Home Share Question
HPUX / AIX / Samba 2.0.6
I'm trying and getting frustrated with configuration of the SMB.CONF
file to get the [homes] share to be the only name listed when
users browse to these servers. I don't want to have the share
auto renamed to the user name that is attaching. The SMB.CONF
help file states that this can be done. Can someone please tell
me the SMB.CONF [homes] variables that need

Help configuring Samba-3 to share $HOME directories
I'm looking for help configuring Samba-3 to allow me to share out home
directories from a UNIX host to Windows XP clients so that my Windows
domain users can read and write to their home directories on the UNIX
host.
I've attempted to follow the examples in "Samba-3 by Example" to no
success. I've also followed the tutorial:

Anonymous access to Samba share with Windows XP Home
Hi,
I've searched the HOWTO and searched with Google for an answer to my

I have a Linux box running Samba 3.0.4 and a Windows XP Home box on my
local network. I would like to share the home directories on the linux
box and I would also like a share that is accessible anonymously with
no password.
My smb.conf contains the

[homes] share not created unless linux user has a home directory in /etc/passwd
When adding a domain user to a samba 3.6 PDC I found that the [homes] share
was not created. It turns out there was no home directory specified in
/etc/password for this user. Once a linux home directory was added the
[homes] share worked, but I would expect this to work anyway since a
different path is being used for windows home directories than for the linux
users. Is this expected behavior

homes share mapping problem in samba 3
Hi, I had tried posting this to the newsgroups twice but never got a
response. Please see below...is mapping to \\server\homes no longer
supported in samba 3.0.1 or above? Please let us know; thanks!
The homes share is not mapping properly anymore once upgrading to samba 3.
This works without problems in samba 2.2.8a and 3.0.0. However I have seen
this problem consistently in 3.0.1, 3.0.2,

Can't map [homes] share with Samba 3 configured as PDC
Hi,
I have followed the worked example in the HOWTO documentation for the small Engineering Office which demonstrates how to configure Samba-3 as the PDC for an NT domain.
I have setup a RHAS 3.0 Linux box and have configured Samba as per the instructions in the book.
Using an NT 4.0 client workstation I can sucessfully login as the user grma (It authenticates against the Samba PDC OK) but I

This works without problems in samba 2.2.8a and 3.0.0. However I have seen
this problem consistently in 3.0.1, 3.0.2, 3.0.3 and 3.0.4; if I go back to

others have had the same problem, but no one had found a solution and said

After migrating from Samba 2 to Samba 3 - home share names are case sensitive
Hello!
We have several sun solaris servers which are now serve Samba 3 services.
For 2 weeks we migrate all servers from Samba 2 to Samba 3.
After the upgrade to Samba 3 all shares generated by [home]-section in
smb.conf have case sensitive names.
For example:
Besides root user john exists on the server and has a home folder.
If user john want to access his share with a Windows client he use

Samba AD and the [homes] share
If you read this wiki page:
https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/User_Home_Folders
You will find, under the 'Introduction' heading, these statements:
This documentation does not use the Samba built-in [homes] section that
dynamically shares the user's home directory using the
\\server\user_name\ path. While this can be helpful in certain
scenarios, it has some disadvantages:

share CUPS printer/scanner in Debian system with Windows computers in home network
Hi,
I've been trying to fix this for many months and cannot do it. I have a
printer (Samsung ML-1740) and a printer/scanner (Canon MP-150), both
installed in a Debian AMD64 system via CUPS. I have enabled sharing all
printers in this machine in CUPS, and can print to them fine from other
GNU/Linux systems in the network. However, I cannot even see this
computer from other Windows machines

Sharing out unix home directory via samba
Hello
Sharing out unix home directory via samba. Home directory is /home/%
username% . However, samba insists on sharing this directory as /home/%
domain%/%username% . So a user can see their home directory as server
%username% from windows. But, when they click on it, they get an error
and the samba log says that the share /home/%domain%/%username% doesn't
exist.
Thanks

problems with homes share
Hi,
I am currently setting up samba on a network which on the UNIX side has NIS
user's home dirs under a /homes automount - not quite sure why, but they are
and this I can't change just now.
I therefore need to share the home accounts under a shared samba called
homes, this of course plays havoc with the intended functionality of the
homes share.
I end up with a share called homes which

I cannot figure out from any of the documentation I've seen (so far).
What I would like to do is to share 3 different sets of folders:

Office2000/Win2000 access to samba share problem
Hello all -
I've worked through several google (as well as a searchable samba mailing
list) searches, but haven't found a direct answer to my problem. Some things
seem similar, but not enough for me to quickly resolve my problem.
Overview:
Accessing any Office2000 file from a samba-directory results in explorer (and
whatever Office program was active) to hang. This only seems to be a
