Lightweight NetBIOS host enumeration in Python
After giving up on trying to slim down smbtree, I've seemingly worked
out enough of the NetBIOS and SMB/CIFS protocols to implement a
bare-bones replacement in Python. At less than 500 lines, it's pretty
easy to follow, though it's very hackish and badly needs a clean
rewrite (which I'm working on now, in C).
In the mean time, if anyone's interested, the Python code's

Samba findsmb and smbtree inconsistent
I have a samba server 3.0.28a set up on ubuntu 8.04, which is accessed by a
windows xp client.
The windows machine can see and download all the shared folders from the
linux machine, and the linux machine can download from the windows machine
with smbclient.
However, when I issue "findsmb" the linux machine only reports itself, not
the windows machine. The man pages show it

Newer SMBTREE versions don't find all systems.
Hi,
Trying the latest version again tonight 4.6.7 it has the same problem
I've seen with the prior newer versions as well. The one I went back
to was 4.4.15 which works. What is happening right now is there is a
Win2K3 box that is the domain server, with thecompanydomain.com
(NetBIOS domain name: COMPANY). That has the __MSBROWSE__ on it. I
have a Linux Wheezy system on that is part of

smbtree command shows nothing with SMB2/3
Hi,
I am using samba 4.5.4 in my fedora machine.
when I execute "smbtree" command it shows nothing with SMB2 protocol.
If I change my client max protocol=NT1 in smb.conf, I can see all server

looks like below bug.
https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=12431
Can it be fixed or someother options can be used for the same to work with
protocol greater than NT1

has 'smbtree -N' been emasculated lately?
I know smbtree -N used to do what I wanted, because I created an alias to it
in ~/.bashrc called netview (based upon 'net view' in OS/2) many moons ago,
when findsmb quit working. Now when I try it in *buntu 16.04 or any recent
openSUSE or Knoppix (e.g. with samba 4.2.4 in OS 13.1 or 42.1), I always get
a null return. nmblookup just produces a usage message, and its man page

Hello Everyone,
I was wondering does anyone know how I can slim down Centos install,
what I mean by slim down is whenever I install Centos with nothing but

This is a server, so I know that bluetooth is not need but I don't have
any other menus to remove software when install from cd. So what would

slim server for moh
Hello,
I have installed SlimServer for Windows on my desktop and Asterisk on a Red Hat Linux machine.
I am able to play mp3's for music on hold when mp3s are on the Linux server, and to play streaming mp3's with Windows Media Player and Winamp on Windows using the slim server.
I also have mpg123 on my Linux, apparently installed correctly, since it works for local moh.
I put the

Odd file locking issue with one of our SMB servers....
Samba version: 3.6.15 on openSUSE 12.2.
We?ve got a series of file shares exported from one of our storage systems. Periodically, we?ve a user from our accounting department that is getting errors from Excel that the file she?s trying to open is opened by someone else (it isn?t) and prompts her to either open it as read-only, or to cancel the open operation. When this occurs, she hits cancel,

[LLVMdev] [PATCH] Slim Reader/Writer Support
This patch seems to have gotten lost in the mix over the past month,
so I am reposting. Apologies if this is incorrect!
This patch includes removes a FIXME for slim reader/writer locks on
Windows Vista and higher, since the functionality is available in the
OS there. It falls back on the heavyweight critical sections
implementation for Windows XP because the reader/writer locks are
unavailable.
