DC priority, BDC prob with domain groups
I have the following setup: PDC: Samba 3.0.37 on Solaris 10 BDC1: Samba 3.0.37 on Solaris 10 BDC2: Samba 3.4.3 on Solaris 10 Samba 3.0.37 is the bundled version of Samba. Samba 3.4.3 is compiled from source. BDC2 is a recent addition to the network. All machine use LDAP as the backend for everything. They use winbind to handle a domain trust with another domain, but otherwise

"add machine script" when using samba + ldap
Hi, I'm reading http://samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-HOWTO-Collection/samba-pdc.html , http://samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-HOWTO-Collection/samba-bdc.html and http://samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-HOWTO-Collection/domain-member.html and I'm still not quite sure... If I set up a network with one samba 3 PDC and a few samba 3 BDCs, all pointing to the same OpenLDAP server and

selective disable_plaintext_auth
Hi, I've been using dovecot for some time now, always with the setting: disable_plaintext_auth = yes so that no user can accidentally expose their username/password in the open. However, I'm now trying to configure a webmail client in a nearby server which doesn't support TLS or SSL IMAP connections :-( Is there any way to allow plaintext_auth only for a small set of IP

using ldap only idmap
Hi, I'm trying to make a "pure ldap" setup, whereas users, groups, id mappings and everything that is supported with LDAP be in the LDAP tree and managed directly by samba. That is, I'm using: ldapsam:trusted = yes ldapsam:editposix = yes And NOT using smbldap-*. My smb.conf is here: http://wiki.clueless.com.ar/SambaLdap/smb.conf-PDC I created the LDAP tree root

samba (vs. nfs) in all unix environment
Hi, I'm sorry if this is a very FAQ, I've been googling around and searchin' the list archive and I'll gladly accept RTFMs with somehow precise URLs (including URLs to the list archives). I'm on the drawing board (no equipment yet) for a server farm that will have a SteelEye linux cluster behind to provide (among other services) with networked file access. The setup is

multiple attribute templates?
Hi, I've been using an attribute template for some time without any problems. My accounts are on an LDAP server and I have an attribute maildropPath which is the maildir path for the user relative to /home/vmail That is, user "mabsatz at example.org" has, in attribute maildropPath the string "example.org/mabsatz", meaning that the maildir is in

documentation bug?
Hi, I'm thoroughly RTFM'ing in order to find out what I'm doing wrong <http://lists.samba.org/archive/samba/2009-October/thread.html#151046> and I noticed that links from the *Samba-HOWTO-Collection* to the *manpages-3* don't work... the problem is that both documentation sets are on different directories but links don't include a path (nor absolute, nor relative).

samba & unix group permissions problems
Hi, I'm having permissions problems connecting to a share when the gid of the directory shared is not the primary group of the user connecting to it. Maybe I faced it the wrong way, but I did read (and at least thought I understood) the 'File, directory and share access controls' section of the howto [0]. My users have either one or another 'primary group' (the one set in

SID of member server in Samba domain (smbldap_search_domain_info: NT_STATUS_UNSUCCESSFUL)
I have a domain with Samba 3 acting as PDC, and using LDAP (passdb backend = ldapsam). I now wanted to add a second Samba 3 machine as a simple file server. I get errors with getdomainsid and getlocalsid, so there is obviously still something wrong with my config. The PDC runs Samba 3.5.6 on Debian Squeeze. Sid queries return: # net getdomainsid SID for local machine MY_PDC_HOST is:

Classic Upgrade changes domain SID
Dear samba experts, I did a classic upgrade from a Samba 3.6.14 samba NT4 DC to a Samba 4.18.2 AD-DC. It does not work and I just want to make sure that I have the correct understanding of our domain SID. On our old Samba server net getdomainsid shows: SID for local machine SERV00 is: S-1-5-21-1415314133-2460755331-2761616138 SID for domain NAV is: S-1-5-21-1415314133-2460755331-2761616138

I'm getting "Maximum number of mail processes exceeded" messages when 512 imap Processes are active. Dovecot reports: Warning: fd limit 1024 is lower than what Dovecot can use under full load (more than 1712). Either grow the limit or change login_max_processes_count and max_mail_processes settings But in my /var/service/dovecot/run script I use: #!/bin/sh mkdir /var/core chmod

Samba 3.025 wbinfo checking the trust secret via RPC calls failed
I have compiled Samba 3.0.25a from source on a Solaris 10 machine. I had previously been testing Samba 3.0.24 (from packages on www.sunfreeware.com) and have reused the smb.conf file. Otherwise this is a clean setup, not an upgrade. The server is configured as a PDC for my domain "SAMBADOMAIN" I created a samba password for the local root and administrator accounts. I joined the

XP Joining Samba Domain
I have successfully joined the XP machine to the domain. The strange part is, that it only wanted to be joined if it connected to the PDC and not the BDC. The way it is set-up is that the XP machine and a BDC is in one branch and the PDC is in another. Every time I would try to connect via the BDC, it would return a value ACCESS DENIED I stopped the smb service on the BDC, and got it to

ldapsam:editposix & add machine script
Hi, small question here... if I have all users, groups, machines and idmaps in LDAP and I set: ldapsam:trusted = yes ldapsam:editposix = yes then I *don't* need an "add machine script". Am I correct? TIA -- Mariano Absatz - "El Baby" el.baby at gmail.com www.clueless.com.ar

PDC -> BDC Question
Hi Everyone, I was wondering I am setting up a BDC at another physically separate location on a different subnet, and I am currently working on what files I need to have copied between the computers and which need to be made on each server. The specific question I am dealing with is what TDB files I need to replicate filesystems between the two servers. Below is a list of what the files I

SambaSID's on PDC/BDC
I have a server acting as a PDC, and another server acting as a BDC. When I run 'net getlocalsid' on each, they return different numbers. If I run 'net getlocalsid domain_name' on the BDC, it returns the PDC's sid. Is it import for each machine to have the same SID? Thanks, Chris

array slice notation?
Suppose I have an n-diml array A and I want to extract the first "row" -- ie all elements A[1, ...] Interactively if I know 'n' I can write A[1,,,,,] with (n-1) commas. How do I do the same more generally, eg in a script? (I can think of doing this by converting A to a vector then extracting the approp elements then reshaping it to an array, but I wonder if there isn't a

When is a machine SID created?
I have been having a problem with 'net getdomainsid' on a machine that I set up to be a BDC. # net getdomainsid Could not fetch local SID tdbdump shows that there is no machine SID in secrets.db, so I'm thinking that I overlooked the step that creates a machine SID. What creates the machine SID and when? Also, is it the hostname or the netbios name that samba uses as the machine
