Samba as fileserver on Active Directory domain
Hello,
We have a Gentoo box running Samba and is a member of the Active
Directory domain. This Gentoo box will be a fileserver when everything
is completed and setup as it should. I want our users to login to their
computer (Computers are all members of the same Active Directory domain)
using Active Directory accounts/domain for authentication. I am using
Winbind for Active Directory

Fwd: Re: Migrate NT domain 4 to samba
I tried "net lookup dc" and samba PDC did not show.
The NT machine we have has been shut down and not functional
anymore. Right now, we only have one linux box with gentoo running samba
and we want it to be the PDC.
Thanks,
-Ivan

slow tint when tinting the whole screen
Hi,
I'm running ubuntu edgy with compiz, switched from gentoo to ubuntu
for faster updates (emerge is way slow with source builds..). So far, I
like it.
but that is not the issue I'm addressing now. I've noted that with
both these machines, when I'm doing something that tints the whole
screen to gray (like trying to logout, or using some software that

I have setup my gentoo samba server as a domain member server of a
windows 2003 Active Directory Domain using winbind.
I am able to see all the users and groups with wbinfo -u and wbinfo -g

'Getent passwd' and 'getent group' return local and domain users and
groups.
My problem is that when I login as a domain user, my prompt

Baldur's Gate slow after upgrading Linux Kernel
I'm running wine 1.1.2 on Gentoo Linux.
When playing at least Baldur's Gate I and Baldur's Gate II with Linux 2.6.21 kernel it does run smoothly but changing the kernel to any newer version does the game to run slowly.
I have been checking the config of both kernels, and I have tried to get the same in them. I have a GF 6600 GT and nvidia 173.14.09, but I don't think it's the

Winbind idmap & Active Directory
Hey all,
I'm running the latest and greatest CentOS4 here, along with Samba and
Winbind coupled to an Active Directory server. It's all working smoothly,
bar one little bit, the idmap gui and uid directives. It appears to be
ignoring them completely. I've pasted the relevant directives below...
winbind separator = +
idmap uid = 10000-20000
idmap gid = 10000-20000

Samba (winbind) integration into an Active Directory domain
Hello,
I have an existing Active Directory domain with a couple hundred
users. I am trying to setup our Linux (Gentoo specifically) servers
to allow "seamless" login integration at the console, via ssh and
possibly using smbmount.
I think I've got it pretty close, but seem to be missing something.
When my test user logs in, a home directory is created for them, the
console throws

Samba working in Active Directory .config's included
I'm struggling just as much as the next person on this setup. Although;
I do have it working under Mandrake 9.2 with Samba3.0.pre1.
Perhaps we can work together and figure out what is different between
setups.

OpenSSH and Kerberos / Active Directory authentication problems: Credentials cache permission incorrect / No Credentials Cache found
Greetings,
I'm working on the infrastructure of a medium size client/server
environment using an Active Directory running on Windows Server 2003 for
central authentication of users on linux clients.
Additionally OpenAFS is running using Kerberos authentication through
Active Directory as well.
Now I want to grant users remote access to their AFS data by logging in

Audio CD problem
Hello
I just downloaded a great program called Transcribe (to slow down music
so you can learn it) available at http://www.seventhstring.demon.co.uk/
and it worked smoothly and without problem through Wine on my Gentoo 1.4
laptop. The problem is that the program wants to open .cda files to
access the CD tracks and I don't know about a way to mount audio CDs in
Linux. I could of course rip the

Samba as fileserver in an Windows AD Domain
Hallo,
I tried to setup a SuSE10.2 with samba 3.0.23d (but the same trouble with
SuSE11.1).
I got a valid Kerberos Ticket and joined successfully the domain (with net
join).
Users and group are displayed with wbinfo -u / -g . I could also verify
accounts with wbinfo -a user%pass.
When I tried to access the shares, the dialog apears to give the
credentials. It doesn't matter what you
