Linux export always RO to PC no matter what
I'm sure this is a question asked many times before, but before I'm flamed, let me state that I've spent TWO WEEKS researching and testing this problem. I've read so many "How To's," forum postings, news groups, and "official docs," I should be an expert on Samba by now. It's obscene. I have an external USB drive - Western Digital 160GB USB 2.0 -

iptables -d fqdn instead of IP
Hi all, does it work to define iptables rules with a fqdn as destination instead of an IP address? Or is it useful to resolve the name first using e.g. nslookup, writing the result to a variable which is then used within the -d statement? Best Regards Marcus

a way to prevent LAN from reaching a list of IP/FQDN
I know that Shorewall is not for content control, but until such day that I get the time to set-up squid, what is the best way to prevent machines on LOC from reaching a bunch of sites contained in a list with about 30 to 40 IP addresses or FQDN entries ? The blacklist look only at the SRC field of the packet, right? Thanks, Costantino. --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!?

xpsp2 clients authenticate, W2ksp4 clients must use IP or FQDN
Hi, I have an interesting issue. I?m running a redhat 9 box with samba 3.0.7, and Kerberos 1.3.1. I?ve joined the machine to the AD2k3 domain, and all the informational commands respond as expected, getent's, wbinfo ?g ?t, and net ads*** and also 'smbclient -k //otherdomainserver/share' works as it should from the server's terminal. when connecting to the server with a windows

Question about how to reduce samba 3.3.3 install size or why it has been increased dramatically from 3.0.34 to 3.3.3
Hello, can anyone give me some tips why the file size of various samba executables has been increased dramatically from 3.0.34 to 3.3.3 (e.g. smbd 3.5MB -> ~7MB) The reason is that it is necessary for our project to keep the size as small as possible. You can have a look into the makefile here:

GPO / Sysvol problems
Hi Gregory, I see few things, start here : from smb.conf remove : map to guest = Bad User This enabled on a domain member or other domain server is really a no go. This makes debugging really hard. interpret_string_addr_internal: getaddrinfo failed for name > freenas.ad.abc.local (flags 1026) [hostname nor servname > provided, or not known] Looks like there are resolving problems.

Hi I have a bunch of FreeNAS servers and a TrueNAS HA server all spamming the logs with these messages every minute about their own source name (examples below). These boxes are on two physically separate networks, and I find it unlikely both networks should have some sort of undetected loop. Any ideas on how to debug this? Samba version is 4.1.18.
