Force user
Hello list The Samba Howto Collection repeatedly asserts that by setting the sticky bit on directories any files created in those directories will be created with the owner set to that of the directory (for example, see http://samba.mirror.ac.uk/samba/docs/man/howto/AccessControls.html#id2541262). This has never worked for me. Files created inherit the group of the directory, but not the owner.

Bit SGID on directories
Hello,   I have a samba server v4.6.5, it’s a member of a Windows 2003 domain.   I setup a share, in this share I want to set sgid bit on directories. I created a directory with SGID bit on the top of the share, but when I create inside new directories didn’t have SGID bits.   Here is my smb.conf :   [global] use sendfile = no gpfs:getrealfilename = no smb ports = 445 139 dos charset =

force group does not work
Hi I set up a samba 4.1.4 server on the latest FreeBSD RELEASE 10. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to consider the option force group. After hours ofresearch I couldn't figure out what I'm still missing. unix extensions is set to no. Setting the debug level up to 10 also didn't help ;( Is this a bug or is there simply a mistake in my setup? When *valid users = @Groupname* is

Removing share from smb.conf
Hello, I notice if I simply comment out a share or remove entirely. I receive errors such as theses. Is there a proper protocol to follow when removing a share? process_usershare_file: stat of /var/lib/samba/usershares/myshare failed. No such file or directory ../source3/param/loadparm.c:4366(process_usershare_file) process_usershare_file: stat of /var/lib/samba/usershares/myshare failed.

problem with created file permissions
After struggling with my smb.conf for a while, I feel I am missing something fundamental about how 'create mask' and 'force create mode' work. I have a dropbox-style share (which is working), which uses 'security = share', and I would like to specify certain permissions on files created in this share. In both of the below examples, files always get created with 744

samba file server - sediskoperatorprivilege not being honored
Hello, I've been setting up new file server using samba 4.8.3 (centos 7 RPM), as samba 4 AD member server using my earlier smb.conf when I realised that I was  previously somewhat circumventing the SeDiskOperatorPrivilege by using "admin users map" to SAMDOM\Domain admins" parameter in smb.conf. I decided to change my smb.conf and setup shares following samba wiki. All

Standalone with Windows ACL
I'm configuring a standalone server(server role = standalone server) using POSIX ACLs to manage permissions on server. I need to manage permissions(At least basic ones, like read, write) from Windows GUI. Is that possible using standalone? When I try setting permissions on Windows I got this on the log: [2017/10/04 19:07:08.437837, 2] ../source3/smbd/posix_acls.c:3006(set_canon_ace_list)

Samba4 bug - "mount error(5): Input/output error"
Hi Rowland, do you maybe have any idea what could potentially cause this bug? smbclient thrwos me back a mount error(5): Input/output error when I try to mount the remote smbFS. It doesn't happen with my MacOSx and Windows 7 as client but it happens with Linux OSs and with a Konica Minolta copy machine with a scanner to samba function. The first try to mount fails with the above error.

"Windows" share issue; access via smb:// fails, "mount -t cifs" works
Hi, Is anyone here using smb:// URLs to access "Windows" shares? I've been doing this for a while with common file systems at work, and it used to work just fine. Then I while back, I started getting issues; I will now just keep getting asked for a password when I try to access something through smb://. I thought at first that this meant there had been some kind of change

Can't use mount command with samba
I have a home network based on Win XP Pro, with one Linux machine running Red Hat 9. All updates have been applied. There's no domain controller. I can connect from the Linux machine to the XP machines via Konqueror using smb://mymachine/myshare However, I can't use the mount command. I'm trying to use syntax like mount -t smbfs -o username=myname, password=mypwd //192.168.0.1

[3.6.6] Possible to allow password-free read/write access?
Hello At home, I use my Windows client host without entering a password, and would like to access a local Linux host likewise, ie. without being prompted for login/password while still having read/write access. Is this possible? Currently, I created no Unix/Samba accounts for the Windows user, and the following smb.conf only works in read-only mode (ie. I get an error when trying to write):

some permissions issues
I?m facing some troubles with file / directory permissions... I log on the domain as admin user(root), and theres a pub share, on witch everyone needs to have permission to create / modify files, but when I change or create a file, only root can change the file, no one else. And then i need to go to server to chgrp users * -R and chown nobody * -R to allow others users to change the file.
