Possible / probable bug: "net ads dns register" does not remove stale IPv6 AAAA records
Hi, I'm experimenting with setting up winbind and so forth on a simple system joined to an existing AD domain and I've seem to run into some rather broken behavior with DNS updates. As everyone knows, Active Directory is heavily dependent on DNS and it's good to make sure that the DNS records for each system joined to the domain stay up-to-date. So I'm testing to make sure that

disable dns update with net ads join
I saw a few posts from a few years ago regarding adding an option to net ads join to disable dns updates ie, net ads join --disable-dns-update Was this ever added? If not, is there any workaround for this? My clients are going through a list of 18 name servers and it's taking forever.

net ads join disable dns update
We have a couple oracle RAC servers that we install samba/winbind on. These servers require multiple NIC's / IP's. The problem is when we do "net ads join" it updates windows DNS and really screws us up because seven IP's get put into DNS, all tied to the same host, including the interconnect IP's which oracle insists needs to be 169.254.x.x addresses. Because of the

Can I use net ads join without DNS
Hi Samba people I'm trying to join a Solari10 server using Samba Version 3.0.33 server to an ADS. But the ADS is not in DNS. I thought I could get round this by putting the ADS IP in the servers local hosts file, and telling the krb5.conf not to use dns but it doesn't seem to work. 1. Can it be done ? 2. If it can how ? Output of my net join ads, still seems to be using DNS [root at

net join & DNS
Is there an option to the net command to not have it update DNS in AD? We are joining servers using the net ads join command and it's changing our static DNS entries to dynamic ones which then get deleted when AD does its DNS scavenging. It seems that dynamically updating DNS is the default. The command we're running is: net ads join -U adminuser%adminpasswd Thanks - Mike Mike

net join ads gives segmentation fault
Hi, We have been working with samba 3.0.4 and MIT 1.3.6 on SUSE SLES 8 (SP3) for some time. We use security=ads and our samba is joined to the W2K3 domain. We use this with winbind to use the authentication from w2k3 instead of local users (telnet, squid, samba and via smbauth also apache). When preparing a new server with suse SLES 9 and heimdal 0.6.1 RC3 (suses package) we started running

net ads join fails with pre-created machine accounts
Hi folks, we have recently tried to join several FreeBSD machines to your forest where the machine accounts where pre-created by the core admin team. We did as root: # kinit 'machine-name$' # net ads join ... Unfortunately, it failed with an error that several attributes cannot be set which are available to domain admins only. It ultimately means that one cannot use pre-created

can you automatically add a DNS entry when using "net" to join AD
I looked through the net man page and googled with no luck...I was wondering if it is possible to have a DNS entry created for the machine I add using "net ads join" without me having to manually add it to the DNS. -- Cheers, --Lucas Machado

adduser is contacting the AD server?
Hello, I'm just wondering if someone stumble upon this. We are trying to create a local account but it looks like the adduser script is contacting the AD server for some reason and saying that the user "already exists" when it doesn't locally. Is there a way to disable adduser to contact AD or something similar? Thank you. [root at server01~]# adduser user01 adduser: user
