FTP accounts
Hello,
I have setup a centos server running 5.5 and I have a problem with the FTP
settings.
Currently I have two FTP accounts based on that server, they lead to:
/home/bella
/home/carmen
Currently the FPT accounts starts in the home directory when they are logged
in. But they are able to see all directories on the server. What can I do to
make sure they cant come out of there home directory?

Opening a file in mode "r+" or "r+b"
While using the file functions have found a few more issues (on both Unix
and Windows) ie
R documentation:
In the "close" description (base package) we see that the possible values
for the mode 'open' the "r+" and "r+b" values are repeated, and are
incorrect the second time. The second set actually corresponds to the "w+" /
"w+b", see

ssl_min_protocol = TLSv1.3 does not work
Hi all,
I'm trying to set up my server with support for TLS 1.3 only, but that does
not seem to be supported.
First off, TLS 1.3 itself does work fine, so it's not the config or ssl
library, and 1.3-only works fine with Postfix. The problem is only in
disabling TLS 1.2 for Dovecot.
On connection, I'm getting an error that 1.3 is an "Unknown
ssl_min_protocol setting".

UFT8 String looks great in MySql, garbage in browser
Hi,
I have some seed data in MySql which contains non-ASCII characters (as
you''d imagine as these are worldwide placenames that I''m storing). In
MySql on the command line they look great, they''re all formatted
perfectly, including Arabic and Chinese characters and they look great.
However, when I ask my Rails model for one of these fields, and render
that in the

75 second (5 x 15) between login request and response
Hello all,
It takes about 75 seconds before Samba answers a login request from a WinXP
SP3 client. After the delay the client connects successfully and can browse
the share. The delay seems to be made up off 5 separate delays of 15 seconds
each judging by the debug logs. The delay seems to be caused by a
configuration issue with the LDAP password backend, but I can't figure out

cannot kill smbd processes
Hi there,
A customer of me still uses Samba 2.0.2 and it did work until know.
At the moment we are not able to stop the smbd processes and it is very hard
to gain access to the samba shares (only one user managed)
even when we do a "kill -9 " (noot recommended) the smbd processes are
available.
Does anybody have an idea how to solve this ?
Met vriendelijke groet,

Delta-compression and --write-devices
Hello,
This is my first time posting to this list. I think I might have found a
bug, but I am not sure, so I appreciate any thought you may have.
I am running rsync 3.2.0dev from Git master revision 916faecb with the
copy-devices patch from rsync-patches master revision f22e220b on Debian
10 and I used the Debian build system to build rsync.
I am running the following command:

Windows XP slow with samba-2.2.7 from RH7.3
Hi.
I posted last week a question about a network with some XP PCs.
One PC connects fine to the samba server, but the other one
is quite slow, almost unusable. There are also Win98 hosts
running fine.
Someone kindly answered he had the same problem, and solved it
upgrading to samba-3 beta. I can't put beta software on this
server.
Do I have any other option ?

Strange behaviour with --max-delete option
Hi,
When using --max-delete=NUM, NUM + 1 files get deleted.
Test it by doing this:
# mkdir src
# mkdir dest
# cd src
# touch 1 2 3 4 5
# cd ..
# rsync -avu src/ dest
# cd src
# rm 1 2
# cd ..
( Here i try to sync src and dest, but only delete one file from dest
at the time. This would prevent an accidental rm in src from
propagating to dest. )
# rsync --delete -avun --max-delete=1 src/ dest

Samba 3.0b3 PDC - XP user descriptions
Hi all. I have (another) little question about XP and Samba 3.0b3 acting as
PDC.
When I press CTRL+ALT+DEL in my XP Client I see the message:
",,, has started session as BOOGERSOFT\Boogerman"
(BOOGERSOFT is my domain, and Boogerman is my username).
I also see the ",,," in the top of XP's start menu (when using XP's
startmenu instead of the "classic" start

Filenames apparently truncated when acessing Samba share from XP.
Hi List,
This one is puzzling me. I suspect it is largely due to a badly-behaved
installer, but I would appreciate any help. I'm so puzzled, I'm not even
sure how to explain the problem, but here goes...
I have a Samba 3.0.1 system on AIX 5.2, which a number of XP users connect to,
in order to access an application installed there. The upgrade installer for
said application is causing

Garbage collection: RW1041
Have searched through the archives but have been unable to find any related
issues - hopefully I'm not bringing up an old topic.
Am using RW1041 on a Windows NT on a machine with 1Gb of memory. Have a
function doit() that reads in a chunk of data using readBin, performs a
regression, saves out coeffs and then returns. When using Rgui with the
default memory limit of 256Mb I'm able to

POP daemon
What would be a good POP daemon to use? I know there are a few in the
mail ports. Are they any good?
What I mean by good is 'secure as possible' (is there really such thing as
being totally secure / invulnerable?)
Cheers

trying to simply share a temporary directory in read-only with anyone on the

IMAP and Outlook XP Contacts
I was wondering, does Dovecot's IMAP server hand Outlook XP's contact lists?
I tried to enter a contact on my IMAP server and received an error from
Outlook stating that the Contacts formatting was too complex and thus
couldn't be saved.
I went ahead and swung my box over to MailDir and scrapped Sendmail for
Postfix [for maildir support], I was wondering, would this issue continue?

win xp home media edition / Samba 3.023c
I have an issue where one client machine (out of 10, the only one
running 'xp home media') is being forced off periodically and closing
XP's file browser. It seems to be random. My Samba configuration is a
simple one -- just sharing files, it is not handling authentication.
All other clients work as expected: Log in, for the first time, access
as many times as desired after the

SQLite database file gets corrupted and XP goes blue
Dear fellows,
I'm getting blue screen on XP while populating SQLite database, using
RStudio and RQLite package.
The blue screen says "INVALID PROCESS ATTACH ATTEMPT" before goes into
memory check and reboot.
The database (file) is corrupted and not readable after this happens.
I'm iterating over CSV files, each contans a time-series of as many as
500x5000: rows being dates,
