logging in NAS200
Hello,
I'm running SAMBA under Ubuntu 10.4.
At work we share a network storage unit, a Linksys NAS200.
I can see it as a "computer" in my workgroup but once I click on its
icon in Nautilus it is opened as a blank screen. I cannot see the
folders I should have access.
Doing the same in Windows XP I can access these folders.
I use the same username and password on Ubuntu, XP,

I don't want to require my users to authenticate to print
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
Hi folks,
My ancient debian server was running some old version of samba. Any
machine in the network could connect to the LAN, find any of the
printers attached to the server, and print to their heart's content.
I've upgraded the OS on the server to Ubuntu 12.04LTS desktop 32-bit.
This distro comes with Samba 3.6. The file share is set up

Users in group cannot rename or delete files/folder owned by the group
Hi all,
I am having a very strange issue with Samba, users who are not the owner
of files but are in the same group cannot delete or rename files via
Windows.
For example the user ?sean? in the ?storage.access? group CANNOT delete or
rename a folder called temp via windows but CAN delete or rename via
terminal session.
The folling three folders have the folling permissions:

Unable to find Samba Server, Windows Network
Hi, I am having some problems setting permissions to access a Samba share on
my Windows XP box. So what follows is all the information I thought would be
useful to helping me out.
Firstly, neither box has a firewall running. Both computers are able to ping
each other's IPs. When on my XP box, I go to "Map Network Drive" I am able
to find my Samba computer \\Server in my workgroup

VPN config).
If I do on a win7 PC: net view \\srvlinux

Samba accounts disabled
Hello,
We have been running Samba 2.2.x/Sun ONE LDAP on a particular machine for
about 3 years now and I recently upgraded it to 3.0.14a with ldapsam
compatibility (I can mess with the directory later if necessary).
Now when users try to connect to the server their accounts get disabled
unless I have specifically enabled them using smbpasswd -e username (which
is kind of tough because I have to

2 Servers different gid?
Hi All,
I have 2 servers both running a compiled version of samba and winbind. They
use my Windows Active Directory for user authentication via kerberoes. All
that works fine and I can see and authenticate as any user. Every user on
both machines have the same uid, the problem is the groups from the windows
domain have different gid?s on each of the servers. I am using nfs to export

I am so frustrated - Samba ports not opening and no error message
Okay - I've been plugging away and it got to the point that running
smbclient was returning information about an Alfresco install that I
never used, so I went ahead and deleted everything I could find on my
machine that said "alfresco". I then removed samba using apt-get from
the machine by typing
apt-get remove --purge samba
I deleted the /etc/samba directory and re-installed

Phantom sharename
smbclient reports there is a sharename 'l' that points to
/usr/local/Documents on the host, but there is no reference to it in the
smb.conf file. I have puzzled over this for days - I must have missed
something obvious.
Here is the output from smbclient, followed by the smb.conf file with all
the comments removed.

Cant get authenticated readwrite and guest readonly configured properly
Hi, I've spent the past 4 and a half hours trying to figure out how to
configure Samba the way I want, and I'm starting to wonder if what I
want to do is impossible. I've read the man page for smb.conf trying to
figure out what magic combination of options will work, and have scoured
as much Samba documentation as I can find looking for the right recipe,
but I'm having no luck.

Permissions assignment problem
Hey there,
I am, for the first time, playing around with Samba seriously (mainly
thinking about replacing NFS with it). I'm using a Linux 2.6.x client
with the cifs.ko kernel module/filesystem type.
I've found that I can't change the permissions on files to arbitrary
values; they must not be greater than the bits specified in 'create
mask' (and friends). The problem appears

Issue with reshare shares
Hi there,
we have a customer with some old Windows 98 stuff. The
network has been migrated to a 2008 domain and Windows 98 won't
authenticate (and thus can not access shares, also all computer names
(DC's / fileservers) are longer than 8 characters).
Figured I would
mount the shares on the fileservers on a linux box (ubuntu 10.04 LTS 64
bit server) and then export them again through
