losing access to profile when user becomes domain user instead domain admin
Hi,
I am in the process of migrating our windows workstations to a samba domain.
Here is the problem:
When creating the domain user I put every user additionalyy in the
domain admin group so that he/she can copy his old files on the local
profile to his new domain account.
Then after this is done I put them to the domain users group but some
(!) of the user the lose then access to the

[Solaris 9][ads] net ads testjoin error
Hello folks,
I have been able to successfully compile (MIT) kerberos (1.5.4) and
samba (3.0.28a) on a Solaris 9 (Kernel version: SunOS 5.9 Generic
122300-31 Aug 2008) host.
I was able to successfully join this host to a DEVDOMAIN
This is the smb.conf file that I used:

windows 7 roaming profiles
Hi
Samba4 DC and win 7 clients.
The user profiles are stored in a profiles share:
[profiles]
path = /home/CACTUS/profiles
read only = No
This works OK and the user can logon to different boxes with the same
profile. The profile folders such as Desktop, Downloads etc. however,
also appear stored on the local disk under c:\users\username. Any file
saved e.g. on the Desktop, is not

Unix Attributes in Active Directory Users and Computers (ADUC) tool
I am using a Samba 4.1.16 as an Active Directory domain controller.
After a lot of time complaining to myself that my users' properties
sheet in ADUC did not contain the Unix Attributes tab, it finally
occurred to me that I should look again into Windows 7 >> Control Panel
>> Programs and Features >> Turn Windows Features on and off. Lo and
behold, there it is: under

Cannot join domain: "The user name could not be found"
Hello!
I'm trying to join a Windows XP (64 bit version) machine to a Samba
3.0.21a domain via smbldap-tools 0.9.1 on FreeBSD 6.0-RELEASE-p4 and I'm
continually getting the message "The user name could not be found."
I am attempting to join using members of the Domain Admins group (mapped
to Unix group 515), and I'm noticing in the logs (below) that even
though the machine

Samba ACLs and NFS ACLs:Differing results
I have two users on my network, Mary and Bob, who work together in a
shared share. They both belong to the group Accounting. Bob is a savvy
Linux user who accesses the share via NFS4. Mary toils away using
Windows accessing the share via the Samba server. Mary will create a
directory on the share and dump a number of files in which Bob and Mary
will split the load. Bob, being a LInux user, will

restrict what users can log onto each workstation
I have a Samba server with Windows XP clients, and roaming profiles for
every user. At this moment everyone can log onto any workstation, but it
shouldn't be like that: there are some workstations where anyone can log
into, but three of them should be restricted to some specific users. I
thought about making local users for them, but we need all users to have
roaming profiles, I can't

net group question
I groupapped the domadmins group in linux to ntgroup="Domain Admins" but instead of mapping to the SID number ending in 512 it's creating a new SID number endind in 2025 mapped to domadmins...
Does anybody knows why??? It worked in the previous server.
This is the command I execute
net groupmap add ntgroup="Domain Admins" unixgroup=domadmin
If I use the rid=512 option I

does a pdc need to be in the domain itself?
Hello List,
we have installed samba Version 3.0.20-0.1-SUSE.
when I'm entering
> net getlocalsid
I get
> SID for domain <netbios name> is:
S-1-5-21-4166838278-3756557259-2095403906
entering
> net getlocalsid <domain name>
returns
> SID for domain <domain name> is:
S-1-5-21-2018781741-1218799122-1862565094
Does this mean that the pdc itself is not in the domain

I get
>SID for domain DOMAIN is: S-1-5-21-2018781741-1218799122-1862565094

Samba 3.2.4 not locking accounts?
Hello guys!
I'm using samba 3.2.4 (binaries from samba.org) on SLES9+sp3.
I am building a PDC with LDAP support (i am attaching my config files),
I'm also using ldapsam:trusted and ldapsam:editposix.
Although I am setting the account lock after 3 failed tries in usrmgr,
and verified that the parameters are actually set in the LDAP, no
locking occurs.
I started thinking that it was my

CentOS 5.2 with IBM SERVERAID 6i
I need to install CentOS 5.2 on a IBM Server xSeries 226, which comes
with a IBM SERVERAID 6i RAID card. I think it is not a true hardware
RAID card. I has, nevertheless, an interesting feature: 128MB of cache
with battery backup.
I launched the CentOS boot DVD and CentOS correctly identified the
card and the RAID 5 array as configured by the controller's BIOS.
My question now is:

Win7 to Samba Domain Printing Strangeness
Hi,
I have a server which until recently was serving a domain of about 20 XP
PCs in a school. Over the summer I updated Samba to 3.5.4-0.70, and
replaced the desktops with new machines which are running Win7 Pro 64 bit
SP1.
This being a school, I have a system of mandatory group profiles set up,
and all of the pupil groups curently have copies of the same mandatory
profile (generated via the

Hi there ...
I have a problem with my tdb-database after I've migrated from Debian-Samba-3.2.5-4lenny6 to Samba-3.2.5-4lenny7.
All the old directories /etc/samba with the smb.conf and /var/lib/samba with the tdb-database has been hold.
Now I've inexplicable effects with my tdb-database.

LDAP Examples
I'm struggling with trying to create a unified, ldap-backed for my
home network. I have an existing directory that handles my posix
logins correctly and I'm able to auth smb users against those
accounts, but I'm not able to join any machines to the directory. It
would be profoundly helpful to see a ldif dump of a working
configuration. Surely others have created similar setups at home
