smbd does not run from inetd
Hello, I've a problem with Samba version 2.0.6, where smbd does not start from inetd. nmbd starts from inetd and "smbd -D" works fine as well. And I didn't have that problem with 2.0.4b. The following is an extraction of the smb.log, which shows an "read_socket_data: recv failure for 4. Error = Invalid argument" error. Regarding this problem, what is the difference

Winbind Troubles... string_to_sid: Sid S-0-0 is not in a valid format.
Hello! I posted before, figured I'd try again and provide more information in the original post. I'm running samba-3.0.22-1.fc5, joined to a W2K3 domain. All features appear to work - I've been running it this way for a month. This message appears not to actually affect anything, and it occurs every 30 seconds or so. I'll be happy to post my configs, if necessary. This set

3.0.23 and group behavior
Okay, first the admisssions: I'll admit that I haven't been following the development as closely as I probably should have. And I'll admit in this case I might not be using Samba in the most efficient way possible. Also, I'm not 100% sure if I'm encountering a bug or just a seriously stupid misconfiguration issue. And I'm still collecting data on exactly what happened.

string_to_sid: Sid MYDOMAIN\mygroup does not start with 'S-'.
I've been struggling for almost 2 weeks to get Samba working on two new servers. When I try to open a Samba share from a Windows 2003 computer, I always get a logon challenge. I always get the following lot message [2008/11/13 16:05:06, 3] lib/util_sid.c:string_to_sid(228) string_to_sid: Sid MYDOMAIN\mygroup does not start with 'S-'. [2008/11/13 16:05:06, 2]

Power Law Exponents
I am having difficulty with the calculation of the power law exponent for set of nodes within a graph. Specifically, I am interested in the distribution of in-degree and out-degree among communities of web pages where the web pages are the nodes of the graph and the hyperlinks the edges. According to the literature, the distribution of incoming and outgoing links obeys a power law distribution

How to mount NT share & maintain NT share permission via SMB for LTSP user??
When a regular user (say, "jmc") logs onto my Linux (LTSP, Samba, DHCP) server via his LTSP terminal I need an NT drive share to be mounted with the permissions that NT intends. Our NT file print server has a directory named "private" which contains subdirectories for each user. Each user has NT read/write permissions to his/her private subdir and no others. I need for each

Using +<group> in "valid users" is not working
Hello to all, I have recently upgraded to SAMBA 3.4.2 on Solaris 10, and reconfigured it to use domain authentication (security = domain). We slapped guest authentication on most shares, with an explicit "valid users = ...." on a small number of sensitive shares. Due to the number of users we were looking at, we set up two UNIX groups "payroll" and "payoff" and

win32-security, 1.9.x, encoding issue?
Hi, Windows Vista Home Premium ruby 1.9.2dev (2009-07-18 trunk 24186) [i386-mswin32_90] I noticed there was an ordinal bug in win32-security and Ruby 1.9.x. I fixed those easily enough, but now we''re left with this: 1) Error: test_string_to_sid(TC_Win32_Security_Sid): ArgumentError: invalid byte sequence in US-ASCII
