. My LDAP master is on the same host as the Samba PDC. With nss_ldap using "uri ldap://localhost" and Samba using "ldapsam:ldap://localhost/" everything works. But changing nss_ldap to use

Can only login as root
I have a strange problem on a CentOS-5.8 machine. I can only login as root. If I try to login with one of the user's names, it hangs for a long time. I thought it hung forever, but I just found that I do login after "su tim" after 5 minutes. It seems that the problem lies in repeated messages in /var/log/messages --------------------------- May 3 12:14:13 helen su: nss_ldap: failed

CentOS-5 - Suffering from LDAP experimentation
I was playing aeound with the GUI authentication configuration and was called away from my desk after I had configured the LDAP DC entries but before I had tried to start the ldap server or do much of anything else. When I returned the terminal session was screen-saver locked and entering my user password did not make it respond. I kept getting a time-out error. Rebooting took forever and was

User database ldap lookups and sasl
Hello I'm currently trying to use Active Directory with Unix extensions to store UID, GID and homedir and retrieve them with ldap I don't want to allow anonymous bindings and I would rather not use TLS and manage a PKI. So I'm trying to use SASL to do a Kerberos authentication for Dovecot against AD LDAP. I'm currently getting GSSAPI errors about the lack of "credentials

IDMAP: migrating from a single PDC to a PDC and some Member Servers
Hi, I am migrating a Samba 3.0.28 ( Slackware 12.0 ) that is a single PDC, to a PDC with domain members and/or BDC. This single PDC is plugged in a central switch and I have a lot of computer's rooms, in different ethernet segments, all them using switches and routers to reach this PDC. ( Something like this: PDC -> central switch -> router -> switch -> workstations )

slow logon with many ldap groups
Dear all, I'm having some problems with my samba-ldap configuration. The server is a domain controler. Most of the time there is no problem. But when some users try to logon, the workstation gets very slow. After some testing i found the cause. When a user is a member of many ldap groups (more then 64), i get the following error: "smbd[32384]: nss_ldap: could not get LDAP result -

Samba & NSS_LDAP
Hi all! A while ago I caught a discussion re Samba and LDAP SAM backend, with OpenLDAP and nss_ldap. It seems that the reason the smbd process keeps crashing (and thus losing connections) has something to do with the fact that the LDAP standard allows connections to be unilaterally closed by the directory server, and this was causing Samba to crash. Again - this is my hazy recollection of the

Strange issue with Samba + LDAP + Domain Member
Hey, I keep posting but no replies yet, this is a new issue, the rest I seem to have fixed. I have an odd issue: * When I do net rpc join the PDC creates the account, and puts it into LDAP, which looks fine. * I then can access the domain and winbind works fine from the Domain Member server. * On the PDC I see the following error: "pdb_get_group_sid: Failed to find Unix account

LDAP authentication via PAM
I've configured dovecot to authenticate against a Fedora Directory Server. The mail server on which dovecot is installed has the nss_ldap and pam_ldap packages installed, and /etc/dovecot.conf has the following two lines: auth_userdb = ldap /etc/dovecot-ldap.conf auth_passdb = pam In other words, I want dovecot to use LDAP to access the user database, but PAM for authentication. This part is
