Printer drivers on a samba 2.2.8a server: how?
I'd like to set up my samba 2.2.8a server to serve printer drivers to
clients when needed. I have set up the print$ share, in which I still
have no drivers. Tried adding drivers from a win2000 workstation by
using "server properties" command, I can't add anything since all
buttons are greyed out. The user I am using is in the printer admin
group in smb.conf. I

How do I remove printer drivers from print$
I have done a foolish thing and I would like help undoing it!
I have managed to add drivers for all of the printers on my Samba server,
using the "Add printer driver wizard."
They are in print$ (/usr/local/samba/printers/W32X86)

but they are Wrong!

Unable to enable Add/Remove Printer Drivers (3.0.0)
I used to be able to load printer drivers via "server properties". Now
when I go in the printer drivers are listed and I can use the properties
button but the Add/Remove buttons are greyed out. This is a Samba
3.0.0/2.4.2-SGI_XFS_1.0 box and I've tried both NT4sp6 and Win2003beta
clients (both exhibit the same behaviour).
I see the following in the log when I connect to

Problem changing settings on printer driver
Hi,
I've run a Samba server happily for some time now, and all my users are
printing via it. The printing works like so:-
User prints from application on an NT4 workstation to a Samba printer
Samba picks up job and hands it off to LPRng
LPRng directs job to the appropriate network printer.
The printer drivers are installed on the local machines, and automagical
driver download is *not*

New HP Printer Drivers wont upload (samba 3.0.11)
Maybe there's a trivial solution to this, but it's confused the hell out
of me.
I'm trying to upload the latest Windows XP PCL6 driver for our Laserjet
4250TN to my Samba 3.0.11 server. It works, and uploads the driver
files, but then at the end it produces an error on the XP client "the
operation could not be completed". The logs on the samba server state:

Can't upload printer driver from property sheet.
No matter what I try I was unable to upload the drivers to my samba
machine from the property sheet. I don't get any error as I don't even
get the chance to press 'New Driver'. I followed the
Samba-HOWTO-Collection.html to the letter (or so I beleive). But
everytime I get the the "Advance Tab", the "New Driver button is greyed
out. However I can modify

Printer Driver Delivery - Printing Preferences Error
Hello everyone,
I've got a Xerox Work Centre 5735 that I'm printing to via Samba. When I install the drivers on a client (using the right-click-Connect method) from the samba shared printer then the install goes smoothly but I can't load the Printing Preferences dialogue for that printer, I get an "Operation could not be completed" error. This same error does not occur

Canon multifunction printers / samba 3.0.2a / AIX 5.2ML2
Hello,
I have problems setting up a canon multifunction ir7200. When I print the
windows test page, I have something like "smiley" "arrow" "arow" "smiley"
"arrow" name_of_the_samba_spool "smileys" driver.dll etc,etc,etc, on a
single line.
Did somebody used such a multifunction with Samba ? Below is a (long)
description of what I did.

Samba 3, Windows 7 and printer drivers
Hi,
With Samba 3 and Windows XP, it used to be possible to install he
printer drivers on the Samba server, so when an XP workstation joined
the domain, it would find the printer drivers automatically.
Does such a functionality exists with Windows 7? 64 bits? 32 bits?
Thanks in advance,
Olivier

Samaba 2.2.7 and windows printer driver woes
Greetings, all,
I have a fresh install of Samba 2.2.7 on a Solaris 9 machine. Stand alone, not
part of a domain. Testing with a stand alone Windows 2000 professional client
with service pack 3 installed.
I am having problems setting defaults for the installed printer drivers and I
have been unable to load Win98 drivers to go along with the W2k drivers.

Selecting Samba Printer Port
I have a strange problem here. I have a network of Windows NT and XP clients that print to printers shared by Samba.
When I double click on the printer icon, the queue opens and it says in the title bar, "Initializing", then "Failed to connect, Retrying".
I was able to resolve this on Windows NT by created "Samba Printer Port" as a local port. Unfortunatly in

W2k/w98 don't see printers on samba-3.0.0beta2/3 in "Add Printer" dialogue
Hello,
I've tried both samba-3.0.0beta2 and beta3 but
both give me the same problem.
When on a windows dekstop and trying to add
a printer with samba as the printserver , the
printers exported by the samba server are not
seen by the windows "add printer dialogue" e.g.:
relevant part of smb.conf:

Getting Windows XP drivers from print$
Hi list
I have two very similar printers set up on CUPS and Samba is configured
to share the drivers. I had been playing around with setting up a RAW
printer queue with native Windows drivers but eventually gave up on
that. I deleted all printers and redid them from scratch and now only
one of them works.
Setup:

Problem with automagic Windows drivers
According to the Classical Printing document, I should browse to the
printer share, right-click, choose "Properties", and say No to the
question about adding drivers. Then, at the properties window, I'll be
able to add drivers. But I can't... drivers are greyed out.
The doc suggests that I use smbclient to tell if the connection is "set

Wide open (security = share) w/ printers including driver download success story
Hi-
I wanted to share my experience w/ the list in getting a completely wide open
file and printer (w/ automagic driver download) with security = share setup

My requirement was to setup a server for a small office of XP boxes w/ file and
printer sharing and had always done samba as domain controller w/ full logons
etc. No need for any security in this setup and I wanted to have the

No Printer Port
Hi,
I am having problems adding printers to Windows.
The printers are setup on a Samba 3.0.2a server running on Solaris 9 and
using CUPS.
When I add the printer to Windows it seems to install OK but no printer port
is added.
The "Comment" and "Location" fields in the Windows printers box are also
empty as though it isn't talking to
the Samba server.

Nobody who can help use with this issue?
A developer already began to fix it 3/4 year ago, but never created a patch
that finally fix the whole problem.

Adding Printer drivers with rpcclient
Hello.
I'm having issues trying to add printer drivers using the rpcclient
I've got the drivers for one of the printers in the appropriate share,
but every time I've tried, I get NT_STATUS_UNSUCCESSFUL
So far I've put the drivers under W32X86, W32X86/2 and W32X86/3, to no avail
Every time I run the adddriver command, I receive the
NT_STATUS_UNSUCCESSFUL, and in the debug
