Compilation problem and solution on Solaris 2.7
To whoever it may help,
My flavor of Solaris 2.7 was not able to compile rsync 2.5.5 with the
vanilla "./configure; make".
Three functions where missing : inet_ntop, inet_pton, inet_addr
There are replacement inet_ntop and inet_pton in the distribution tree, so
it's easy to change the Makefile and have them compiled and included by a
simple "make". However, the inet_addr

Cached password updates with Winbind
If a user changes their password and the client looses network
connectivity prior to them logging in again their local/cached password
is not updated; they have to use their old password to authenticate. Is
there a way to change this behavior so that the cached password gets
updated upon a successful password change?
Thx,

Question of the day for SAMBA GURUS!
Hi,
I have a question that I haven't been able to answer from the docs. I
wondered if someone out there has tried to do what I would like to
attempt.
On our server, we have mapped a share called wrkgrps to drive G: Users
then have various directories under drive G: which correspond with their
department, i.e. accounts, personnel, etc. Each of these directories
has a share which I have

Use of S4U2Self in Winbind in a forest trust - obtaining group list
Hi to all,
First of all, let this message serve as an introduction. Nice to be here.
A while back, we updated a server that still had Samba 4.13.17 on Ubuntu 20.04 LTS. We use this server for Winbind authentication in an Active Directory domain, to retrieve the list of groups from Active Directory, and then based on those groups, authorize or deny user access via SFTP with OpenSSH. samba + ldap + pam_mkhomedir ?
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
Hi list,
I'm on the way to implement samba with ldap on five servers (each owns
a different nt-domain) and a master server which maintains the central
user database which gets replicated to all the other servers. Now I
have just one more problem, namely homedirs. I want every user to have
a homedir to store for example his profile. This has to

"test page failed to print" - How to I resolve this?
This is a new one to me... Drivers install fine, but on some of the
printers I get the "test page failed to print" message. I'm getting
nothing in the samba logs from the workstation, smbd, nor from the cups
logs. I've googled myself silly, but can only find other people asking
the same or similar question. Some of them have found permissions to be
the problem, but in

Winbind + NIS + winbind trusted domains
Hello list,
I need to setup a samba file server with user access from a Windows AD
domain and a separate Solaris NIS domain. All of our users have an account
on the AD domain but only some of our users have a Unix account. I would
like Windows users that have a Unix account to have files written as per
their Unix uid and users that do not have an account to have a uid assigned
from winbind.

Logging rsync results using >> not getting all output
I currently use a patched version of rsync 2.6.3 with support hfs+ file
systems. Running on Mac OS 10.4 (Server). It works great but I cant get the
output to work correctly.
This is the command I use in the script:
rsync -av --hfs-mode=appledouble /Volumes/x/x/
root@192.168.1.1:/Volumes/x/x/x/x/ >> $LOGS
This give me output like this:

Inter Domain trusts and BDC
I have a Samba-LDAP PDC at an office and 5 BDC's at other offices. At
corporate HQ I have a W2k Server and domain. I have properly
configured an interdomain trust and Users in the Samba domain can get to
sections on the W2k machine regardless of location. However, members in
the W2K domain can only access shares on the PDC. Attempts to access
shares on a BDC cause a user name

Errors related to Samba in httpd log!
Hello list
First and foremost to any developers listening - thank you for Samba - it
is just brilliant.
Apologies - this is a long post...
I am not getting complaints about logon problems from users but I have
noticed in /var/log/httpd/error_log, entries like the following for a few
users when their logon scripts map drives to shares. Looking back I can
see that it has been
